Can anyone tell me why when I am trying to rep someone - not for starting a thread - but where you can rep for a comment - I would get a message like "You must spread some reputation around before giving it to "someone" again? Just curious.
Thanks for any help on this

It means you must spread reputation around. You've repped that person too recently and need to rep other people before you will be able to rep that persona gain.

What? Is there a limit to how many reps you can give someone? Isn't that sorta controlling?
I had no idea that there was a limit on that! Do you know what the limit number is? Thanks

I don't believe there is a limit to how many times you can rep someone, you just need to rep other between before you'll be able to rep that person again.
It's to cut down on rep abuse. If that wasn't in place, I could rep you 100x in a row and you'd be up 400 rep points.

This came up when I had never tried to rep this way before. I just learned how to do it. It is possible that I had repped one of their's deal - but not one of their postings. So it still doesn't make sense to me. I do appreciate your help in this. Thanks

It doesn't matter if they were the person who started the thread or if they were someone who commented in it, either way, you'll have to rep other people before you can rep them.
If you want to remember what you repped them for, on the black bar near the top of slickdeals, click quick links and go down to my profile. From there you can see reps given.

I can't remember the exact amount but there is a number of reps that must be given out before you can rep the same person again.

For instance, if you rep me, then you must rep 5 or 6 other people before you are allowed to rep me again. hth

Also, there is a limit on how many total reps you can give out per 24 hours. I don't know that amount either but I'd guess you can rep around 10 times a day.

Thanks!!!! I have searched all over the site to find out about how many reps you are allowed - and couldn't find anything. I appreciate your time to help me!

We should test this out to find out for sure. I volunteer to be the test case. Everybody needs to rep me, then count how many users they need to rep before they can rep me again. Keep doing this until we find out how many times a day you can rep me per day. This is the only scientific method available to us. I will post the results in this thread.

this is not allowed.....considered rep abuse and is a warnable offense...some SDers had their rep privileges revoked permanently and names turned unbold due to rep abuse. mods can read your reps.

If u rep X, u must give reps to 5 other people before you can rep X again. In some ways this is just as unfair as rep abuse because some days the same person posts all the good deals/freebies/whatever your favorite forum, but you have to rep lousey posts in order to rep the person who really deserves it again, so the deserving post doesn't get the reps it deserves - not fair.
