I'm just curious, but how old are most cvsers. I'm 17 and I think i'm the youngest cvser around, i've been doing it since I was 16. At first my mom was wondering what I was doing, but now she doesnt care, as long as it's free.

I think the better poll would have been Male vs. Female. I read many threads with the her/she pronouns, I've always wondered how many guys do the CVS work.
I do all the CVSing around the house, as the gf is wholly uninterested. It's weird going to the counter with lots of facial creams and girly body washes, but it saves me money and earns me brownie points! :yummy:

I went to riteaid at midnight with my wife and ended up standing around for 30 minutes with the manager and the two store clerks about coupons. Halfway through the conversation she said " I can't believe I am having this conversation with a guy"

24 - I do get some odd looks being a younger guy! I think I get off easy though because of it sometimes, there's a bias here against certain older ladies who go around and clear out stores... Nobody on here, or who's ever been on Slickdeals probably, just the kind who hang out for hours and annoy people ^^;;

thats how i feel too.. but im also a 23 yr old black male so it totally goes against the stereotypical coupon user.. they probably are shocked when my $20 purchase becomes an oop .54 cents to pay off the small balance.. then they see a roll of ECBs come out.. lol..

I'm 33, but my 15 year old daughter would easily qualify too - she's at the store with me doing her own orders almost as often as I am. And, I'm sure my 7 year old would be highly offended if he was not considered a CVS shopper too - he can handle doing his own orders pretty well too, provided I get the stuff together for him (he gives the card, the coupons in the correct order, and pays without assistance). My 12yo is just along for the ride and the free stuff he can get, lol - he could care less about figuring out how the orders get put together.

$3.35 and hour, must be nice! At 16 I was making $3.10 and hour and moved out at 17, still making $3.10 an hour. (I am 37, couple years older than you are.)

Age thing is differrnt tho with forums.. alot of young people enjoy the forum culture while only a select few older people can get online and understand it to the fullest..
we buy coupons and use them because we have the info beforehand to put things together.. we are also able to move about quickly without really gettin into someones way.. I met an old lady at cvs who uses the net for this exact same thing but she pays a service to get access to forum that is just about groceries...she probably had to be coached how to even get this site.. and if she was to loss her bookmark, she would be shit out of luck.. we have info about every deal we can find no matter the store.. I did tell her about slickdeals tho..

Happy Birthday!!! I repped you because you are a teen with responsibilities you shouldn't have yet, although it sounds like you enjoy it, but it will make you a wise adult sooner and hopefully you won't make some bad money mistakes. :-) Wish they had a CVS program when I was in college. It's hard being poor!
1. Get a credit card in your name, use it once right away and pay off the balance
2. Don't use again until you are about 27. HA HA...just kidding
3. If you make charges on your credit card...pay the full balance off every month
4. If the due date is on the 15th, mail it at least 7 days in advance. Don't be ignorant like I was when I was in college and think that as long as I mailed it by the due date and it was post marked, you wouldn't be charged a late fee. It must be received and processed by due date...
5. Pay yourself first before your bills. Save 10% of your paycheck each week and put it in an interest bearing account.
6. If you save $2000 a year now, each year and put it in an IRA...you will be a millionaire when you are ready to retire.
Okay...that's my advice. Have fun couponing.

I'm 1 of 7. My mom was always recruiting us to do her coupon deals. (Pay for the limit of 4, go out to the car, come back in, buy 4 more....) I can't say I was enthusiastic about it. I was embarrassed. So YMMV by how your children respond to this idea. They may do it, but they won't like it. LOL!

Yesterday, I told him I need some help to move some heavy stuff such as Swiffer starter kit... I asked him if he hates going inside CVS, he said no. But then when we arrived at the entrance of the CVS he asked me angrily if he "want him to go inside" (that means he does not want to - I get it).

I bet she is using the Grocery Game site! In their forum all sale items must be referred to as "the mushy razors" "the mushy shampoo" it is really bizare! I hope she finds SD and joins us!
I am a firm believer that age is just a number, I have friends IRL and online young and old. I have been couponing since I was a child, my mom is a couponer and already my children (4) ask "mommy do we have a coupon for xyz" before asking if they can buy it! :lmao: They will be third generation couponers!

yeah you definitely figured it out.. but I dont think of 52 as old at all... my parents are 50 and 52 and see nothing slowing them down.. they could easily grasp the concept because they both have been working with computers because of their occupation since they have came out.. I just dont think they would enjoy the forum culture thats comes with gettin the info..
Old begins at 60:lol: so have fun for the next 8 years..

52 here. Been couponing for what seems like forever. I remember going to the store with my mom way back when, and coupons were for about .03 off an item. If you found one for a nickel off, you thought you found gold, LOL!
I'm also impressed with the young people on here that are determined to save money and find deals. I know my three kids, all grown, couldn't be bothered.

That is great that you two can get your significant other involved. My wife goes along and actively participates. (That means she puts items in the card, some of which are extra). She lets me work out the deals but she does read through the advertisements to see if there is anything she wants. We then go to the store together, pick out the items and then she lets me go to the register to pay! Its nice because we save money together but get to spend that extra time together as well.
BTW I added a link to this post here (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=157982&t=748344) in the Get to know your Fellow Drugstore SDers

34 for a bit longer, lol! My DH would rather stick a fork in his eye than go through the "trouble" that we sometimes face with legit coupons. However, if his mom were still with us, I know that she would have been right behind me in line with her stack of q's.:)
I blame my Dad for my coupon addiction. :) He did the grocery shopping in our house and always had his coupon book with him. I also remember having to go with him to stand in a separate line at Roy Rogers so that we could use more than one coupon. He could never turn down a freebie either. My children are showing signs of the addiction too. They love to go to Math night at school (nevermind that they have straight A's) merely for the free refreshments at the end.

They just can't wrap their head around a 23 year old wanting to save money!
I'm called "the coupon lady".
I know what you mean! I'm 24 and started 2 years ago.. its still weird to be called a coupon lady but whatever.
I turned 23 in November. I feel the same way. Im extremely surprised to see so many young people couponing. I think its great though.. its good to see our generation being smart and saving money!
Me too! I hated seeing other college kids spend tons of money in the CVS right off campus last year. I just wanted to :headbang:
LOL!
Vicki
Hey! I'm one of 7 too! But my parents think I'm crazy (and a thief to boot) for SDing, they don't talk about money. Me, I like to bargain.
Best compliment ever: I was dressed really trendy and nice the other day, and when I handed the cashier a stack of coupons, she looked me up and down and said (and I quote) "You do NOT look like you sit around and clip coupons."
Overall, I find that most cashiers have a lot of respect for younger couponers, but there are definitely some older women that seem very jealous that I can get good deals (probably better than theirs!)

I'm 48. I'm really impressed to see so many younger people using coupons and taking advantage of all the deals. My Grandma taught me how to be frugal with coupons. We only had double coupons to a $1 a few days a year at one store on Memorial Day, July 4th, & Labor Day. She would collect coupon inserts from neighbors and wait for those days to get really good deals. She would put all her bargains in a spare room and let us "shop" her store when we came to visit. I think she got as much joy out of giving it away as she did buying it. She'd be proud of how well I've done with CVS and Target in the last few years.
I've been couponing since I was married at 25. Now that I'm a single mom with one in college it really helps with the finances. We NEVER buy toiletries, cold medicine, kleenex, toilet paper and everything else that I get free at CVS or Target! We get free or really cheap food too with Target & manufacturers coupons, and deals at CVS.
My son always goes back to college with boxes of stuff. Hopefully, it will rub off on him and he'll coupon when he's on his own. Right now I think he figures that he gets enough from me!

I'm 22. My father is the frugal one. The past two years I watched my parents go through some hard times and saw how my dad learned to start shopping smarter. I decided to try it. I got hooked on buying things cheaper... but without coupons. That's when I started thinking about how much even better my deals could get if I used coupons. I hit the internet, searched around and started learning how to save.
I moved out of my parents house a year ago to live with my boyfriend and this also helped me learn to save. Two weeks ago my boyfriend was fired from his job because one morning before he went to work he had to call an amublance to take me to the hospital. He missed work that day and then was sick with the flu the rest of the week. I am now the sole supporter of our household until he can find a better job. I really needed to start saving money so I turned to this website. I've done great the past two weeks, with under $20 OOP and over $200 in savings at CVS. Now I' m trying to apply my skills at the grocery store.
Just yesterday I took my mom on her first official CVS shopping experience to really save. She was shocked that she only spent $15 and bought over $80 worth of products. I brought my mom home, showed my father and he made me promise to bring him with me at least once a week.

Vicki
:iagree:
GREAT ADVICE!
I am in my early 30's. I have been cutting coupons since I was about 10 I think...maybe even earlier. I remember going to Cub Foods and right by the carts, inside the entrance doors there was a HUGE coupon coral(? I think it was called that) and there were thousands of coupons for everything! You left the ones you didn't want and took others you wanted...it was even organized...boy was that awesome, it would be great if they still had that! Around my family and friends I am known as the queen of deals! I can't even imagine how much more $ I could've saved if I had known about Slickdeals earlier than Jan of this year!!! I am just so thankful to have found it now!!!! When people see my totals go from $50 to .50 they are shocked and ALWAYS ask me if I'm in finance...does anyone else get that?

I just turned 48 but I've been couponing since I was a teen. I used to send for free samples when I was a young kid. Everyone thought I was strange. I got my mother into using coupons too. I am big into rebating too but it has been nearly impossible to get the rebate forms for the last few years. I do the Rite Aid sales and rebates every week and get a lot of free stuff. I hate CVS (gasp) so I don't shop there. It was too much of a hassle with the sh*t I got from the cashiers and co-called managers that don't know their as* from their elbow. I do just fine at Rite Aid. Years ago I used to get double coupons at 2 stores in my area. I used to stock up big time.
I am surprised to see so many young teens and people in their 20's big into getting deals. I thought I was the only one. I am glad to see I have company.

to be rich in the future you must be cheap in the present...
Couldn't be anything truer!
I'm 40 and spent years just being a tightwad and really not buying anything that wasn't absolutely necessary or a true bargain. I've known about SD for years and never looked beyond the Hot Deals page! For me the prize was paying off my house at 32, no debt, a college fund for my only child, retirement accts. and eventually financial freedom to buy the extras - and when I finally had the extra money I discovered couponing! It's been great these last few months.
I'm enjoying getting more for the same or less oop and I'm thankful for all the posters working together to get these great deals.

28 and just started shopping CVS 2 months ago. Gives my wife an I something to look forward to when we go to visit my parents,
That is so funny. I thought it was just me. We recently went to Indiana to see my dh family and the first thing I did was see how close CVS was and how many there were. His mom thought I was insane. His sister is pregnant and they had the diaper deal going. I asker her to go with me and she looked at me like I must have been insane. Oh well, I will keep saving my money while they keep spending theirs.... On the positive note, though, they did spend it on my son :)
Before I say this - I AM NOT UNGRATEFUL - they spent $200 on a wonderful train set that he is in love with and I have wanted for him for a long time. The down side - all I could think about was that if they had asked for my help or given the money, I could have gotten the same train set, a new wardrobe (he's 3) and some shoes and all my cvs deals for the week.
I ALWAYS stake out the closest CVS to where we are going and the closest one to the stops I know we make so we can use our ECB to get drinks, snacks, etc along the way instead of paying gas station prices. :)

I signed up for a free trial of the grocery game because I didn't see the grocery store deals on here and due to my limited amount of time - I haven't yet become good enough to match my own coupons and sales (I do, but not as well as they do). 26 here... but I go with my sister who's 27 becauseshe got me started at CVS but I also need someone to stick up for me when the cashier says "you can't use that coupon" or whatever they want to harass us about.
I only use coupons at cvs though... I dont ever use them at the actual grocery stores for some odd reason (not like thats a good thing). I am soo happy with how much money cvs saves me that I dont even care about the grocery store.

Kindred spirits! I am 28 years old.
My first recollection of couponing came when I was about 8 years old. On my way home from school, I saw that a neighbor's trash had been knocked over and there were hundreds of coupons all strewn on the sidewalk and street. I opened my backpack and stuffed as many of them in as I could, not really knowing the details, but knowing that they equated money in some way. I proudly presented them to my not-so-thrifty mom and quickly learned about expiration dates. This progressed from here and by 10 I was clipping coupons and arranging deals for my mom and begging my dad to take me to thrift stores and estate sales on the weekend mornings.
That said, to a certain degree thrifting was easier for me when I was a kid than now. It seems I had more time and my interests weren't so consuming...not to mention now I have responsibilities like husband and baby! I go through waves of heavy coupon use, and then I just seem to burn out. I have so many interests, it's hard to do them all, and sometimes I just don't "have it in me" to coupon. I know...but for me it's a mental commitment...all or nothin'!

25 here as well. I try to show my mother how to do it cuz she really should try to save where she can, but she seems a bit reluctant...so for now I've started donating stuff to her. Just brought her 3 toothpastes and a body wash for easter. She'll get bath and body works stuff in her christmas stocking, and will probably bring her some softsoap and toothpaste next time I see her.
I am starting to limit myself to things that are either free or I'm paid to take just to try to
a. keep my spending down (why is it I end up spending more than I used to...hmm)
b. keep my stockpile under control and limited to one or two shelves in the linen closet
c. keep my husband/friends from sending me to the looney bin. they get it to a degree but the big stockpile baffles them a bit.

I'm 54! I got totally addicted to Slick Deals freebies first. When my daughter was in college, lonely, across the country, she wanted me to send her letters. Problem is, she called me on her cell several times a day and I couldn't think of anything new to write her about because we had discussed everything already. So, I started sending her every freebie sample I could find so her dorm mailbox was full of stuff constantly. I sent all the little rebate checks to her as well. She would often get six to eight packages a day and they could never fit in her itty bitty mailbox and the dorm security people would chase her down to get her to collect her packages; if she'd get busy she'd accumulate two dozen really fast and they'd be really grouchy.
We don't have CVS here in Seattle so I'm limited to Walgreens and RiteAid mostly. When I go to visit my daughter I hit the CVS stores and it's fun to experience what you guys are all talking about.
I started couponing when I was in my early twenties. Back in those days, grocery stores had bins for customers to dump unwanted coupons and you could just stand there and search for those you wanted to use.

That was in the day when you had to clip out the "double coupon" and match it up with which coupon you wanted to double.
I'm old enough to actually have some coupons clipped from the food section of the paper with "no expiration" on them and no bar codes. Once in a while I will use one here or there. It really gets into a cashier's head and it's kind of funny to watch them try to figure out how to scan it with no upc code on it :lmao: ...... I'm sure they think I have saved every coupon I ever had, but no..... just a few in some old coupon envelopes sitting around waiting for "some day" to come.

21-year old male college student here. It’s a great feeling to save hundreds of dollars each week in CVS while paying only a few dollars oop. =D
The novamax deal got me hooked on CVS-ing
I think I’m pretty fortunate...back where I live (nyc), there are 4 CVS around my home within walking distance! In college, CVS is only a 5 minute drive. To make it even better, there aren't that many SD-ers there either =).

20... I got hooked on CVSing when I lived on campus! The local 24hr CVS would take meal plan money (called SunDollars) for merch just like cash. I also had an unlimited resource of Sunday papers for free! And thus began my CVS obsession!
Now I can hit about 7 or so CVS's on my way home from school... but no free papers anymore. :P I can barely find one with ads in it on Sunday out where I live now!

I'm a 23 yr black female!!! I've been couponing since I was about 15 but that was just for clothes. Every year my brother and I got a set amount to shop for school clothes and I realized very early that stores at the outlet malls sold the same things cheaper, and they usually had coupons. I started using coupons for other stuff last year after I graduated from college and my parents cut me off financially (not really I actually decided to cut myself off). I really started to coupon when I started Grad school last year. My inspiration is in my signature!!!

As for me, I'm young enough to have small children but old enough that they give me gray hairs! My mother did not coupon at all, so this is all new to me. My kids sure know what they are, though (and know it's verboten to touch mommy's coupons)! My husband couldn't turn a slick deal to save his life, if I send him to the store with Qs he forgets to pull them out of his freaking pocket. ugh! But at least he is pretty good about my stockpile, as long as I keep it neat and out of the way.

Yup thats the site.. Ugh! I hate that grocery game thing. It is such a rip off. I had to contact them bc in AZ, if you want to get a bulk subscription (more than one paper delivered) to the AZ Republic, you have to get it thru them. And you have to join their dumb site and pay. I was like why would I pay for information I can easily get for free elsewhere? And they still wouldnt sell me the newspaper subscriptions!

32, been couponing off an on for years now - My mom was a crazy coupon lady and I can remember sitting on the couch with her, helping go through coupons, or rebates. So she taught me well :-)
I've been CVSing and RAing for a few months now, I love it! Thank goodness for the internet, I don't think I would be able to keep up with everything without it! I just found out they are building a Wags just down the road from me - I can't wait to learn a new store!

22 here! My mom used coupons when I was growing up, but had stopped. I got her (46) and My 2 sisters (20 and 18) using coupons again at CVS and other stores. I love being able to get the most bang for my buck :bounce:

I'm 17. My mom thinks I'm crazy when I come home with bags of toothpaste and shampoo. My room is such a mess, but I never actually pay money for this stuff anymore! I'm sure it'll help a lot when I get to college.

Sell the extra to your friends and neighbors cheap for some extra money. ;) Help other poor college students and and make a little.
I put an ad on the forum for the university I am at saying I get the stuff free with coupons and am selling it for a nominal fee ($1 or 50 cents) to help pay for gas and newspapers. Response has been pretty good so far.

Lots of young people trying hard to make ends meet, and this makes it a lot easier. :)

I am 34... have been couponing since I have been about 16, working as a cashier seeing how people saved.. I started doing all the shopping for my family of 5... loved it.. stopped off and on for a while while growing up...
My 14 y/o son thinks I am crazy about it but tells his friends how much stuff I get for pennies, my 3 y/o sons favorite store is CVS and will ask daily to go to CVS, and training my 4 mo son to love CVS too....

I wonder how well the distribution of responses here reflects real life. To some degree, the older generations are less computer friendly, so it is possible that the responses here are colored by that.
On the other hand it is possible that computer usage isn't that much of a factor and these results reflect reality pretty fairly.
Hard to say.

I'm 26 and I just started CVS'ing about a month ago.
I've always loved coupons but this is the first time I've left a store and paid 5 cents AND then was given a plastic bag full of goodies AND $5 in cold hard cash!!!
I too am surprised by how young this forum is. I'm feel pretty sure that there are some more older CVSers who aren't as tech. savvy.

That is EXACTLY my problem! I'm 42 and do have a basic working knowledge of computer but took a long time for my first post as I didn't want to come off as less than savvy. BF SD I was a VIRGIN! (forums, threads, chats, posts...OH MY!)

55 and happy!
I'm so impressed with all of you who are so organized you can find time to juggle coupons and sales with caring for little ones. I always "couponed" before my kids were born but when they were young it was SO hard to find time to shop carefully (but I tried.)
Just don't get so addicted that you neglect your kiddos. It gets easy to put them last. Time goes so fast. My oldest got engaged this week.

Definitely one of the old grannies here...57. I take my 11 year old granddaughters with me and they're awesome, peelie snatchers extrordinaire, lol. If you want to know how far back my couponing goes, I used to do Green Stamps! You got sheets of them for certain dollar amounts, a stamp for each penny spent if I remember correctly, then took them home, pasted them in the books, went to the redemption centers and picked out your merchandise. They put oiut a catalog every year and that was my dream book, lol. Something for FREE was a lot harder to come by before the internet.

S&H Green Stamps!!!! Yes!!! I was a kid, but my mom let my sister and me pick stuff out. And help paste the stamps into the little books. I remember it being a big deal when stores stopped doing them! There were also some blue stamps, if I remember correctly.
My age? If I had grown up in Honolulu, I would have graduated with Barry Obama. :D

Dagnabbit, we're not all Luddites here in the 40s age bracket! You young whippersnappers don't remember this, but back in the Stone Ages, we had to type in a string of numbers and put the handset of our phone (the big black thing with round holes you stuck your fingers in) into a little cradle thing and it would chirp at the Internets and little envelopes of data would fly out of the chimney. It was so groovy!
My hubby is five years older than me at 50, and he's pretty anti-computer. But I'm a geek from way back...when it was *really* practicing the dark arts to get anything to happen...
I'm surprised, speaking of stereotypes, at how many people in their 20s and even teens are on here! I have stepkids 15 and 19, and while they are totally amazed at what I can accomplish, it's the last thing on their list of priorities (it could also be because their home life at their mom's has been pretty much gravy train all their lives). They think I'm eccentric and quaint, but I don't think they want to follow in my footsteps. So I'm really happy to see young people carrying on the insanity!!!

this is awsome! i cant believe so many people my age! now i dont feel so left out. cant wait to tell my sisters n brothers who also call me coupon lady! and btw im 23. moms been doing this for years but she wasnt so good at it, so in the process of finding cvs printable coupons for her i stumbled upon iheartcvs.com n eventually SD! best thing that ever happened, now my mom tells me she feels like a junior shopper compared to me. all thnks to the wonderful SDeLers here for the useful imfo n scenarios!
but how do u guys manage during school time? i want to continue couponing n shopping but cant wrap my head around what ill do when school starts in 2 weeks. n everyone in my house is so dependant upon me getting them all the necessary stuff, ofcourse for free (yes, even after cracking on me)

This poll is fascinating. I am 45 and just found SD at the beginning of this year. I never paid attention to coupons, etc. Figured I was better off just shopping @ Aldi if I wanted to save money. Now I'm hooked! They are opening 5 CVS stores within 10 minutes of me and I'm in heaven.
I am surprised to see so many younger people - I wish I had been that smart 20 years ago! Of course, we didn't even have the Internets back in them days. ;-)

I'm 29, I feel like I have used coupons forever. When I was in college, I would have my roommates look at me like I was crazy when I took out the coupons. My husband claims to have never seen a coupon before he met me.
My mom taught me well when I was young and it has stuck with me. When I was a kid, my job in the family was to send away and keep track of the rebates. I learned many things, including how to write a check doing this job.

I am impressed!!!
I would have never guessed there where people under 20 CVS'ing.
I am 41 and have shopped at CVS since I was 12. I know about 30 years.
When I tell people that at CVS, they just kind of look at me, because thanks to mother nature, diet and exercise I am young 41. The fact that I am Personal Trainer helps too:)

$3.35 and hour, must be nice! At 16 I was making $3.10 and hour and moved out at 17, still making $3.10 an hour. (I am 37, couple years older than you are.)

I've been a heavy stockpiler since April 08 before that, I was limited due to no storage space in an apartment. When we bought the house, it needed 2 things. A good street for garage sales and plenty of storage... beyond that, who cares!
