Hello All,

I have a new Wii and was wondering - Why would a user want a mod chip? What are the benifits?

Thank you in advance for your time !!

Most people use it to play illegally downloaded games or illegal copes of games.

While the legal users either plays homebrew or purchased imported games(in the minor)

and don't forget to play backed up games to keep the original as pristine as possible.

Yes unopen shrink wrap games while you play downloaded version game. :P 10 years later you sell the game in mint new condition for 10x the profit. :P

Seriously how many people actual "backup" their games and play their "backup" games as they claim. I doubt many people have backup Microsoft disc and use backup disc even though legally you are allow to.

Do people follow the rule of destroying their backup once they sold the game?

Can't say off the top of my head but if I wasn't afraid of bricking my 60gb PS3 since they're no longer in production, I would do it and run a backup of rock band.

It depends on the chipset your Wii's drive has.

You can use this site: http://wiitracker.nintendo-scene.com/search.php

To get a general idea of what is inside your wii. Personally, mine has the newer D2C chipset so I would have to get one of the D2C chips. D2Pro (9 wire) would be the newest out. Or get the WiilKey if you have the older chips.

I have the D2C chipset too. I'm between the Argon, Wasabi or the D2Pro. I can't find an answer as to which one to get or features/advantages and disadvantages of each of those.
I would get a Wii-Clip too.. I can't solder those little IC legs for the life of me.. They are too close together..

Any way of using trainers for the games when your wii is modded? This is what I really like about the org xbox mods and the media center.

with what chip? PS3 hasn't been chipped yet...unless you're saying the swap magic hardware mod to play the PS2 backup.

There is a soft mod but I believe 2.30 might have killed the release that was made shortly there after 2.20.

If you're buying a PS3, you should have enough money to actually buy PS2 games that you really want to play. I can't imagine somebody risking any damage to their PS3 just to play their old backups. Even new PS2 games don't go over $40 these days.

don't go with wii key if you're looking for one now, mainly because its basically hit or miss on updates. And you need updates for every new big wii title.

Argon :)

Did you use a Wii-Clip? Have you had to upgrade it yet? If so, did you use the USB programmer thing where you connect the computer to the little Jtag cable on the chip?
Can you play all regions? Where did you buy it and how much did it cost?

Thanks :D (Hope those weren't overwhelming!) lol..

for most of this items, you can find the on-line shop for this.

some of them are cheap.

currently the argon i found is 39.49 USD.

Nope,Soldered and I went with a dealer on the infectus site.BUY a clip if u cant solder. I was sweating bullets even with the pad install LOL

No interest in all regions, too easy to brick the wii plus I only play what I can legally own since that would be wrong to play something I dont LOL

I have som experience with wii modding. Anyway there are a few modchip you can use for D2C drive but first you must make sure you're wii is MODABLE because nintendo came out with new wiis that can't be mod yet. When did you get your wii? and what your serial number? If yo ucan best options are D2pro9, D2Ckey, Argon. The wii clip basically reduce the soldering work of soldering wires on tiny legs of d2cchip which prevent you from bridging it. You will only have to solder the chip on the clip which is VERY SIMPLE. or buy it presolder for few more bucks. D2Pro9 seen to be really hot right now because it's new release. If you can wait there is a new version of D2Ckey coming out and D2Ckey has been working solid for me.

I can't beleive how much panic there was on the D2CKey's with SMG and SSBB, considering it couldn't be updated (althought I still think, to this day, the jtag/pogo pins on the bottom of the chip are there for a purpose)

On the other hand, i'm still amazed at how neatly it sat in the middle of the board (well , if you put it there). Alot of the ps2 mods I did didn't have such a convenient little place.

Still goin strong strong (legit copies of SSMB, WiIFit, "backups" of SMG, although if It breaks down i'll have to go in there and retouch x-z, since I know those were my trouble spots.

its going to be ( x / 10 ) the profit.
10 years, no one would play Wii and I think everyone would have a mod chip by then.

I bought my wii when it first came out, so the pins are not cut.
Which chip would you guys recommend?
thanks

officially theyre called drivechips not modchips since they dont mod the firmware.
anyway I have the openwii, it works very well and since it's open source, it gets updated when needed, like when SSBB came out.

wat is a clip? just clip on no solder required?

take a look at this link: http://www.volumerate.com/detail.vr/sku.60201

just solder the chip with the clip, then install on the wii will be fine.
