You used to play videogames all night. Your Quake prowess was unmatched; your skills at Command & Conquer unparalleled. You have a gaming history that stretches back beyond the PlayStation generation to the SNES, Megadrive, Amiga and ZX Spectrum. You were there at the dawn of gaming.
Tick-tock... Time passes. You've quietly come to realise that you're not the hard-core gamer you used to be. Even your Xbox 360 Gamertag seems far too 'sensible'. How do you know that a mid-life gaming crisis is setting in? Watch out for these warning signs...
* You prefer playing against the computer
* You only play when your girlfriend is out
* You believe that winning isn't everything
* It's been days, not hours since you last switched on your console
* You're the oldest person trading in games at GameStation
* You like your Xbox 360 and your PS3 equally
* You fondly remember a 'golden age' of gaming
* You avoid playing on the Wii because it's too much effort
* Your FPS experience consists of spawn, run, die... spawn, run, die... spawn...
* You find the idea of videogames based on board games perfectly acceptable
* You've pre-ordered GTA IV but don't mind if it doesn't turn up on launch day

Hmmmm, I fit every single one of those descriptions. Might as well add "*Your name is Jhaan" to the list.

I meet a few of those. I'd venture to say that the above list is more of a reason that you're no longer a fanboy. Seriously, most of those really seem to be more like symptoms of having a life, and I guess if having friends isn't "hardcore", then I'd rather have the friends.
It seems to me like some people have way too much time and effort spent on arguing over consoles/ games, and can't just play them, and judge a system on it's own merits. What's good for you isn't good for everyone, and many gamers have different preferences, which do not line up with "hardcore" gamers.
That being said, how is the SNES era not the best age of gaming we've had so far?

phhhh don't you mean the Genesis era :harhar: ?
I just dont have the time with so many good games that came out to even catch up!
I still havent gotten to beat ZeldaTP that i got on launch!
My 2 Halo3's are shrinkwrapped! I havent gotten to touch Metroid or SMG!
I bought Mario Kart and played 4 levels with my wife and the baby cried game session done.
Im heading on my lunch break to pick up GTA4.
Good thing is I just finished my MBA so I will have a little more free time to catch up!

I almost meet the run die spawn one, almost because I'm smart enough to waste my 'nades before I die :harhar: :whee:
I would say though, that in order to apply that to MMORPG's, you stop forget the name of your characters.

Man, you're right. The genesis was the better system.
Everyone knows they could hold more data on their cartridges, a lot more. It has much better graphics, and the games were all much more violent. The Genesis had blood, and you could shoot people in more games. Plus, what the hell was Nintendo thinking, who needs 4 buttons on a controller? Everyone knows 3 is really pushing it, we'll never need anything else.
I don't think this "Nintendo" company will ever recover from their "gimped", "kiddy" SNES, every adult wants a Genesis. Sega has got it made!

Same here. I'm at least smart enough to chuck my 3 frags when I respawn. Then sprint out in the open to a quick death. Well, assuming one of my frags doesn't bounce off the wall and kill me first.

Welp, all are pretty close to being true for me, except for the last one. I will go and get GTAIV today and if gamestop doesnt have my pre-ordered copy ready, I will shoot someone. Today is Launch Day, and I want that damn game. Too bad I'm a bitch and agreed to watch american idol at 8 on the big screen tv. Oh well, I guess that's another line you could add to that list: "- Agrees to watch gay show for an hour with gf instead of playing the most anticipated and best selling game in the history of video gaming"

I think I realized that I'm no longer hardcore when I noticed that my PC wasn't beefy enough to run Crysis and I didn't care.
And IMO, the late 90's PC Games were the best era. Quake, Half-Life, StarCraft, Diablo, etc.

Dude... how can you possibly leave Deus Ex off your list??
It's your freaking avatar!
There never was, nor will there ever be a better game than the original DE.
I'm still excited for DE3 even though I know it'll be much closer to DE2:IW than to the original.

Look at it this way, watching a craptacular show will earn you points towards getting laid while playing GTAIV gets you points towards sleeping on the couch. :whee:

I thought I wasn't a hardcore gamer anymore since the last item on the list applied to me. I pre-ordered GTA4 and didn't mind it coming a couple days later... BUT... I just went out today and got it... Back in the game! HA! :)

Any points earned are likely to be offset by the fact that I'll be playing GTA from 6-8pm and 9-10pm tonight. And again on Wed, and most of Thursday and the majority of this weekend and so on...
It's too bad because she was happy I finally kicked my COD4 addiction, but I hope she knows that GTA is a much longer game and will consume much more of my time than COD4 ever did.

You guys seriously let your gf get in the way of your gaming? Just give her something else to do while you play. That should help.

There isn't a forehead-smacking smiley big enough for how bad that was. How could I forget DE?!? Doh!

Duke3D was great multiplayer, but it didn't have very good online gameplay except through goofy TEN. Now, I've heard rumors that they will re-release Duke3D as an XBox Live game with full online play. If so, I just might pee my pants with joy.
IMHO, The best multiplayer experience was QuakeWorld.

Yeah I never played DN3D online, just with friends on multiplayer.
For me the best online experience was with the original CounterStrike.

Before the Duke, there was id's Doom 2.
I still do Doom 2 deathmatches with my 2 brothers - it's the only way I can keep some kind of parity in the kill ratio. (I like UT, but I suck at it compared to my brothers - but winning isn't everything...)
Ugh, I'm old... where'd I put my tea... time for a nap...:sleepy:

haha.....I own all 3 consoles and I knew I was no longer a hardcore gamer. The following apply to me:
* You only play when the wife is out or if she's busy or if she doesnt mind me squeezing in an hour or two here and there.
* You believe that winning isn't everything
* You like your Xbox 360 and your PS3 equally
* You fondly remember a 'golden age' of gaming

I use my PS3 console 90% of the time watching rented BD movies.

Ugh, I'm old... where'd I put my tea... time for a nap...:sleepy:Eh, the game I had went to after my CS phase was UT but I often felt it was just too easy as nearly every server I was playing was giving me head shots off of people.
