My method is for people that don't have Acrobat Pro, but as you will see, it is roughly the same process.

First, you will need Foxit reader. The free download can be found here (http://www.foxitsoftware.com/downloads/). I use this as my default reader because it is faster and lighter than Adobe reader. Anyway, Foxit reader allows you to modify a pdf by adding fillable elements. It is actually Foxit's way of letting you preview features that are offered in their non-free packages. Since it is only a preview feature, the catch is that if you try to save the pdf you have made fillable, it adds an overlay comment saying something about being created with Foxit.

To make a fillable rebate, open the rebate pdf with Foxit reader. Then, select Tools>Advanced Editing Tools. There, you will see the various elements you can add, such as text boxes and check boxes. From here, you'll just have to experiment around to get the different elements just right on the page, but it is no harder than working with a word processor. I will mention that while you are editing the elements, you cannot fill them. You have to click on the hand button and then click on the field to perform your filling action. If something doesn't look right (e.g. font size is too small), just go back to Tool>Advanced Editing Tools and select one of the elements you want to fix to get back into the editing mode. When you have everything the way you want it, fill the fields and print. So long as you don't save, the print out will not have the overlay comment mentioned above.

One last thing. It is sometimes necessary to zoom in on an area of the pdf to get the fillable element tweaked just right. For example, if you want to add a check box, sometimes the element check box cannot be made smaller than the pdf check box. In this case, zoom in on the pdf check box. The element check box will also now be larger, but it can then be resized to fit in the pdf check box area.

Hope this helps someone. I always appreciate when people provide fillable rebates for deals. I have become dependent on them. My handwriting is so bad that I set out to find a way to make my own fillable rebate when one isn't posted. That way, I can't get rejected for a rebate on the grounds that my form was illegible. My handwriting is probably not that bad, but a filled rebate looks very nice. When a rebate processor sees one of these, they would have to know you mean business, so it might reduce the chance of having your rebate rejected for some bogus reason.

Seems like a bit of effort to do this...and a bit of effort to read this whole post (which might account for some of the thumbs down)...but it also took a bit of effort to post this. I'm sure it'll help some folks here, and I agree that a fillable form is much nicer than a handwritten one...so thumbs up from me. i think is good information, at least for me. my hand writing is not the best, so far i haven't had a rebate denied, but the posibility remains. thanks for the info.

Just get Adobe Professional 8 and use the typewriter and your all set.

Don't need all that work. Just use the typewriter tool in Foxit Reader. Click where you want to type and you can type there.

If you really want to save it, just use a pdf printer.

I agree. Typewriter is great. I sometimes scan hard copies of forms to .pdf and the use it. Makes my life much easier. Always filling out rebates or recommendation forms, etc.

I've used Foxit and The Gimp, a freeware image editor. Saved the image to The Gimp, then used The Gimp to add text. :)

Tried to use this on the Kohls rebate for blender. The image needs to be rotated and straightened. I can rotate but wasn't able to straighten, therefore the text is not straight.

I have a whole bunch of templates made up using Abode, so when a new rebate for say Antec comes out, all I have to do is cut and paste, and viola, everything is filled out :)

A tip for those with Abode Professional- once you have created all your text fields, etc, make one more text field that is the size of the entire page and make it disabled. This way, when you cut and paste (CTLR+A to select all elements), it will be relative to the page, and not relative to the cursor.

Also, I payed for a program to unsecure secure pdfs, which are a real PITA- OfficeDepot, I am looking at you :)

Does PDF Converter Professional 5 offer the same feature as Foxit?

I like Nitro PDF as it will do the same thing. It also loads a "print driver" that is very handy for saving web pages etc so if there is a hassle with an order e.g. price or for what ever reason you can save what you have on the screen as proof--not just used to save web pages to pdf--lots of over uses as well!
