I am new to slickdeals... about two months now. I have only put up 2 threads (three now) one was the famous axim one and the other was for e b a t e s . c o m. I did the second one this am. However it was removed. Why? I just try to post useful stuff here.

Perhaps slickdeals.net feels that e b a t e s. com is a competitor? In the now-deleted thread, I noted that this bulletin board replaces e b a t e s with slickdeals. I wonder if the same is true of some other competitors?

Yeah, this is funny because I saw the now deleted post this morning. And told my boyfriend about the whole (um) e-word thing and now it seems we've found another replaceable word... There are hundreds of sites like slickdeals, But I like slickdeals the best, not only because they have the awesome deals in here, but also the people in it.

Same here... out of all the sites that I just found, I have no real inclination to visit any of them, as I spend enough time here :)

I do think it's pretty cheesy to do server rewrites or use vBB's admin (if there's a setting available) to rewrite text posted in the forums, just because it points to a competitor. If that's what SD is doing, that is...

The thing is though why would it be "just because it points to a competitor" - how would they be competitors? For members? Or for some sort of reimbursement from the companies that get there deals listed here often - such as Amazon?

How would they be competitors? Because they all compete for visitors in order to pay for their ad-based sites.

Maybe there's another reason... I'm just a cynic :D

have you read the discussion pages at ben's? they are so rude or as another post put it snippy . the people at slickdeals are really nice with a few exception and are most like me, good people who hate paying full price for anything :D.

but I still don't understand... e bate s is not competing with slickdeals. You find the deal on slickdeals then go to urlhasbeenblocked to buy for even more savings. E b ates really is not a deal site... just a way to save money. The only thing that i can think of is that slickdeals is getting the money for referrals when people jump from here to the sellers website. So if people go to e ba tes then buy, slickdeals lose money... possibly alot of it at that.

1. Try posting slickdeals on the other sites that are censored here. Notice that you can't? I think most of you will understand why competitors aren't allowed here.

2. e b a t e threads will always degenerate into referral spam and the same thing happened to that thread. One of the link posted was (promotion_code=REF1&eeid=13840&banner=9710&referrer=umcsom@hotmail.com&refpageid=1)

It is the same reason why merchants are not allowed to post their own deals.

Oh without a doubt the added benefit of referrals was nice, but I still think it is a good site. would it have been brought down if I would have just directed them to ww w.e b at es .c om? Also by going through that link it gave the person a dollar signing bonus which you don't get if you go directly. I am not trying to be difficult I just don't understand how e ba tes is competition, and why we don't share that information. 2-3% on a several hundred dollar computer or airplane ticket is actually not bad for not having to really do anything. At heart we are all cheap as shit and want to save money.... so why not let people know about this site?
