Hot Hot Heat for $2? They're not that mainstream, and neither was that song, IIRC..
Should be $0.99, IMO..

Sorrow was awesome. I never got a chance to play it on drums though, because I was rocking the crap out of the mic on it.

9 Songs this week!!!!
It amazes me how many songs are already available. Yet each week you get atleast 3 more... I was a Guitar Hero guy at first. But IMO GH3 really disappointed me. Yeah the battle mode was cool & different. But the lack of additional songs was a let down. And then when they did put out downloads, you had to buy the entire pack.

Rock Band receives new DLC, but no Offspring?
It's Rock Band DLC Tuesday today, and that means all the new musical DLC that was announced last Friday releases today. Or so that's how it usually goes, today is the exception though, because the Offspring tracks have gone missing.
For whatever reason, only six of the promised nine Rock Band DLC tracks are available for purchase off the XBLM. The six tracks from bands including Against Me!, Free, George Thorogood, Harvey Danger, Screaming Trees and Static-X are all available, but the highly anticipated Offspring three pack is nowhere to be found. And we aren't exactly sure why they aren't available, because both Major Nelson and Harmonix are nowhere to be found. Let's just hope that there's a bug in the system and all nine tracks release later today, because denying us our Offspring is NOT a way to make friends.
Today's Rock Band DLC
Individual Tracks - 160
"Stop!" by Against Me!
"All Right Now" by Free
"Bad to the Bone" by George Thorogood
"Cream & Bastards Rise" by Harvey Danger
"Nearly Lost You" by Screaming Trees
"Push It" by Static-X

That figures. I was looking forward to some Offspring. I have the PS3 so I guess I would have to wait a couple of days, anyway. Hopefully they will be available soon.

The general consensus is the week GHWT comes out so Harmonix takes away some of the glory from GHWT and generates buzz for RB2.

I think I have a total of 150 or so songs so far.
55 or w/e the count is from RB1 - Exported to RB2
53 Songs for RB2 - Still think I have to unlock a couple more.
49 DLC - So far I have downloaded. I still have a bunch more points & will dl more tonight.
My biggest complaint with Rock Band is the Drums. I already went through 1 set.. My 2nd set is really acting up now.
I am hoping the RB2 Drums are better quality.

Rock Band receives new DLC, but no Offspring?
Odd. I noticed last night that there's an Offspring Battle of the Bands contest up. You need "Gone Away" to participate.
Hopefully it's just a glitch.

Dave Grohl is the only good thing to take from Nirvana's existence, really. Cobain was never and will never be a musical genius.

Really? It always looked to me that the newly acquired celebrity status became a burden for Cobain.
They were no musical prodigys, but Blink 182?? Gimme a break, goddamned flavor-of the month "Punk" "Rockers" :vomit: At least Britney is honest about her blatant comercialism.

I think he reveled in it just as much as he burdened the load. I dunno.. he's just always portrayed as this musical genius and I just don't feel that way.
Heh, I never did say that Blink were any kind of musical visionaries either :-p but that song is just a relic of my childhood and it's upbeat and fun as hell to play, so I'm looking forward to it. :)

Did you find your redemption code on the back of the manual (hint: it's that wad of paper they include with video games)? Did you send off the relevant form and confirm your e-mail address? Well, then you should be receiving the download code for your 20 free Rock Band 2 tracks soon ... ish!
According to Harmonix, the codes will be rolled out over a period of 24 hours, a measure implemented due to the volume of numbers and letters that have to be squeezed through the company's e-pipe. E-mails to PlayStation 3 owners of the game will be sent "later in the week." Whether or not you actually have any, know that Harmonix preemptively appreciates your patience.

Funny that you mention it, but that specific trick called injection attack does not really apply to MySQL.
Though in that illustration, that is possibly the worst possible situation, no backups, no sql sterilization, and a social hack that is extremely transparent.

Lol... yeah, it does. Of course, most people use mysql_real_escape_string() in a LAMP environment, but it can still occur quite easily.
Either way, I love that comic, partly because of how ridiculous the name is, and partly because of how easily the mom writes it off, "Oh yes, we call him little Bobby tables!"

The pack was never actually ready to be released despite the post.
This has been a mess since early Tuesday morning, when Harmonix assured everyone that they would have their codes before the end of the day. They (much) later changed it to "codes will be rolled out over a period of 24 hours" in order to buy themselves more time. A bit after the 24 hours had passed and no one had received his/her code yet, they issued another statement in which they admitted that there would be a delay.

I thought that MySQL wouldn't take multiple SQL statements in a single line with it.
Anyhow, I do admit that after having done some research, the standard method of SQL injection stated within does apply. So I withdraw my statement.

For those that aren't aware, No Doubt has said on their website that their 13 song track pack will be available on December 9th.Apparently No Doubt released the track names on their website but took it down sometime after that.
No tracks revealed, but The Singles Collection 1992–2003 contained the following 15 tracks:
1. “Just a Girl” Gwen Stefani, Tony Kanal 3:25
2. “It’s My Life” Mark Hollis, T. Friese-Greene 3:45
3. “Hey Baby” G. Stefani, Kanal, Tom Dumont, R. Price 3:26
4. “Bathwater” G. Stefani, Kanal, Dumont 4:00
5. “Sunday Morning” Kanal, G. Stefani, Eric Stefani 4:31
6. “Hella Good” G. Stefani, P. Williams, Chad Hugo, Kanal 4:02
7. “New” G. Stefani, Dumont 4:24
8. “Underneath It All” G. Stefani, Dave Stewart 5:02
9. “Excuse Me Mr.” G. Stefani, Dumont 3:04
10. “Running” G. Stefani, Kanal 4:00
11. “Spiderwebs” G. Stefani, Kanal 4:26
12. “Simple Kind of Life” G. Stefani 4:15
13. “Don’t Speak” E. Stefani, G. Stefani 4:22
14. “Ex-Girlfriend” G. Stefani, Dumont, Kanal 3:31
15. “Trapped in a Box” E. Stefani, Dumont, G. Stefani, Kanal 3:23
Only 13 of these tracks will be released, so one will be omitted. The most likely seems to be “Trapped in a Box”, for it was an unreleased song up until the collection. I don’t know about the other omitted song.

I'm not certain from where that quote came, but "Trapped In A Box" was on their first album. It's one of only two or three that I plan to purchase, so I'm going to be very disappointed if it doesn't make the cut.

Here was my source Link. (http://www.rbdlc.com/news/?p=253) Up to you whether you want to believe it or not, as its not the most credible one out there, in my opinion.
Here (http://www.nodoubt.com/news/default.aspx?nid=18376) is a link to No Doubt's website confirming the release date, but only saying "The Singles Collection" of 13 tracks will be released, with no specific track names

Where did that come from? Was it in an early Guitar Hero game or something? Or just a random thought?
Regardless, I'd love to have that song added to the list as well. I think that I first heard it in Empire Records and loved it.
Anyway, I'll probably purchase the Rancid pack. I haven't listened to them in a long while, but I used to during junior high/high school, so it's nice to see them make an appearance. It would be awesome if they could get some Op. Ivy at some point as well (never going to happen, I know).

Just a random track that I'd really love to see because it is so good and would also play really well in GH/RB. If I were a better musician, I'd certainly cover this song. For some reason this song just really does it for me on many different levels.
I actually don't even have many tracks that I REALLY want aside from Pink Floyd, but for some reason I feel that this track is a must and needs to be in there.

I think he was pointing out that Bush doesn't have a DLC pack, and that Gavin is a doucher for not releasing their music rights to the gaming companies to release songs.
Although I'm pretty sure Gavin doesn't dictate that -- but the record label who owns the music does. And yeah, Glycerine, Chemicals between us, everything zen, machinehead, little things... lots of good songs that need to be released.

And while we're discussing '90s music, how about some Third Eye Blind? They've also got a new album about to come out. It would probably be hard finding someone to sing most of their songs though.

I'm not really digging on the GH5 list, the songs I once was excited to play on that list has came to RB as DLC. With the announcement and planned deployment of RBNetwork, I don't see myself returning to the GH series unless it has a lot of spectacular songs that probably will never touch RB.

GH5 has a couple of alright songs. But none really impress me that much. RB is still the king IMO because you can import RB1 songs to RB2 & have a ton of songs on one game. I hope they continue to do that.

Just checked out a YouTube sightread.. looks like fun! The bass is the exact same through the verses, and only changes a little bit during the chorus, and it feels natural. What do you think?

Nah.. most of the times when I play DLC it's on my friend's system. I don't have near as much as he does, but then again, 99% of the time we get together it's on his system, so it doesn't matter that much.
I don't play at home a ton because my drums are messed up. I'm probably going to hold out to see if I can grab the beatles game + set as an xmas present :D. Will be the first time in YEARS I've wanted a "toy" for xmas from my parents.

It's almost like Gears of War 2 where they put a code in the new package that allowed you to download the Flashback Map pack for free but if you got it used(typically) the code was already used or gone.

This is not new with the Rock Band series, they knew what happened with the RB1 game and how people just rented the game paid a few bucks and brought them into the RB2 setlist. When RB AC/DC came out there was a one time code that allowed for importing the tracks into the RB2 setlist.
I am not against the idea that the RB Lego disk is made for people that just want to have fun because not everyone is out there to become an expert at plastic music. But the idea of making you pay full price plus an import price to have them all in one game is a bit much IMO. Maybe these songs will be released as DLC at a lated date for the RB2 setlist without having to buy the disk but I wont hold my breath.
I guess I have gotten to the point that I have so much music that buying a few DLC tracks a month is keeping the RB2 setlist fresh for me. And by the looks of things it is only going to get better because of the new format they are moving to with the music companies releasing tracks. Then again there is a Queen pack hitting the DLC list soon...what more could I ask for? hmmm maybe being able to import the Beatles tracks...not going to happen :)

Yeah, that's what I'm against - having to pay retail and THEN paying another $10 on top of it. If it's a one time use code, it should be free to export those tracks once, plain and simple. Otherwise, save yourself the $10 and just switch discs as necessary.
I think it should all be available as DLC as well. They actually make more money from it that way anyway.

10-13-2009, 01:08 PM
Keep in mind everything can change at a drop of a dime when it comes to HMX, if they see a demand for the songs but a lack of intrest in purchasing the disk I am sure the songs would end up being DLC. But then again they never released the AC/DC tracks as DLC and I am sure that there is a demand for those tracks. I have a feeling that this disk will be the on dogger they make that goes straight to the discount bin at Walmart.

Yeah. I'm not quite sure what the deal is. They're obviously seeing dollar signs by making it only available to people who purchase the game new. It's quite sad. Basically they want you to pay 70 dollars to be able to use the Rock Band Lego songs in Rock Band 2.

I'm trying to either justify the purchase myself, or use one of my old sets to mod mesh heads.
And to each his own, but to me, the dedicated, staggered cymbal placement is absolute trash. I play on expert and the fairly common snare-tom-tom-floor rolls are impossible (awkward or unnatural, at best) to replicate with GH's set.

I won't pretend to be very good. I think I've beaten one song on expert (and that might have been on Rock Band ).
The GH one is just better built: drum heads are better, it actually recognizes 16th notes and I like having the cymbals.

The placement is awkward from a drummers perspective. I've only played on 1 GH kit but my experience is the opposite, I felt like it was dropping a lot of notes.

RB pads recognize 16th notes. I do like the build quality of the GH:WT set, but that placement absolutely kills it... it's completely wrong.
I even wrote up a whole thread about it: http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=973621

On a tangent, I finally picked up another RB drum kit. :whee:
I got a brand new but open box RB2 kit for $30. Hopefully it works. However, timing is pretty poor since I doubt I'll be playing it since I still want more UC2 time and Borderlands released today. Not to mention, I've been SWAMPED at work lately. :juggle:

It's been a clusterfark in the making.
I built a MIDI switch to play RB with my Roland TD-9S and then I moved.
After I unpacked:
Prob1) Found out that for some reason, MIDI box wouldn't accept kick pedal inputs anymore. No prob, I'd just use the stock RB pedal even though it sucks.
Prob2) Pedal broke
Prob3) Tried to troubleshoot the MIDI box, fail
Prob4) Bought new pedal, blue pad died after half a song
Prob5) Sitting on fence between new RB2 kit or another MIDI box
I just found a guy on ebay that was local who had bought a bunch of wholesale RB stuff and was selling it off.

I did the megapedal mod (one of the first few mods made for RB) and I love that freakin thing. There's no way it's ever going to break, and the added weight helps IMO.

Well my RB1 pedal held up for a decent while for me so hopefully a RB2 pedal + my spare pedal will work for a while.
I'm gonna be terrible for a while though because timing on the RB pedal and when I used a real pedal on my TD-9S is different since I had to adjust for the actual swinging of the beater on the real pedal.

I hear you there... when I play my real drums for awhile and then go to play some RB, I'm MONUMENTALLY better, not only because the pedal is so much easier but also because the power needed for rolls on RB pads is minuscule compared to rolls on real drums/cymbals (especially the cymbals).

You mean the window to hit notes is smaller? If I hit a note, I expect it to register.. and the GH set just plain doesn't, sometime. Inexplicable parts, too.
And I agree, RB2/cymbals >>>>> GHWT > RB1 only because of the pad material.

Yeah, a lot of the younger kids playing this probably never would have heard a lot of the songs otherwise. One of my daughter's friends was over, playing "Today", and I said I remembered buying that album when it came out.
She said "I thought you only listened to 70s music"

There's also a guy around my age that didn't start listening to classic rock until he played Guitar Hero II.

I have no clue how GH:WT gets away w/adding so many notes and missing so many key beats....
I know RB does (they both *have* to)... but at least it fits w/the song and makes sense... GH:WT is such a PoS when it comes to drumming.
I wonder if it is because of the fact that they were the first guitar game. W/guitar, nothing makes sense compared to the actual song, because it can't, due to the limitations of the instrument. I think that maybe when they went to drums, they just went in w/the same philosophy, whereas RB was a *band* game to begin with, and they actually took time to make it as real as possible.
