There are a billion threads about guitar gamers... but this one is for us.
Favorite songs? Difficult songs? What difficulty do you play? Anyone using any pedal/drum mods? Good/bad experience w/the pads?
I ordered a megabass pedal the other day... right before I saw the new type of pedal that azuritereaction is using: http://www.rockbandpedal.net/
At the moment, I'm stuck on Police - Next To You on hard. That song is just retarded. Was previously stuck on The Reaper, but through a little practice on that last section, I got through it all.
I'll set up a wiki for some good linkage.

Latest Rock Band DLC release thread:
http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=325585&t=719741
Mods:
Full set (kinda full band too):
"Ultimate" real drum kit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84FJQvg8f0I&feature=related
Drums:
Nickel Mod (helps sensitivity):
http://youtube.com/watch?v=GtHN1YE_mYc
Pretty simple video to fix your set. It's a bit long... you can learn everything you need to know in the first 4 min (would be quicker, but he talks a lot...). Using an EL set in the vid.
Sockmod: http://rockband.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3807
Gum Pads (dampening): http://www.bryanmentock.com/Bryan%20Mentock/gumrubberdrumpads/Gum%20Rubber%20Drum%20Pads%20for%20Rock%20Band.htm l
Marshmallow Mod (dampening): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4-jH916Rb8
This mod doesn't require a lot of work/risk and is pretty effective
Rock Pan'd: http://forums.slickdeals.net/showpost.php?p=10826801&postcount=48
Our very own wizard7926 made a rather funny mod to make the cymbal hit more realistic. Here he is rocking out to "Maps" on expert: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJl8iIYJNs8
Pedal:
Destroyer Pedal: http://www.rockbandpedal.net/
This is an actual pedal replacement unit that simulates an actual drum pedal (chain and all). Azuritereaction started using this around the beginning of march.
Omega Pedal: http://www.omegapedal.com
This is an actual pedal replacement unit that simulates an actual drum pedal (chain and all). Has actual beater and is not backordered like the destroyer pedal. However, it costs a bit more.
MegaPedal: http://www.area51moto.com/mega/
Commonly used pedal reinforcement. Can often find their listings on ebay.
Warning about megapedal: http://forums.slickdeals.net/showpost.php?p=10676416&postcount=13
Software:
"Real Band": http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/17/rock-band-hack-turns-game-drums-into-real-drums-wont-improve-y/
Allows you to turn your rock band drumset into an "actual" drum set where you can assign different sounds to each control and create your own music!
Great Drummers!:
http://youtube.com/user/IBitePrettyHard - This guy is sick.. he gets FCs on tons of hard ones - Like Perfect Drug. Excellent video editing!!
http://youtube.com/user/azuritereaction - This guy is consistently great. He also edits his videos very well so you can see what he's doing while the song plays.

I know theres been alot of reliability issues with the RB guitar. How about the drums? I've been seriously thinking about picking these up(the drums that is). I got the game a couple of weeks ago from the Amazon DotD and use my GH guitar. The NIN downloadable tracks are fun to play w/ the guitar....bet they probably would be w/ the drums too.

Yes... there are reliability issues w/the drums. The red pad often "breaks" to where it loses sensitivity. The sock mod (wiki) can help prevent/deal with this issue. There are also issues with the bass pedal breaking due to the fact that it's just simple plastic. There are a lot of offerings for reinforcements, and some entire pedal replacements.
However, just like w/the guitar, repairs/RMAs are pretty straightforward.

I got some of the gum rubber drum pads (they've got a peel-off adhesive; they install in about two minutes). I've put them on and the things are noticeably quieter (with better rebound, too, I think).
They cost about $30 shipped. Website at http://www.bryanmentock.com/Bryan%20Mentock/gumrubberdrumpads/Gum%20Rubber%20Drum%20Pads%20for%20Rock%20Band.htm l

There's gotta be a DIY floating around for that so I could take my pedal off of my drumset and build one myself
Phrozt

If you find one, please add it to the wiki!!
I know that azuritereaction made one awhile back.. but I don't think he ever really used it that much, so it probably fell apart or something: http://youtube.com/watch?v=VpzhPFOaSxU
Also, if you get a chance, look at some videos of the other drum game he plays... looks ridiculous (both because there are 5 drums and because he uses a pillow as one of them...)!! Music sucks, but it's interesting to see.
As for the destroyer pedal.. I'm kind of hesitant given the fact that the creator of the pedal mentions, "adding a rip tie here might give some extra stability" within the video. So it sounds like they are totally custom rigs that may or may not stand up very well in time. I'd wait awhile till we hear if azurite still uses his (because he plays probably far more than everyone on this thread combined).

im gonna make my own pedal, if you like ill make a tutorial on how to do it and post it. i just have to get the pedal, at guitar world they sell a basic one for $25 and im gonna mod it a little and add the electronics from the rock band pedal. like i said, i can post a detailed tutorial if desired...ill probably also do a instructable...
most likely, the guy who made the destroyer did what im about to do, only with a different pedal(ive checked out every pic i could find of that pedal, and the mod really isnt worth the $60-ish) and then is charging an outrageous(IMO) fee so he can make some moneys...but i dont care about money so dont worry lol
here's a tut i found that shows u how to do it with a double bass, but the type of pedal he used is expensive(as in, more then the destroyer pedal lol) and u have to get a practice bass pad, which makes it cost way more than my method/idea... http://rockband.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2226

Let it be known... super glue is required for the mega pedal mod.
Since it doesn't come w/rubber bumpers or a magnet, you have to rip the bumpers and magnet off your existing pedal. I tried a lot of different ways, but I actually had to tear apart the little cup that held the magnet to get it out... so this is definitely not a reversible process!!
I haven't finished it because I need to get some super glue, but hopefully it kicks ass... because if not I'm out a pedal.
EDIT: Well, I grabbed some "Sport and Outdoor" goop (though Automotive goop was also recommended) and glued everything together. Let the glue set in for about 3-4 hours (just to be safe), installed the rest of the pedal, and went on my merry drumming way! Works great!.
But again, my original RB pedal is done... so keep that in mind.

That's cool and GL w/that. You live in IL do you? Whereabouts?
Also.. how much did it cost to get started on real drums eh? I've always wanted to play drums and I figured this would be a pretty inexpensive way to start and get at least some training down (basic rhythms, used to using hands + feet, etc).

Ok.. I finally got through The Police - Next to You... which was an ungodly pain in the ass, but now I'm stuck on run to the hills.
I've seen run to the hills done on expert and I'm pretty sure the one on hard is WAY harder because of how they split the runs up to make it "easier."
Also, if you play on Hard mode, PICK UP THE DAMN BOSTON PACK!!!!!!!!!! OMG that pack kicks ass for drummers!! It has so many feel good runs it's unbelievable! Only song I wasn't too keen on is "Smokin." Other than that, all the other ones are probably at least 3x as fun as Longtime, and that's one of my favorites.

I FINALLY beat Run to the Hills on Hard drums yesterday and Foreplay on expert the day before, 2 of my biggest roadblocks. I highly doubt expert is easier than hard. I don't think I'll ever beat RttH, I just don't have the speed consistently. Now I'm stuck on Don't Fear the Reaper on Expert, that song is crazy.
One idea I saw to reduce noise was using mousepads on your drum heads. It actually works quite well. Instead of doing the sock mod with socks, just get some cheap mousepads, cut out circles and rubber band them to your set. That way you have sound dampening/rebound and increased sensitivity.
I'm also really interesting in making my own custom bass pedal, but I probably will be too lazy and want to get an Omega or Destroyer pedal. A bit pricey though.

I could never get past the part where you have to hit your drumsticks together at the start. I keep laughing until I fail.

That's essentially what the gum rubber pads that I got (and sell for $30, link in wikipost) are. Except that they come with adhesive backing so you don't need rubber bands.

You know... before I get into any costly upgrades to the pads, I think I'll just still to DIY cheapo techniques and wait for a third party drum set to come out that's better. In all honesty, though incredibly functional, the pads also have a lot of pitfalls and would benefit quite a bit from an overall redesign.
I can't imagine doing The Reaper on expert... I barely squeezed by on hard. The majority of the song is easy as hell, but there are those certain parts that are hard as hell and long enough that you'll fail out.
You have any DLC flashbang?

Yeah I have about 25 DLC, phrozty. So I finally beat that song and was doing the last tier, Next to You on expert has to be one of the most tiring songs in the game. Barely squeezed by on that one. I just have to do RttH to beat the game but I'm not going to do it anytime soon, I doubt my pads would register anyway.
And the gum rubber pads are just for protection/noise/rebound, I don't believe they increase your sensitivity by themselves And the rubber bands are not there just to hold down the mousepads on my ghetto rig, they are there to put more force on the sensors and increase sensivity. If you have a stock QM drumset and you can do the roll in the Train kept a rollin with your gum rubber pads then I will buy them instantly.

Actually, the gum rubber DOES increase sensitivity on its own. Since it increases rebound, it requires less force to push down the pad, and the gum absorbs the hit and transfers it through the pad more effortlessly than slamming on the plastic does. It's basically the same as the sock mod -- I was pretty skeptical, but then I started nailing the opening riffs of Flirtin' With Disaster and Foreplay, and I became a believer.
As a side note, what the crap does QM mean? I've been trying to figure it out..

There are a few model numbers of the drums out. QM, EL, and SL I believe. You can find the model number on the bottom of the keypad on the drums. The QMs are notorious for having really bad red pads that don't pick rolls. Sock Mod helps out a bit but it still drops notes on my rolls so it's hard to keep a combo.

It was a few weeks ago in the Newegg open box deal. So freaking happy I got in on that.
I've been trying out using cut mousepads as both sound dampeners and for increased sensitivity. It works great for things like the roll in All The Small Things and Train Kept Rollin'.
I don't think I'll ever beat Run.

Well one of my pads (yellow) just died last night. Only had them for maybe a month. Didnt even get that much use at of them either. Checked but couldnt find the model on it. I found the model number but its an actual number.
Just sent a request for a RMA.
Got the drums separate from Amazon if anyone wants to know.

Model # is the last two letters of the serial number on the bottom of the drums keypad area.
Should be QM or EL.

I can only play med on all songs & hard on some :( I need more practice I guess.
one thing I just can't get is the wicked fast beats (4 per measure?)the notes that basically touch each other as they come down. I've tried two hands, one hand, and I cant' consistently hit them.

Azurite did some talking on one of his comments threads (I couldn't even begin to look to find which one...) about the difference in the pads, but he made a reference to a thread on scorehero, so I bet if you did a search there you would find something.
para, if you see a run, you should be using two hands. One common mistake is to hit them too fast. Something I do (that's probably wrong, but works), is to try to count (out of the corner of my eye) how many bars are coming up: 2, 3, 4, 5, or lots. When I get a number, I try to make my hands hit at a *STEADY* beat to get that number w/in the time it would usually take me to play however many single notes.
i.e. if it's like, tap tap tap tap (1, 2, 3, 4) and I see 4 notes coming up in half that time, I know I need to go taptaptaptap tap tap (1 and 2 and 3, 4), instead of freaking out and going AHHH TATAPTPAPTAPTPAPPAPPTPAPTPATAPAPT tap tap.
Know what I'm saying? You could always try doing some of the songs in practice, starting slow, then building up speed... and I'm sure you'll get the rhythm down for doing rolls.

Also, start all your runs with your right hand, well at least this works for 95% of songs because they usually will end on another downbeat which is another right hand strike. However, In Bloom expert you start with your left. If you up to a decent challenge, practice Orange Crush on expert to get the timing of a constant stream of notes down. Each one will start with your right hand. The opening of Run to the hills on hard or expert is also good practice.

Honestly, the boston pack great for drum rolls. I can't think of the song, but there's one that has quite a few drum rolls in it. I know it's not "More Than a Feeling" or "Smokin" but I don't know about the others.
You know that expert - Run to the Hills has a TON of rolling, but those kind of rolls aren't really the kind you'd run into on your average song. Also, there's a couple long rolls in "Gimme Shelter"

One of the best is on "Train Kept Rollin'", by Aerosmith. Head into practice mode and turn the speed down, then select the section marked "drum roll". Since it's very fast to start, you can fiddle around with tons of different speeds below that.
Other rolls are the bridge in All The Small Things (though you'd have to buy), Foreplay/Long Time intro, most of Orange Crush, and a whole bunch more.

I'm retarded.. I meant "Train Kept Rollin" instead of "Gimme Shelter"
And yeah, Foreplay/longtime is a good one for rolls at the intro, but if you do it on expert, it's also got some really good short-roll-to-cymbal rolls which are all over various songs.
Boston just kicks ass for a good drumming experience :)
EDITed for details:
- "Peace of Mind" has a lot of rolls: http://youtube.com/watch?v=UPAxWN4-9Jw
- "Something About You" has a lot of snare (red drum) rolls: http://youtube.com/watch?v=jfxGXVnXubg You'll probably want to do it on hard
- "Rock and Roll band" has some good rolls, but has a LOT of left handed (only) cymbal triplets which is not something that you'd find in a lot of songs, but might be interesting to try to get your timing down: http://youtube.com/watch?v=jfxGXVnXubg
- "Hitch a Ride" has a lot of small rolls that should give you good practice: http://youtube.com/watch?v=DcNCYxz2jH8 There are also rolls at different speeds. There are some easy 8th note rolls and some harder 16th note rolls.

Yeah I think all the good players use some sort of custom pedal. I'll give a mini review of mine once I get all the parts. It cost me $53 or so so it's about $35 cheaper than the Omega, but hopefully I can get it to function the same or even better.
Leaderboards keep track of solo scores for each song and career scores as well as online tug of war and score duel skill rankings. You don't have play online for the leaderboards to keep track of your single player scores, well, except in the sense that you're online for the score to upload to the server.
There's a few other alternatives to modding your pads with gum rubber or mousepads, and it is to get a few inches of foam weatherstripping and securing them to your drumstick heads with tape. They increase rebound and decrease noise mostly. I've heard good things about that mod but I don't want my drumsticks looking silly like that, and I'm happy with my mouse pads.
Oh yeah, I'm down just to play through songs on tug of war/score duel, band quickplay, whatever, I have about 25 DLC too. Message me at shockwave827 on the 360 if you want to play sometime.

Actually, for now.. I've been cutting up old mousepads and flipping them over to show black.
It's been steadily improving my rolls, I'm currently trying to decide between thicker and thinner material as to which is better for rolling.
And I just made possibly the most ridiculous drum mod ever.. pics to come.

what did you do?
Well, since the Green pad on the far right represents the crash cymbal, I thought to myself, what could I do to make this more realistic? -- also, it happened to be the only pad I hadn't yet found a mousepad for -- see the pics for my other drumheads, too. Anyway, I decided to take one of my failed foamboard pads and use it to secure something more.. metal and tangible.
So, I give you: Rock Pan'd.
It actually works, too -- surprisingly better than I would've thought! I think it's probably about a 6" stainless pot lid, and the foamboard fills the void between the pan and the rim and holds it relatively secure. I'm stoked :) Anyway, I'm probably gonna upload some videos of this baby in action probably tomorrow, if anyone's interested!

wiz, that's freaking hilarious. I'd be a little worried about the weight on those plastic supports though. I've already had to replace one set of drums not only due to the red pad sensitivity, but also because I was just playing a random song and actually *broke* the arm connecting the green pad to the rest of the system. Didn't crack all the way through, but it was a bit floppy till I got my replacement.

Yeah, that sounds plausible, but it's not terrible and I know better than to come completely crashing down on it.. but, with EA's generous return policy, I can tell them it's their fault! :)

They do have short "freestyle" passages where you can fill in wherever you want. But for the most part, no, you have to do as your told. I don't play drums myself, but it seems that real drummers pick up the game effortlessly as it's supposed to parallel the experience fairly well.

you should just get the game if your name is really correct. If you have an afro and are part black, you will naturally have rhythm. If you are part "azn", you will naturally kick ass at any game like this. Together, the combination is deadly. I expect to see you at the top of the leaderboards in a week.

I have the sensors and the wire to go into the set and tested it and so far that worked. I'll let everyone know how it is. I bought the same pedal that is used in the Omega pedal (Pearl P-120) on ebay for 40 and the other parts total are about 12 bucks. Hopefully I get it working well and I can improve my scores.

I finally got my custom bass pedal put together after it was sitting at the post office for 2 weeks. It's a Pearl P120P, the same they use on the omega pedal and it works awesome. Very smooth and really accurate and you can adjust the spring tension to your liking. It would really improve my playing if my drums didn't crap out on me.
So, I just received my RMA after my QM set cracked. I got an EL set. To be honest, this set is total shit. I don't know if all ELs are like this, but you really have to pound on this thing for it to register anything, and you can only hit it in a 3 inch diameter circle in the sweet spot or else the damn thing doesn't register notes. I think i'm going to send this one right back, even my broken QM is better.

I've finished all of medium and hard and I'm around halfway through expert. Not really sure if I'll make it all the way through expert or not. I had previous experience playing the drums and this game felt like a natural transition. Since I live in an apartment, it's the closest thing to drumming that won't make my neighbors homicidal.

On expert, does anyone else feel like they overdo the bass pedal on some songs? I played drums for a while and I don't recall a lot of songs where you play eighth notes for the whole damn song on the bass drum, but several songs have done just that. Epic on expert seems to have you play the bass guitar part on the bass pedal, which seems excessive. Dunno, maybe it's just me.

Threadcromancy!!!! Actually, I do have something to say aboot RB drums.
Went to BB to kill about 15 minutes while waiting on a friend and decided to do the whole "hey, everyone in the store, watch how good I am" thing and noticed that they had the foam pads on the RB pads. One of them completely fell off, but that's not too surprising I suppose.
Anyway, I talked to an employee and acted all interested in the pads and asked him to fix it so I could try it out. So.... he goes to where it is on the shelf and says, "here are the pads so you can see them." I'm like, "uhh yeah, I've seen them.... but I want to *try* them. Can you fix this?" After a bit of talking to get him to understand an incredibly mundane request, and he finally completed the ritual of summoning someone who knows what "tape" is and where it can be found, the pads were fixed (read: "properly ghetto-rigged")
I knew that the yellow pad was going to suck because it was taped on... but in truth, I wasn't really a fan of the pads that were working either. Given the new RB2 heads, they weren't really quieter than a stock set, and I definitely felt depressions in the center of the pad due to the fact that the edges of the new pads rested on top of the rims of the old pads.
I don't know if anyone else has tried them, or if anyone is/was even interested in them, but I wasn't impressed at all and wouldn't recommend them. I don't really see any benefit in buying them.

I've put in quite a few hours on my friend's set, and they aren't too bad, but it's definitely visible. I can't really say that it's affected my playing at all, but the fact that it's already so visible bothers me and seems to suggest the idea that it *could* get to the point where it actually interferes w/playing.

It *will* get to the point where it affects your playing, especially since I know that you're an expert player and will be doing snare rolls for many songs. I have a fix! My red pad started to bubble, and after a failed attempt with EA to get them to send me drum skins on the house, I fashioned my own solution with a hard-top mousepad. I bought a pad that had a hard plastic top -- thin enough to be flexible but rigid enough to stay flat -- and cut a circle out large enough to fit completely underneath the silver head guard of the snare.
Google an explanation for how to remove the pad from the unit (kid gloves!) and the silver ring -- it's really simple, actually -- and then, after cutting slits in the now-circular mousepad so it fits tight to the screws, place the mousepad on the snare head, hard side down, and then reattach the silver ring to the pad, and replace it into the unit. The result -- increased rebound, and no possibility of advanced bubbling! :) I'm planning on eventually doing this to my entire set, but have only done it to the snare so far.
I really have to post a thread about my modded set, and I still have to write that review about the cymbal add-on kit, yikes. I've done about four or five mods to my kit that make it 1) easier to play and 2) less prone to damage, all for a total of about $10-15. I'll hopefully get that up tomorrow in between dominating in March Madness! :D

Wiz... sounds good. I've been debating what to do w/my setup because my son likes to pound on the pads from time to time. He cracked my yellow pad, but I can still play w/it pretty well, so no biggie. I was thinking I might pick up an RB2 set and just let him pound on my old set, but from the sounds of your fix, I could probably fix up my old set and he'd still be able to pound on it.

Actually, I thought the GH:WT drumset was quieter out of the box, with the rubber heads and all.. but I guess I could be wrong. Some of my mods include mousepads stuck on the drumheads and also on the cymbals, and then sticking rubber tube on the ends of the drumsticks to make them even quieter as well. Stay tuned for my RB kit mods thread, it should give you some good advice. I'll try and cover some things that I think could probably help your set.

Yeah... not really. Thrasher/hardcore metal music just isn't fun to play IMO. That's exactly my point. There are plenty of "easier" songs that are still very hard, but they're actually *fun* to play. What's the point of playing something with so many notes/bars/wtfever that it looks like a pile of crap... just to say, "hey this is really hard"

Then again, I do have a decent amount of DLC that I really really like (yay boston pack!!)

That's exactly my point. There are plenty of "easier" songs that are still very hard, but they're actually *fun* to play. What's the point of playing something with so many notes/bars/wtfever that it looks like a pile of crap... just to say, "hey this is really hard"
Stuff like the intro to This Calling by All That Remains is just stupid.

well fwiw, guitar hero metallica has a demo out on XBLive now....Little over a gig, gold subscribers only can DL now, and includes 4 songs....Sad but True, Seek and Destroy, No Excusses by Alice in Chains, and Stone Cold Crazy by Queen......

I just tried the GHWT drums this weekend for the first time. Its fun using the raised cymbals but I felt like the sensitivity on the pads was absolute shit. Of course I don't play on a default RB kit anymore either...

So is anyone else as pissed as I am that the great drummers of youtube have either been taken down or have had their videos dubbed over with some other type of music to avoid being taken down??

Well after having time to play RB/RB2 and GHWT I don't agree the GHWT has a better track list over RB2 sure there are a few Ozzy tracks a Van Halen track and a Eagles track but there is a ton of absolute crap on the GHWT main CD. At least when it comes to the unknown artists on RB2 I have grown ot like most of the songs. With that RB2 has an insane amount of DLC (I own about 80% of it) making the RB2 experiance way more fun with friends and family.
Then came GHWT Metallica and wow from a drummers stand point (and old school metal head) I can't stop playing this game. Sure the tracks are wall to wall insanity as you would expect but the part that impressed me the most is they took the good parts of GHWT and improved on it such as the way the story line progresses, the Metallica stuff (you can be your favorite band member, look up history based on each song or even play with the same instruments as the band uses). Sure it might not be that big of a deal if you are not into metal so maybe I am making a bigger deal about this that what some would think but I think all in all this was one of my favorite disks to date. One flaw in the game you cannot add the GHWT tracks with the GHWT Metallica disk like you can with RB/RB2/RB AC-DC (the forgotten disk that has rocking jams but lacked everything that the Metallica disk has...in other words the put no thought into the disk at all).
BTW: If you have GHWT and you are a drummer I reccomend getting the DLC of the Travis Barker remix of Low it is a great drum workout.

I love drumming :-)
I started out playing guitar hero and have played 1-3 and loved them. When RB1 came out, I was excited to play and it went downhill from there, almost to an addiction.
I started playing the drums a few months back, and i'm hooked playing everything on hard. Finally beat Painkiller.
I think my favorite drumming song is Almost Easy by Avenged Sevenfold. It's a great song, and the beat is fantastic. Some tricky little sections towards the end when you're hammering down 8th note bass, but by the end, i've broken a sweat :-P
Maps, by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs has to be my least favorite... and only because I have a leg cramp by the time it's over.

I think my least favorite song on RB2 to drum to is We Got the Beat with my favorite being Battery (Pain Killer is hard only for the first 15 to 20 seconds)

Ouch, is the drumset cheaply made then? also you said your first replacement pedal... does that mean you've had to replace it more then once?

the first pedal for advanced drumers is very week and breaks. Today there are tons of after market fixes for this problem for very little money. Being that you are not going to be jumping right up to the hard level you should be fine unless your very heavy footed.

My first rockband drum kit is the only that did not have issues and I used it to 5 star all songs on hard (except for run to the hills and next to you - 3 stars) and most songs on expert.
My RB 2 kit would not connect with the dongle so it was RMA'd.
My GHWT red pad crapped out and needed to be RMA'd as well.

Well you need to keep in mind that these are just toys and drumming will eventually destroy them. Once you get in the range of hard/expert thos drums are taking so many hits things like sensors just go out. Even the Drum Rocker with it's $300 price tag will start to fail after a certain amount of abuse (as in playing). I have gone through 2 RB kits and have had two pads fail on me with the Drum Rocker so far along with 4 kick pedals, it is just going to happen.

Ended up getting to play for a hour or so last night. I could really see myself getting into it and so far I like the song selections, and its a little tougher then I was expecting but I still managed to 4 star the first 4 songs.
Also I haven't tried it yet, but has anyone ever just played the drums like a bongo instead? Its probably impossible on the harder levels but I thought it might be fun to try on a easy level.

Actually, I did that on a demo booth in Walmart that didn't have drumsticks available. I wanted to play Everlong but the only option was my hands, so I just bongo'd it out on expert, and I found that it was actually easier than with drumsticks!

Recently, I got the GH World Tour Band Kit for PS3 for 99.78$. I also bought GH World Tour PS3 from Newegg for 25$. I also bought GH Les Paul Guitar for 20$.
Yesterday, I bought Rock Band Special Edition for PS3 for 35$ at Target. I also have GHWT Band Kit for Xbox360 for 80$ ( I can sell game for atleast 25$ and keep the hardware for 55$).
I haven't opened any of these.
Based on some of the reviews online, it appears the GHWT hardware is better than RB2 hardware. I also read that the difference between RB1 and RB2 hardware is very less (wireless drum and other minor improvements). I also read that it is better to stick with the hardware whose game (RB or GH) one is going to play a lot. I also read Les Paul is the best guitar.
The cheapest option for me to try RB 1 and GHWT game by using RB1 hardware. Total 60$. When RB2 game price comes down, I can buy it.
Else, I can keep GHWT hardware and GHWT game for 80$ and wait for RB2 for its price to come down.
Which hardware to keep ?? GHWT hardware or RB1 hardware or Les Paul Guitar ????? Any help is appreciated.

I would say IMO the GHWT is better all around though I am not a fan of the GHWT drum kit. The guitar that came with GHWT is far superior to the RB wired controller (even the GH3 gibson is a better build). Now it looks like you are a deal finder I would suggest if you end up a drummer in the games look for a deal on the Drum Rocker kit because it is light years ahead of all of the other kits being offered thus far (I have seen no deals thus far on the kit and paid more money for the kit alone than you have invested thus far on everything lol).
Enjoy the games they both have hight and low points but you have endless hours of fun to look forward to.

Guitar wise, the choice is whether you like the strum click or not to determine which guitar to keep.
If you are drummer though, I think the choice should be RB2 kit. RB one kit is louder w/ a plastic pedal. I really disliked the GHWT kit.

He asked based on what he currently owned RB1 and GHWT. If I had the choice between the RB1, RB2 and GHWT kits I pick the RB2 set (as long as I got the cymbols) hands down because it is a better build by far.

ScoreHero (http://rockband.yajags.com/cutoffs/?drums=expert&bass=none&guitar=none&vocals=none) says that the cutoff is 135,672 and I got 135,700! :D :D

I have it.
Here's my review: it's hard to use and not really worth it for RB2 since you don't get extra notes. It's very flimsy and required the use of my PS2 drum stand as extra cymbal stands because it would fall off over and over. So now I have this huge drum kit made out of 2 drum sets.
I don't think I got it to work properly with GH:WT. I'll ask my roommate since he plays the drums more than I do but I don't recall it working.

I guess I'll give a gung-ho short review then, since I haven't had any issues whatsoever about the flimsy-ness. Short version:
PROS:
(Much?) more realistic drumming simulation.
Less fatigue when lead arm is held higher.
Less awkward during some difficult hat runs.
Adjustable rebound via tightening or loosening screw. Crash can crash, hat can be held still..
Adjustable positioning to a degree. Can have yellow and blue together, or blue and green.
Good, not great, response.
Overall quite sturdy if everything is fastened correctly.
Make nifty (and correct) cymbal noises during freestyles and in training :)
Just damn fun to wail on cymbals, esp if you have them adequately protected. Can take a pounding, so far (knock on wood).
Not hard to use, IMO.. but I play on expert so the feeling is natural for me as I drum in RL. I could definitely see people having trouble with these as tru is.
CONS:
Nearly impossible to do cymbal rolls -- need to use tom pads for cymbal rolls.
Impressionable rubber hit zone shows wear a bit. I use rubber padding on top to combat this.
Can cause problems if drumstick should snag on underside of cymbal, esp yellow.
Some missed notes if cymbal is not hit hard enough. I know that if I'm going for a full combo or high score or tough passage, I don't completely trust them, so I go toms when I really need to hit notes.
A bit pricey for the 3-pc set, but I've certainly gotten my money's worth.
All this talk about modding REALLY makes me want to buy GoodWoods. WANT.

I'm a total newb but enjoy the drums more than the guitar. Still working through the first RB with my corded RB1 set. The pads aren't responsive enough IMO as I know I hit them and occassionally get missed notes or they respond late.
I've got a 50% off credit for Amazon I have to use yet this month. I'm thinking about ordering the RB Beatles Special Edition. Anyone know if the drum kit is improved over the RB1 kit? Worth the money? My 3 year old is getting to the point she'll be playing the guitar soon.... ;)

Well, it's either the RB2 kit, or a different set altogether, so either way, it'll definitely be better than the stock RB1 kit.
