If you need help on buying a New Honda or any Used Vehicle...Let me know.

Ill take a look at what you are being offered (Or told anyway) and make sure everything is on the up and up...and help you verify that it actually is a Good "Deal"!

I have access to Vehicle Availability Nationwide (For Honda's) and am pretty well versed in the Finance / Leaseing side of things....plus I usually know well ahead of time (a week or so) when new Rates are coming up as well as time frames for New model releases.

So if you need help locating a Certain Vehicle or advice on whether the price you are quoted is legit....let me know!

Instead of comparing car price, get them to give you an actual drive-out and compare that with your local dealers.

Anybody can quote a low car price to get you in the door, and slap on the dealerfees etc...once it comes time to sign.

Let me know what they tell you!

I'm in SoCal. Been looking at a few, ranging from $25k - $40k. Current Manheim seems to be between $24k and $29k for the different model years.

Sounds About right for your area....from what I can see. (Manheim Wise)

You may want to look Nation wide though...and have something transported.

I do it all the time for customers from Oregon to Maine....and usually transport costs are around 500 to 900 bucks at most....at least from us to their door.

Thanks bud. I'd need enclosed transport by either Intercity or DAS (had a terrible experience five years ago...avoid A1 Auto Transport), and it'll be about double that for coast to coast, from what I can remember. I'm also not big on buying cars sight unseen...the only car I bought sight unseen was my Bentley, and I got much too good of a deal to pass up on it at the time (it was an auction car out of Florida, required $6,000 repair for emissions immediately, finally settled with VW over the cost, my friend is currently driving it before she gets her E92 M3).

Its funny you say that about A1 - the only time I have ever had an issue was WITH THEM.

And I fully understand that about the Sight un Seen....really only works well for Brand Spankin new or High End like the Bentley.

Truth. I farking hate those guys :P. So now, I only ship with IC or DAS, and only enclosed on the top level.

I'm OK with my Range Rover, but thanks ;). Let me know if you do get an 05+ S2000 in blue or red. CPO would be highly preferred, and if you can stay under 20k, you probably have a deal. I'm looking to replace my Z4 with either a S2000 or a Z3 M Roadster (01/02 with S54 only).

Actually, if you don't mind, will you run a Manheim on those cars for me? Much appreciated.

Of course there are Lease Specials on the 08 S2k's right now that are stooopid.
(Sold a Black one yesterday...0 down and he was at 432-442 per month on a 3 year 12k Mile per year lease (Tier 1 Credit of Course)

I have an 04 S2k in the Silver for 19,996.00 Certified Used....with 51k miles...and right now certified have apr rates at 3.9% for 36 and 4.9% up to 60 Months....so no red or blue...but with the 04 you have that extra redline RPM though!

Colors on the Z4??

Ill keep on the lookout for a "Slick Deal" for u!

Chris

Thanks Chris. I'd do red or blue on the S2000, maybe black. But definitely nothing else. My Z4 is black, but the Z3 M roadster I'd want would be either the estoril blue or the imola red, with matching two-tone interior. The M must have heated seats and power top.

I refuse to buy (or lease) new. And I want 05+ S2000 due to the traction control. Can you pull the Manheims on the cars for me? 05/06 S2000 and 01/02 M Roadster.

Also, would you be able to help me out on CarFax? Feel free to PM :).

Thanks!

I can help with making sure the Prices you are getting are "deals", i just cant help you with inventory on Used....so if you find a car you like, and want to make sure the deal is on the up and up, let me know and we will make sure together.

Keep in mind, thorugh the 31st of January, there are Certified Used Special APR Rates from Honda at 3.9% up to 36 Months and 4.9% up to 60 for Super Preferred credit.(Tier 1)

Just let me know what I can do!

The best thing I can do for you is tell you what we are selling one for and you can use that as a benchmark for pricing...so I will PM you with the specifics.

I'm looking around here in the Bay Area (CA) and trying to find the following CRV
2008 Honda CR-V 4WD EX Automatic Transmission
Exterior Color: Nighthawk Black Pearl
Interior Color: Black Fabric
Accessories: Roof Rack, TRAILER HITCH HARNESS, Trailer Hitch, Cargo
Net, Cargo Tray, Cargo-Area Cover, Fog Lights, All-Season Floor Mats

Out the door price I was quoted was $25,976. Does that sound good or should I wait for President's day sales?

Thanks

I bought a 2008 Honda Civic Si Sedan (special order since none were on the lot) for $495 over invoice (I think it ended up being around $20,700)......I put $4k down & my payments are $358 a month for 5 years (although i went through honda finance & will pay it off sooner). Interest rate they offered was a 6.25%F

did i do alright?

And thanks for the Thumbs Up....

If it was not for the Way the Gunn Autogroup sells cars, I deffinately would not be selling cars....and words like that keep us going thats for sure.

Its a Beautiful thing when you can get a good deal, and know that its a good deal, without spending hours haggling back and forth just to get to the bottom line.

And when it comes to you Being in New Orleans (I grew up in Shreveport, 3 Years in Baton Rouge, One year in NOLA) you could always shop us and we can usually ship nationwide for around 700.00

Even a Plane ticket (300.00 at most) from there to here might be worth it....great time to drive it back home and break her in!

Thanks for the info. Yes coupes are hard to come by. Is Honda purposely not distributing them to increase the supply/demand while marketing like crazy? Also, there seems to be a lot of internet complaints with the VCM issue causing vibration while on highway. Could this be a reason Honda is not releasing the coupes?

When it comes to numbers being released, they are building them as fast as they can, but like the fit, for the first year or so they will be harder to come by....although they will keep the production limited well under what the sedans are.

For the VCM, I am an internet junkie, and of all the websites I am on and sponsor, that complaint is one of the least....and I really think those who are speaking about it are over-exagerating - just like people have been about road noise for years.

(Edited) On the prices I send, they are the prices of cars WE are selling...and it doesnt mean every dealer out there can or would be able to do better, and it also doesnt mean they could not.

All you can do is use what I provide as a benchmark in your negotiations, unless someone is actually buying from me.

For used cars....that is a little harder to go by, because Used Pricing is relative to the car/location / condition / day of the week...lol.....etc...

Best thing you could do is use autotrader as a guide to see what the average prices are for those in your area, then try to negotiate a little below that point!

The prices paid forums there can be helpfull, but honestly, and many people who have actually purchased will tell you, a lot of what you see on there is BS>

I know what national pricing is everyday....and sometimes I see things on those forums (Especially for the Accords) that even I dont believe....and many times all of a persons deal is not disclosed (like trades / money down / etc...)

So they can be a good resource, but deffinately dont believe everything you see.

Plus they dont let dealers like my self go on there and challege anything we may see that looks off....which kinda makes me wonder what good those forums are as well.

it wants it to be consumer-oriented. if you have dealers going in and posting, then you have a conflict of interests. it becomes hard to see who to believe. as consumers, we want the lowest price possible and car dealers want as high of a price and profits as they can squeeze.

i find the thread pretty believable for the most part and gives ppl a good idea, other than some dude going in there trashing the prices (dealers posing as consumers? ). it's just that negotiating the prices with dealers is very very frustrating.

having a dealer like you here telling us the price range gives us another perspective.

Thats why Im here....to at least give a third party look at things....and since most everyone here could never actually purchase from me because of distance or whatever, at least I can give advice on what I see in actual pricing day by day...

Just happy to be here!

I want to buy an 08 Accord Sedan V6 EX-L no nav, zip 27613. Edmunds shows invoice 25,416 + 635 destination fee. After test drive at a dealer, I offered 26K OTD, they didn't take it. I'm requesting email quotes from a few dealers probably will get some soon. I'd appreciate a PM what would be a good price in my zip before tax & title.

As Chris said, it depends on model/trim and tax rates.

I finally accept an offer (from dealer's web department, see post #70) to drive off tomorrow. $27,210 OTD (all fees, tag and tax included, NC tax is 3%) for an 08 Accord 4dr EX-L V6 no nav with a trunk tray. I know that I didn't get the bottom price but didn't sense any other dealers in town want to make a deal. Paying MSRP OTD in this case, i.e. $28,695 destination charge included would have been crummy.

How much would I overpay Chris?

I need to know the following to answer honestly:

1. What kind of credit do you have....Tier 1 = Great to Tier4 = Horrible

2. Where are you located?

3. What is the actual Bottom Line price....the financed amount....and if you put anything down or had a trade....

Then I can tell you if it is a good deal or not!

I was talking about Civic, Fit and Accord models. Another thing I learned from some dealership were, if they have a big nice location then get really to pay more. It'll be hard to talk deals with the salesmen. I can't say for all but most in the East Bay, CA. You can low ball the salesmen as much as your want. But in the end if they can't profit to cover the employees salary, rent and etc fees they will not sell you the car.

It may work that way out in Cali, but here its a whole different world, especially where I work.

We have an 18 Acre Lot, you can see pics of it on my blog (cbondhonda.com/blog) that is only 3 years old....(we were in a location for 15 Years that was much smaller) and that has nothing to do with the way we price our cars.

We sell volume........and from what our customers tell us we are REALLY competitive to any other dealers in the state, not just our city.

Plus, since I work in an Employee Owned One-Price Store....I have no control over pricing anyway, but I never have to 'Defend" the price we are selling any vehicle for.

It boils down to how the dealership operates....you cant work on both Gross and Volume....you have to go with one or the other....and granted there are some cars that have bigger discounts than others, but thats usually because there is more room to work with on them than others.

(Example: the Honda Fit has VERY LITTLE wiggle room, whereas a Pilot or Ridgeline has a good bit)

Sometimes one vehicle will be sold at a heavy discount, but is made up for by another vehicle with very little of one...its a balancing act.

So all in all, when it comes to shopping, you cant just go by price, you have to shop dealerships and the way they do business as well...to get not just the best deal, but the best overall buying experience as well.

The way I look at it is this:

You can sell anyone one car, but it takes the whole organization to sell the 2nd, 3rd, 4th car and so on....that includes the Service Department, the Sales People, the Management, the Owner, everybody....and thats how I know I as well as the dealership I work for, did a good job....when that person comes back to me, without any hesitation, to purchase again and again, as well as send everyone they know to me to at least give me the first chance to help them buy the car they may be looking for.

That sounds about right, especially for Cali.

You may want to check the Prices-Paid Forums on Edmunds to get a little more specific on what dealers and where have the better deals for Cali...but that does sound about right.

It has 13,677 miles on it and it is showroom clean.

They are extending the warranty by 12 months and 12,000 miles.

The TTL total works out to $28,950 OTD at showroom.

I am thinking of trading in my 2006 Honda Oddesy which is appraised at 21,000

Im also thinking about getting either a 2007 used or a 2008 new for either 21,200 or 25,755 respectively. The used car has about 12k miles on it and runs just as good as the new one, just the new one has about 2-3 inches more headroom and im not a small guy (6'1 and a sophmore in high school) which is the best way to go? I would mainly be using the car to drive to and from school and would be sharing it with my mom. Also, do you think these are a good deal for cars with leather, and come fully loaded?

hi, thanks for doing this :D

I'm looking into the Honda Fit (Sport, Auto), and I've been quoted $16,500 (incls. destination charge), but there was a $299 doc. fee, and so to add tax (7% and $36 local tax), and T/T ($40) so that would equal $18,030, which is a little pricey considering i've seen ppl OTD for anywhere from 500 to 1,000 less on the fit forum? I'm not picky on color, and I am in no rush (might even wait until 2009 model).

I know the asking price ends up being right around MSRP, should I try to negotiate (a nearby place had it for 16,422 - incls. dest. charge-, but I don't know what their add'l fees are but they added a few extras for free) and try to get them to lower it and also drop the doc fees (hoping for 17,400-17,600 OTD). Is this too much?

(took out my financial stuff) if you need to know it to help me, please PM. thanks

p.s. I am in the nashville area, with about 5 dealership within 40 minutes, although I talked to one today and he said that they didn't have any sport fit auto in stock as of then, but I went online, and saw several of the other ones with quite a few in stock...

Hey... ok, soo... My girlfriend is looking for a car. Have been checking out things on Edmunds.com and such, here is the car we just test drove.

2002 Honda Civic - EX - 5 Speed (no spoiler) maroon red.
- 62K miles

He listed it for $11K on craigslist... I checked out Edmunds.com and it said $8500 TMV. Seems like the lowest he is willing to go is $9250. Only thing I don't like is there is a decent size dent near the passenger side rear wheel (about the size of a cd). There are also quite a few scratches/ paint chips. Mechanically it seemed alright even though the car had never had anything replaced.

What do you think? Thanks!

Considering the fact that if you were here in Texas, I could sell you a 2005 Honda Certified Civic for 11,500.00 - doesnt seem too good to me.

My market may be a little different than yours though...

Anyway, I recently bought a 2008 Honda Accord EX-L V6 Coupe in Belize Blue, and was wondering if you'd give me your quick thoughts on it.

Financed: $14,750
Cash down: $8000
Trade: 2003 Ford Focus SE 32k Auto/Power Mirrors/CD player were the only options I believe. Edmunds lists the trade-in value of that car (TMV) at $5,405, KBB is less.

Add that all up and it comes to $28,155 with TTL.

It can be helpfull....from a buyer perspective, but keep in mind Edmunds Forums are often tainted with Dealers posing as Shoppers and people not quoting realistic prices....

At least here I can be unbiased....and provide real numbers to use as benchmarks.

Chris - I've seen you on TOV too, you sure do get around!:lmao:

Anyway, I recently bought a 2008 Honda Accord EX-L V6 Coupe in Belize Blue, and was wondering if you'd give me your quick thoughts on it.

Financed: $14,750
Cash down: $8000
Trade: 2003 Ford Focus SE 32k Auto/Power Mirrors/CD player were the only options I believe. Edmunds lists the trade-in value of that car (TMV) at $5,405, KBB is less.

Add that all up and it comes to $28,155 with TTL.

NYS Sales tax in my county is 8%

Dont think I could have done much if any better.....Id say that would be classified as a Good Buy!!!

As I have told many on here before....there are certain things I can and cant post on here per guidelines I am required to follow....so believe in the fact that any time I can post actual Pricing publically...I will!

And on those APR Specials....that is an either / or type of deal ....you cant combine that along with the incentives....that wasnt clearly notated....although there are some finance incentives that can be combined with it!

Hello,
I'm currently trying to lease a Pilot VP AWD. I'm trading in a 95 Saab that has a $650 trade-in value and the dealer gave me the following quote:

36 month 12,000 mile lease for $277.46/month and all I have to do is trade in the Saab and give them a $1000 which includes Tax/Tag/Title and 1st payment!

Now what should I be watching out for when I sign the contracts?

One thing that worried me is that right before I left last night, the dealer said that I had a 670 credit score and isn't sure Honda will agree to the terms above. This sounded strange to me, so I bought a credit report from Experian as soon as I got home and found out that my score was 770 ! I then checked to see the last inquiries on my credit and sure enough, the dealer was listed in there, which shows me that he was lying about my score! Should I expect them to tell me when I go in to sign the papers tomorrow: "Sir, Honda couldn't give you the super duper prime rate we quoted you because your credit sucks, so your monthly payment will be $350" ? If so, what should I do?

Thanks,
CABNY

The score we see and the score you see are usually completely different.

I checked mine not long ago when I bought my 08 EX Accord...and my number through Privacy Assist was 70 Points HIGHER than what we saw when we pulled it here in House...but that is a pretty big difference in your case (Was it transunion by the way?)

Other than that, it sounds like a pretty good deal....looks like he is using the Lease Special....and Honda is very particular on that ....plus dealers cant play games with you on it....so chances are whatever he is saying is true....just ask to see the paperwork that shows you waht they see as your score...through Transunion.

Yup I got the civic lx at 18,800 with tint and splash guard OTD at the end, they wouldn't budge anymore and I started to feel bad so I gave in. They showed me the invoice at 17600 including destination charge so it's still below invoice, and I'm happy with it.

If you able to get the car for MSRP price OTD (out the door, includes tax, delivery charge, etc fees) is a good deal. I'm not say last year model, current year or later.

Depends on the car. A kia at MSRP OTD isnt a big thing, but the new m3's MSRP OTD is the slickest thing possible. (Damn things have a 25k dealer markup)

Hi Chris,
Been working prices on the Tourings (no PAX) pretty hard throughout Houston, Gulf Coast, Hill Country area. Seems to me a good number would be close to $34K + TTL. Have you seen the Tourings sell for less than $34K? If so, what do you feel is a stellar price below $34K? I'm more than happy to keep working the numbers until they :compunch: but will stop if Im trying to get blood from a turnip. Thanks!

How about this one (Minnesota-Wisconsin area)

After some negotiations, I am thinking of buying the 2008 Honda CRV EX AWD for 22941 (all dealer fees are included which is 50 for paperwork and a mandated 20 dollar city fee). The invoice is at 23091.71

A cheaper one exists at 22741(again all fees included) but is about 250 miles away so it is kind of a hassle to drive and back. Plus with the gas (and food darn it, cant pass up on IHOP or Denny's), I will save little money from driving that distance.

Let me know

Thanx

On an unrelated question, when is Honda Stream coming to US if you know it I would appriciate it.

Hi Chris,
My dh drives 60 miles one way to work each day. We have been looking at used Honda Civics for his back and forth to work vehicle.
He had a 1994 Geo Metro that finally pooped out. Anyway, of course, we want something that gets good MPG.
We have found a 2005 Honda DX Value Package car, 1 owner that we are considering. Do you think this is a goo deal?
70,000 miles
automatic
a/c
new tires last week
asking price $7900

If I used kbb correctly it showed the following:
fair $8390
good $9430
excellent $10,220

I know the DX model doesn't have all the "extras". We don't really need them. We just need a dependable car with good MPG.

I just wondered if there is anything we should know about this 2005 model going into the deal?

Thanks for any input!!

Hello CB!

My Girlfriend is looking for a new car (to replace the 2002 used Lemon VW Jetta she currently is blazing $$$ into) I want to help her as much as possible get a fair shake, but my knowledge is not at the level of someone like you. We live in Metuchen, NJ (Central NJ).

I convinced her the best bang for her buck is a Honda Civic (automatic) for the price & logevity of the make & model. Whether it's a late model 2007 or a new 2008, it would be a car she could afford the financed monthly payments on w/ a small teacher's salary.

She isn't interested in many of the add-on bells & whistles, other than power windows, CD, 4 door, etc... I wanted to reach out to you for a recommendation of what she should get. She was looking to keep it under $20k OTD and could put down as much as $3-$4k if it made sense to minimize the monthly pmts. Looking to finance vs Lease due to her commute and she will eclipse the usual lease limit of 12k miles/yr. (add on miles probably don't make sense, since she is looking for a 5+ yr owned car)

Appreciate any insight you could provide....thanks again.

Got a question for ya. I got an '06 Trailblazer SS. I leased it, 15k per year for miles. Located in NJ. After getting the truck, lost my job, now the new job, I travel a lot for work using my truck. I will be over miles wise, by next year with one more year to go probably..

So I was looking at a couple of options, wait until the third year of the lease with one remaining and finance the car out, basically the buyout and remaining lease. Another option or last resort is suck it up and pay the overage per mile, which is like 20 cents and will be like 20k over. Third, do dealers still take back cars if you are brand loyal, i know in the past, I had it happen.

Let me know your thoughts..

Great post. I was considering a very similar option and would like to hear CB's response.

When it comes to the Questions at hand (in response to Snuggs)

1. The Honda Civic in a Certified Pre-Owned would be your best abng for the Buck

Honda Certified Used come with powertrain Coverage out to 7 years and 100k Miles....as well as an Additional 1 year / 12k Miles added to the Limited Warranty....so locating an 06 / 07 / 08 CPO (Certified Pre Owned) would be the same advice I would give to anyone sitting in front of me if they wanted the Most Car / Warranty / best Payment for the money they were spending.

2. The way Honda Packages their cars is great....most things like Power Windows / Lock / Mirrors, Airbags, Drivetrain is all standard from the LX model up. Things like a Sunroof, alloy wheels, Steering Audio Controls, Leather....are what is added in higher models.....so she should be good with an LX Model Civic.

3. Car Math is simple....every 5k she Finances is going to be somewhere around 100.00 a Month....so if she wants to stay around 300.00 month over 60 months, then she needs to FINANCE about 15k. The rate will depend on credit of course, but from Tier1 (Best) to Tier 3(close to worst) she should be looking at Low 5's to high 12's in rates. Every point of Interest Adds about 8 Bucks per month to the Payment.

Example:
15k Financed = 250.00 / Month(15k devided by 60)...not counting Interest..... + 7% Rate (56.00 / Month Added To payment) .....250 + 56 = 306.00 Per month!
(See how easy that works itself out!!!)

4. Leasing works best if Credit Is great..and driving milage will be low....so if you think hers is, let me know and Ill go into detail on that!

As a pricing example, I have some CPO Civics ranging in 06 to 07 models of the LX trim priced at 14,991.00 (06 LX Sedan with 40k Miles) to 16,995 (07 LX Sedan with 19k Miles)

I even have a CPO 2dr 07 EX Navi for 19,400.00 with only 18k Miles!!

So use those numbers as Price Comps for your area....unless you are close to Texas and Ill just sell you one myself!

Let me know what else you need!

This has to be coming from someone who just read some paid-for reviews in magazines and has not actually driven any of the 3.

Personal Experience beats what you read on print hands down everytime....and anyone that has actually driven the Malibu and Compared it to the accord would be the first to tell you there is no comparison.

(And buy the way, do you tell people to buy the Chevy Aveo too...just because it is a GM Product ....even though it is built in Korea??)

Lastly......most Accords are all Built in Ohio.

Chris,

Thanks for all of the information on Honda!!

I have a question. I am going to purchase a fit in the next month or so. Do you anticipate any incentives in May, as there are none for April? In addition, a local dealer in OK has 4 on the lot....is there still a shortage and should I jump on the one I like now or wait until an incentive will appear??

Again, thanks for all of the information!!

My Camry was built in the US by workers who don't have to constantly fear about losing their jobs. Or are you concerned about GM executive's jobs being outsourced to Japan?

I would say that it hardly blows the doors off those cars. Its competitive with them yes but that's a whole 'nother story.

As for the American comment... my 2008 Subaru Legacy is made in Indiana...

You should look at the Malibu parts content - I guarantee that many of those parts are sourced outside the US...

No Incentives, but keep in mind the whole reason they are hard to come by is that we get a FULL Redesign in September for the Fit.

The model we have is actually 6 years old....but only been in the US for 2 years....so for the 09 MY we get a completely new Fit that looks better, is more spacious, has more features, and more horsepower with the same or better MPG.

Just wait for the new one!

Yeah but the whole American thing, what you people have to remember where that company is chartered, as in what is the home country of that company..............where is that money going, not to the 13.45 per hr at best made in Indiana Subaru plant.......just a thought

And what makes that a less-attractive plant to work in?? (And they make as much as 18 - 20 per hour at the Ohio Honda Plant by the way...Ive been there.) Putting on a Bumper is the same no matter where you work...and when there are skilled tradesman that make less than a guy who has a job my 8 year old could do...there is something wrong with that.

Why do you think the Big 3 have vehicles that cost 40-50k MSRP but are selling for 8-12k Less than that...

Cost of Building the vehicle...mainly because of payroll....so Quality has to go down to make up for the added manufacturing cost..and Incentives have to go up just so people will buy them because they are not worth the MSRP.

......hence the reason Honda is in the Black and most everyone else is in the red....

Give me a Great quality vehicle at a lower cost with a Higher resale than a Honda...and Ill buy it regardless of where it is made.

Hi Chris,

You are an information guru!

We are planning to buy an '08 or '09 minivan within the next year. It will be one of these three: Nissan, Honda or Toyota. I have to say, I prefer the styling of the Quest and Sienna.

Now, I know you are biased as you sell Hondas, but all things being equal with the vans (DVD, poss. navigation, sunroof) aren't these vans comparably priced? And aren't they all pretty reliable? I don't care about resale as, after I drive my van for 4-5 years my husband uses it as his "station car" for the next about 4-5 years. Then we donate it.

I have had two (and currently drive my third, an '04) Chrysler Town & Country minivans. I have been very happy with all of them. I do not care for the new styling of the '08 Chrysler van so I am not considering buying one for that reason. I have to love what I drive!

Anyway, thanks for whatever info. you can throw my way.

FYI, I always do my legwork on www.Edmunds.com and then have gone on to buy my last two vans through www.autobytel.com. I believe I have gotten great deals by doing both of these things.

You deffinately have it right about me being biased, but I can turn my "FanBoy" switch off when needed!....LOL

On the 3 Being Comparably Priced....I would have to say a Resounding no...

1. The Sienna with the Same Features across the board (From Safety Features to Tech Packages to Engine to Seating) will run around 4-7k MORE than an Odyssey when it comes to actual Buying Prices almost every time. On top of the fact things like the NAVI they use and the one Honda Uses are night and day different when it comes to actual Functionality and "Ease of Use"

(Example...the Navi in the Sienna only has about 100 recognized commands...and the Mic is terrible in them...whereas the one in the Odyssey has over 800 and it understands you as if it were a Person sitting next to you....)

The Odyssey also has a LOT of standard features that to add to the Sienna is either not do-able (Isnt offered) or is a costly extra package.

2. A lot of the Above applies for the Quest as well...but the Quest will acutally be less expensive...Just make sure you research the things that break on a Consistent basis with them (we have a Nissan Dealership as part of our Autogroup...and sales people who are friends of mine that work there tell me horror stories everyday about them...)

Reliable / Dependable and Quest do not go in the same sentence with each other.

You of course will research this your self and will gleam your own answers from that research....just make sure you look at sites like Consumer Reports / Car and Driver / Motor Trend / Automobile Mag...etc...and many of the things I have said here as well as many others will come to light for you to help you in your decision.

(And resale value always matters....it helps in telling you how "worth the money" one vehicle is compared to another...no matter how long you keep it!)

Each dealership will be doing there own thing...but from Honda there is the APR and Lease specials available.....

Keep in mind that on many occasions...dealers know that weekends like that will be busy anyway...so they may or may not offer a better deal than normal on that weekend!

I live in Palo Alto and have Stevens Creek Honda nearby and Anderson Honda. They seem to be the dealers most go with in this area for some reason. I'm looking to get the following:

Honda Accord Sedan 2008 EX-L V6 - NAVI - Black

Top tier credit here and have a 1991 trade in Accord, which should be worth a small handful of money, but emphasis on small. Any information you may have for me would be much appreciate and I apologize in advance if I have not provided enough information.

For the car that you are interested in, they are not the most numerous Available, however you will be able to get some sort of discount on them.

Your trade will be worth between 500.00 to 1k bare minimum.....depending on condition.

The best thing you can do from this point is see who may actually have the car you want....and then see who will offer you the best Drive Out price for your area by either phone or email....dont fall for the "come in and we will see what we can work out" stuff...

APR wise, you can see on the Honda site what is avialable for you...per what your credit is.

Let us know what you get offered and we can go from there!

It was brought to our attention that at the pace Honda is selling Civics right now...within the next 45-60 Days Honda may run out of 2008 Model Honda Civics to sell....

This means ALL Models...not just the Hybrids and Si's....

And we dont get the MMC 2009 Model until Oct or so.......

So that means there is a possibility that by the End of June...you wont be able to buy a Civic until October...

Strange even me seeing those words typed....lol

So check with your local dealers or with me....and take advantage of the APR Specials and Availability while they last...

Considering the 09 Pilot came available today to sell...yes the Incentives and APR's abound!

APR RAtes are as low as 0.9% up to 36 Months and 2.9% from 37 to 60 Months with Approved Credit (Tier 1 ) Through Honda....

I think they just make more money on this Zurich and thats why they are pushing you into it....

When a Vehicle gets serviced...especially at a Honda Dealer...the Price paid is set on each job...so that line about "pays more per hour" is BS in my opinion...

I would ask for the Honda Care and leave it at that...

Right now, the plan is to go through a program with my credit union, which is said to offer the LX at $168xx (the lady at the credit union couldn't quite decipher the last two digits on the low-quality FAX she was reading off of), plus $125 service charge for using the credit union dealer network. That looks to be right at invoice. As long as that is the out-the-door price, should I hope for anything better?

I've got an appointment tomorrow with a sales consultant at a Honda dealership. I'm looking at a Civic Coupe LX, automatic, no options.

Price looks good, but why are you not getting the Honda Special APR?

Im sure your credit union cant get as low as 1.9% up to 36 Months and 2.9% up to 60 months (with Approved Credit of course)

Oh, I plan to. I made sure to ask if I could still use Honda Finance even if I went through the credit union dealer network, and they said that they didn't really care how you pay for the car - they said if I wanted, I could even get a loan through another bank. It's just a perk for being a CU customer.

Ok, this isn't really a question specifically about Hondas... but the trip to the Honda dealership didn't go well at all. The deal fell apart, but not until after they had supposedly pulled my credit report for Honda Financing.

However, I still would be interested in getting a Honda. If I go to a different dealership (because hell would freeze over before I went back to the one I went to today) and apply again for Honda financing... would this show up as two hard pulls or just one, and if two, how badly will this hurt my credit? I don't meant to brag, but I've got impeccable credit ratings, and I don't want this to screw it over.

(Basically, if it's going to ruin my credit, I will just wait for a while before getting a new car.)

If this isn't the best place to ask this, can someone point me to a better place?

This is a BIG Myth....

When it comes to shopping with your credit....as long as you dont do it every couple of months and you have all your Credit pulls within a 30 Day period of time and DO end up buying something....credit reports count this as 1 Pull Score-Wise....

They know you will do some shopping...so it wont kill your credit like everyone thinks.....just dont do it a lot and keep all of the Pulls within a 30 Day period of time.

I'm looking at a 2009 Pilot. I saw the 2008s, and I did like the way it handled on the test drive, but there's just something about a column shifter on an SUV that bugs me.

2009 Pilot, 4WD, Touring w/Nav, no DVD. Either Sterling Gray or Bali Blue, Gray leather interior. Preferably with 18" tires, and a remote starter.

The dealership here (Long Island, NY) quoted me on a 39 month lease, $0 down, taxes, bank fee and first month's payment up front, around $570/month, which seemed so far beyond absurd that I think I drooled a little.

Is that about average, seeing as how they're mostly MSRP now? Or was that dealer trying to stick it to me?

Im sure that is pretty accurate considering they have only been out a Couple of weeks...and there are no Incentives or Specials on them....

Keep in mind, unlike many other manufacturers...Honda doesnt usually HAVE to put incentives or Specials out for a Brand New vehicle because they move....one way or the other.

You may be able to get a 500 to 1k Discount....but dont expect much more than that.

Chris,

I have been quoted by a local dealer in MA on an Odyssey EX-L for a total OTD price of $27,566. Is this a good deal? I am also thinking of financing, how high a score does one need to get Honda's advertised 0.9% for 36 months. Are there any tricks/pitfalls the dealer will play for me not to get this financing, as I knwo my credit score from experian is considered excellent.

Hi!

I am looking to purchase a Honda Odyssey Touring but do not know whether I should wait till the end of summer when their new 2009 is coming out so the prices for the 2008 will be lower. Can someone give me some insight on this? The deal that one of the dealership is giving me now is 6,000 below the MSRP price. They were quoting me a price of $36,355 out the door. Is that a good deal? Another question is that would the tires for the Touring non -Pax be available at any tire store? This is the non-pax version. I am concerned that the tires would be much more expensive and harder to find than the Ex-L version.

I kind of have a general question. Is there any way to find out what incentives are going to be coming next? I'm interested in a Tahoe, but right now there is only a $2000 incentive (and $2000 customer cash which I don't qualify for because I have a dodge and toyota). Is there a way to see their future "add" like stores have? thanks!

The Non-Pax tires are the same as what are on any other Odyssey....the Pax tires are about 400.00 a piece because you have to buy the whole unit...not just the tire.

The drive Out you have there is about as good as it can get....wether now or once the 09's come out...

They cant really get any lower than what they are right now...

I have no idea about Chevy vehicles...I sell Honda's...but I can tell you that unless they are giving you one for free...you need to look at the THOUSANDS of used ones that are now available from trade ins...and are so cheap because no one wants to buy them...

Are you really stuck on a Tahoe???

Example: 2007 LTZ Tahoe with everything included (NAV / DVD loaded to the gills) we got one in on trade for 27k...selling it for right at 30k....and it only has 8k miles....and that is a vehicle that is 45-50k Brand new from a dealership...

You may want to try Autotrader first....as well as cars.com and Craigslist...

To get one from me would require Transport Costs to you for probably 1k or more....

So try local first then use me as a last ditch effort...

Worst case scenario Ill find you one that works for you!

I have a question regarding the 0.9% APR for 24-36 months. It states here as an example for 2008 Odyssey: 0.9% for 36 months financing at $28.16 a month for every $1,000.00. Shouldn't it be $9/ month for every $1,000??

jbs12975
06-06-2008, 06:46 AM
$28.16 sounds about right. If your payments are that for 36 months, you end up paying $1,013.76 over the life of the loan, only $13.76 interest for the 3 year duration, can't beat that. At $9/mo you'll never pay off the loan.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My question is.... is there a "cash value" for that low interest financing? I plan to purchase a 2008 Honda Accord EX-L sometime in the next 7-14 days and was wondering about that. If I were to offer cash could I get a few more hundred dollars off the sale price? Otherwise, if you held cash it would make more sense to finance as much as possible for 36 months and hold those cash reserves in an account that paid good interest and make your payments out of the money that is "set aside" to pay for your car.

My dealer was offering me $1000 less if I were to pay cash. But we were calculating that if we were to finance, we will probably earn more from interest in the bank than paying it all off up front.

They mean the total Amount....car price and all...so if you are buying a 25k Vehicle and financing it for 36 Months at 0.9%....you are paying about 704 per month...for 36 Months....but the total amount you pay for the loan is only 25,344.00

So you spend 344.00 in interest over 36 Months.

or look at it like this....

25 x 28.16 = 704.00 (Per month)

704 x 36 Months = 25,344.00

$28.16 sounds about right. If your payments are that for 36 months, you end up paying $1,013.76 over the life of the loan, only $13.76 interest for the 3 year duration, can't beat that. At $9/mo you'll never pay off the loan.

RES (REAR DVD), thats what rep told me. In the specs it shows that this model has that Variable cylinder management (VCM). Where should I start bargaining for this? This is the link for the van I am talking about. Your help appreciated

I went to this show room twice in the weekend, Had a test drive on the van, Drives good, Then started with paper work with the sales person. But for some reason they didnt even drop a penny from their published price of 25995$. I started with 21$ but the rep told me that he would call me if some other vans come in with that price range and he said bye bye. Even during my trips to the show room he didnt pay much attention to sell this van rather he is promoting another minivan. Should I complain this to a sales manager or leave the issue. I did like the van. Nice color and low miles. Advice appreciated.

Hi Chris,

I am in the market for an EX-L Odyssey (no RES no NAV) and would appreciate your help. In May, through multiple sources, I determined that the incentives to the dealer on the Odyssey were $2000 or $1000 if you were to choose the 0.9%/2.9% financing from AHFC. I had emailed several dealers and had gotten a low quote of $26,900 for a cash purchase or $27,900 if I elected to use the AHFC special rates.

It is now my understanding that as of June 3rd, the incentives have changed. Now the low dealer is offering the Ody at $26,900 and I can get the AHFC special rates. I was able to confirm that with several other dealers. What surprises me, is that there is no additional dealer cash if the buyer does not opt for the special AHFC rates. That is, it appears that the special financing is take it or leave it. At least that is what I have been able to get out of the local dealers. Can you confirm that this is currently the incentives at your dealership?

Do you get solid confirmed information regarding the next month's incentives prior to them going into effect? I would consider waiting to buy until the end of the month if I knew near the end of the month what the new incentives would be.

Back to my original quote of $26,900. That seems like a good price based on the following formula I have been using for Odysseys (Example: EX-L MSRP $32,880 incl. 635 destination):

Start with invoice price: 29,836
Subtract off dealer cash incentives (currently $2000)
Subtract holdback (3% of MSRP less destination)

29,836 - 2000 - (.03 x 32,245) = $26,869

This is very close to the low quote I received and was very similar for a straight EX that I got quotes on as well.

I know May was a slow month, again, for Odyssey sales and with gas prices going up again this month, it is hard to imagine that the demand will be increasing.

Please let me know if you have any insights on my approach. Thanks.

You must REALLY want that '09.

I WAS looking for an '09 and called my local dealer today, I've been buying Honda's from them for 15 years, and they offered me an '08 EX-L for $4,000 below invoice literally before I even asked. It's tough to swallow the $6,500+ premium for an '09.

Dealer claims that the Pilot and Ridgeline are almost impossible to sell right now and the the Odyssey isn't doing much better.

Ok...to answer your questions my words may seem somewhat strong in the follwoing sentances but please do not take them as me being a Butt...but I have had this question asked about this and many other Models of "Truck Line" Vehicles here lately...and already have had some customers who have talked themselves right out of a good deal and are regretting it dearly...so bare with me:

When it comes to the Incentives....NOT having to add money back to get the Special APR is something we consider as a Great Incentive to use the Special APR....and if you have enough Cash to pay for it in Cash...surely your money is making more than what the Special APR rate is sitting in the bank....

We dont know what Incentives are going to be until they come out...we have no prior knowledge even 24 hours before hand other than guessing what might or might not be...

I see people with your mind set all too often...l.who want to wait and wait until the "Best Deal Ever" comes out....but you will drive yourself as well as the Dealerships you are working with crazy doing such.

The prices you have there are very good....and no matter what you do, there will always be someone who got a better deal or worse deal than you...you just need to decide if the deal you are being offered right now is good for you at this time on that vehicle...and either get it or dont...but dont make the mistake of so overthinking the whole thing that you miss out on what is going on right now....

And dont think that just because Odysseys may have been slow that Honda as a whole was slow....Honda was the Number One selling manufacturer for May...and the Civic was the Number one selling car in america...(Our dealership had an all time record month in our 31 Year History of over 500 New and over 170 Used Sold) .....so if you try to use that with your dealership as a reason to try to get more money off of the car...chances are they will look at you with a somewhat wry grin and tell you no thank you...

So in short....go get it...before somewhat else does and you miss out!

Chris

This is true....considering the 08's have incentives and the 09's have none....

Until the Supply of 08's goes down....the 09's wont be budging.....otherwise the 08's would be hard to move...

The bright side of things is that Honda is making up for the lack of sales in the Truck lines with the Gigantic Increase in the sales of the Car lines....and trust me when I say we have NEVER seen such a shift or anything like it...

[QUOTE=CBondHonda;11645265]21k Is far too low...however I think you wouldnt be asking too much for it to be somewhere in the 23-24k Range...

Hi Chris,

Saw two more Odysseys, Both 2006 EX-L one with 37 K miles asking Price 22995 and other with 19 K Miles Asking Price 22995. First van I offered upto 20 K$ and sales rep / manager didnt agree for that price. Am I reasonble in bargaining or not? What should the bargaining / reasonble price for the secone van? Advice appreciated.

When it comes to working with a Negotiating Dealer....you cant just throw a number out there, they wont take you seriously....you need info to back up what you are offering.

Go to sites like Autotrader / KBB etc....and get the Trade and Selling values of comparable models with comparable prices to show whoever it is you are working with.

Since we sell cars from a Non-Negotiating standpoint where I work...we cant play the Can you Do Better game....and from what I have on my lot...those actually seem like pretty good prices as long as they are certified used Honda's.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your response. I appreciate your comments, but I think you may have misunderstood my intentions and some of my questions. I have interjected my thoughts below in blue.

I fully understand the added value of getting the $2000 dealer cash and the financing. I simply thought it was strange that Honda would not offer some additional cash back if the customer chose to not use the financing. With 'take it or leave it' financing, as you stated, the customer would be crazy to pay cash and forego 0.9% for 36-months.

We dont know what Incentives are going to be until they come out...we have no prior knowledge even 24 hours before hand other than guessing what might or might not be...

I apologize. I misunderstood your offer in the opening paragraph of this thread where you stated: "... plus I usually know well ahead of time (a week or so) when new Rates are coming up...". I think of special rates as a type of promotion, so I thought you might also have knowledge of dealer cash as well.

I see people with your mind set all too often...l.who want to wait and wait until the "Best Deal Ever" comes out....but you will drive yourself as well as the Dealerships you are working with crazy doing such.

Here we will have to disagree. This is an SD forum, so one might expect to find people 'extremely interested' in finding a good deal. I assume you have been to the hot-deals forum, where you can find individuals concerned with wringing the last $5 out of a computer video card purchase. I do not question there motives: everyone draws the line in a different place regarding a 'good deal'. I view a car purchase no differently, except that there is so much more to gain or lose on such a large purchase.

I know I have not driven myself crazy regarding collecting info that may lead to an additional $1000 savings. I have only emailed local dealers once or twice, so I am quite confident I am not causing them any distress either. I am not interested in stripping the last penny out of the dealer (but they are big boys and surely can take care of themselves), but, to the extent possible, I do not want to leave a $1000 on the table because Honda decides to change their incentives.

I actually, considered making this purchase at the end of May (BTW is there any validity to the 'old wives tale' that end of the month is the best time to make a deal?), but chose not to. I made that decision primarily based on my local dealers' inventory (isn't the internet handy for monitoring supply?). Had I purchased last month over this month, I would have missed out on doubling up on the dealer cash and the special financing, which is worth a least a $1000 to me. So, when I saw your post (that I apparently misunderstood) offering foreknowledge of upcoming 'rates', I was intrigued with the possibility of knowing how Honda's next month's incentives might change, before this month's incentives ended. Of course, I understand, that at any moment a dealer can rescind an offer for any reason, not just changes in incentives from Honda.

I don't need to buy a new van right now, so time is my friend. Much like a lot of the impulse purchases I make based listings on the Hot Deals forum, I will buy when I think the price is right. I don't need to get the best deal, but I wouldn't mind getting pretty close to the bottom ;) .

Again, you may have misunderstood my comment. Honda is having a terriffic year. I spoke only about the softness of Odyssey sales and made no mention of using any sales information with any local dealers. My point was that demand for the Odyssey and other 'trucks' in the Honda line are down and, because of increasing gas prices, likely to go lower. If $2000 dealer cash did not 'rescue' Odyssey May sales, I am thinking I may take more, esspecially in light of increasing gas prices, which are not the Ody's friend.

So in short....go get it...before somewhat else does and you miss out!

Chris

As the end of this month approaches, I will continue to monitor all of my local dealers' inventory. If inventory continues to be high, I will probably take a chance and see what new incentives are offered in July. Of course I may miss out on the 'bottom', but that's a risk all of us SDers take when searching for a deal.

Thanks again for your help and comments.

What I meant by the Rates part was other banks and lenders, and not the actual Honda Specials....so that is my fault for not being more clear.

EDITED

For the End of Month thing...this depends solely on how much volume your local dealers do....Low volume means no changes from beginning of month to end of month...high volume usually means goals to hit so prices are looked at on the 3rd week to see what is going to happen week 4.

I must agree that the Internet Is the ONLY way to purchase a car and do it the right way without the headaches and hassles of old....and I cant think of a better way to sell a car either...

Granted some points we can agree to disagree on....but dont hesitate to ask when in need of a question to be answered....thats why I am here!

Chris-

I am near you- in Houston. I am looking to buy a new accord coupe ex-l v6 (auto).
Invoice is 26,312 and msrp is 28,980 (according to edmunds). How much wiggle room is there in terms of getting the best price? I've been to 3 Honda dealers- all have given me the "a black on black ex-l v6 auto coupe is impossible to get... but we can get one- since its hard, no incentives, blah blah."

Thanks for your help, and repped! :thanks:

My girlfriend is considering new Fit Sport. What's a good deal?

She has very poor credit (in the process of re-building), I have very good credit. Can she get financing without me? Will it help if I co-sign? Will it hurt my credit if I co-sign for her (all payments will be made on time)?

The is all relative to her's and your credit...which I havent seen...so I cant honestly answer wether or not she can get a Car Loan without you. It would deffinatley help if you co-sign...and no as long as it is paid for properly it will do nothing but help your credit.

As to a good deal on a New Fit...anything at or under MSRP right now would be considered a Good Deal.

My parents (68 & 65) are looking at buying a 2008 CR-V LX 2wd with tow package and security alarm system added. They will be paying cash.

What is a good price? They are in no hurry so should they wait until the end of the year for incentives?
