Anyway, I know I'm getting this game whenever they do finally release it. I'm ready for some more survival horror.

Not phased by a competitive market or even a delay, Infogrames has high expectations for their eerie Alone in the Dark and is hoping to stuff their pockets full of cashola come its release.
Infogrames head honcho David Gardners told Reuters that they expect Alone in the Dark to sell two to three million copies, ultimately making it a profitable venture. "We want to stop losing money," said Gardners and that the "number one goal is to get a business plan together that gets us to a break-even level." Which, we must admit, is quite the solid goal. Hopefully, Infogrames can release an enjoyable Alone in the Dark experience and somehow move a massive amount of copies through retail. Selling three million video games is no easy task.

Alone in the Dark 5 is going to be a Horror Survival game, rather than a horror puzzle game like the very first one. It takes a lot of elements from Resident Evil 4 and you can use almost any object in the game as a weapon/torch/trap/battering ram. It looks pretty damn cool and I will definitely be picking it up.

Atari has the right idea when it comes to limited editions, as the Alone in the Dark limited edition package above boasts a plethora of goodies for the fan. If you're having trouble making out all of the things in the box above, here's a bulleted list for easy consumption:
* Edward Carnby figurine
* official soundtrack
* art book
* making-of documentary
* the custom box it all comes in
We know some of you aren't all that excited about Atari's upcoming game, but for those of you still looking to find out what's going down in Central Park, will you be picking up this limited edition bundle?

With the first footage we've seen of the Wii's Alone in the Dark in action, the game's producer, Maxime Loppin, shows off the title to JeuxFrance. To be honest, we know next to nothing of what Monsieur Loppin is saying, but sometimes actions speak louder than words.
After the break we've embedded footage of Loppin playing the game (he starts around 1:57). A nice touch: by moving the Wiimote and nunchuk away from each other in a "coat opening motion" players can view Carnby's inventory, which he conveniently keeps inside his coat. And if anyone is feeling super ambitious and wants to translate, be our guest.

Alone in the Dark producer demonstrates Wii controls
Finally, someone actually takes the time to show us some of the Wii's controls. We've been wondering about that, since those Xbox 360 and PS3 fanboys and fangirls have those fancy-schmancy graphics, the Wii has been left out in the cold, alone and hungry. Not anymore, as we all finally get a glimpse at the game running on Wii.
The beginning of the interview is filled with PS3/Xbox 360 gameplay, so you'll want to fast-forward to about the 2 minute mark, where it starts to get good.

At this point it's difficult even to make a joke about Alone in the Dark's constant delays. It's been delayed so much that we're losing track. First it was November. Then it was March. Then it was May (after Atari announced that it wasn't delayed until September). It's like one of those nightmares where the thing you desire is always just out of reach. The latest push, if you insist on keeping track, is to June 24 in the US and June 20 in Europe. The reason behind the delay is to allow developer Eden games some more time to polish the game to a mirror shine. For what it's worth, this is the first actual date we've seen attached to Alone in the Dark for some time (as opposed to a more nebulous release month).
All we know is that if we don't get our horror fix soon, we may have to resort to something drastic like reading.

Video: Alone in the Dark trailer and achievements
Cinematic. That's the one word we use to describe the new Alone in the Dark trailer because that's actually what it's called, "Cinematic Trailer". How very original. Name aside, the trailer is a pretty decent look at what the game has to offer, complete with man slapping, rope climbing, dangerous taxi driving and some interesting music. Also, after you've completed your trailer viewing, hop on over to X360A to view the recently released Alone in the Dark achievements. Though, we must say that the recycled achievement artwork makes the devs look a bit lazy.

Alone in the Dark shows off driving gameplay
If you like cheese, then you're gonna love the new Alone in the Dark gameplay trailer after the break. Try to ignore the giant pop-up on how to turn off the car's headlights and just focus on the voice acting, which even Resident Evil fans might cringe at. Who knows, maybe the game is supposed to be filled with fromagey goodness?
Considering Alone in the Dark is expected to sell 2-3 million copies this year, that confidence might be a little hard to understand after seeing this "GTA in hell" video. Oh well, hopefully we'll still be able to light plenty of stuff on fire

A pair of Gamers' Day 08 Alone in the Dark videos
Of all the things that could have been showcased for Alone in the Dark at Microsoft's Gamers' Day 08, we're not sure we would have picked the two sequences featured in these videos. Alone in the Dark is a survival horror game, right? As such, one would expect to be treated to sequences of surviving horrifying situations. Speaking literally, we suppose these videos do just that, but we were expecting some ghosts, monsters, a mutant insect, something. What we get is some ledge-grabbing platforming and a car escape sequence. Don't get us wrong, it doesn't look bad -- in fact, these are things you don't see in many other survival horror games -- but we're just waiting to see some gameplay that lives up to the atmosphere created by the cinematic trailers that have been released.
Who knows, maybe we'll get lucky and see the promised demo before the week is out. We're really hoping it will make believers out of us. We want to believe.

Joystiq is impressed by Alone in the Dark
One lucky Joystiq blogger managed to get some extensive hand-on time with Alone in the Dark, the upcoming series revival being created by Eden Games. When all was said and done, Joystiq got to sample three hours of gameplay, giving them the chance to try out the combat, driving and platforming elements present in the game. The verdict: it's good. Surprisingly good, actually, with Joystiq equating the game to "a great season of 24, albeit one with a supernatural twist." Head on over to Joystiq for their full impressions. Hopefully, we can all get some hands-on time with the game ourselves soon, as a demo should be arriving any day now.

You'd certainly be forgiven for believing that the release of the PS3 version of Alone in the Dark was looking a little unstable. There's been no real word on it for a while, despite the 360, Wii, PS2 and PC versions hitting store shelves next month. Thankfully, Eden Games have gone on record to say that a PS3 version is "not that far off." Claiming that they are having some frame rate issues, the game is still being fixed and tweaked in order to make it ready for public consumption.
The game will definitely be coming out this year, according to Eden Games' Nour Polloni. It's good to know Alone in the Dark hasn't been cancelled on the PS3 as many had feared. Being the cynics that we are, however, we can't help but think this is another one of those strategic delays, considering that the game was due out a week after arguably the biggest PS3 release this year: Metal Gear Solid 4. Just a thought.

I don't have high hopes for this game...because it's by Atari. However, it's good to hear that former-Sony evangelist Phil Harrison, now with Atari, is still doing his job.

Alone in the Dark sees the light, goes gold
Exciting news Alone in the Dark fanboys, Atari just announced today that the Joystiq approved and fire friendly Alone in the Dark has wrapped up development and has gone gold. Currently being copied to DVD at some manufacturing plant overseas, Alone in the Dark will arrive on the Xbox 360 in Europe on June 20th and a few days later, June 24th to North America. And for comparison's sake, it will release to the PS3 sometime later his Fall. Central Park will not be the same later this month, so we advise walking your dog or doing the picnic thing in the park prior to experiencing Alone in the Dark.

Alone in the Dark demo still MIA, still coming
Your memory isn't failing you, way back in April Atari did promise to release an Alone in the Dark demo to the XBLM by the end of May. Thus far, we still haven't seen it even though the game hits retailers this week. But fear not, you can still safely hold out hope for an Alone in the Dark demo, because Atari has re-confirmed with Eurogamer that they still plan on releasing the demo in the "coming weeks". Honestly, we were excited to try the demo simply because we thought it would release prior to the game's official release, since then our demo excitement level has decreased a bit. We also don't know if we should trust Atari's word anymore, so we'll just have to wait and see if their latest promise ends up being fulfilled in the next few weeks.

Some Alone in the Dark footage to ponder
With Alone in the Dark finally shipping this week, we thought it fitting to cram one last post with a few gameplay videos. The first video is a melange of scenes from the game, giving a glimpse at the game's story (and more than a few bleeped f-bombs). It certainly looks exciting, though the other three videos (embedded after the break) definitely reveal some of the clunkier elements cited in European reviews so far (voice acting, controls). As of right now, there aren't exactly a lot of choices for 360 survival horror fans (though there are plenty on the way). As such, will you be overlooking the noted faults in Alone in the Dark in the hope that the game is more than the sum of its parts?

This is the worst game Ive ever played for the 360, and Ive played vampire rain.
The camera movement IS TERRIBLE, the healing system is stupid as well. The controls are also incredibly glitchy, catching things on fire takes forever too..
Vote for the most disappointing game of the year right here.
DO NOT BUY. Rent at best.. I dont even want to finish the game the controls are that bad.

Im four hours into it, 35/49 or some crap, itd be 37/49 but I completly forgot about the first two (no blinking/first person view driving).. and for some reason it wont let me hotwire cars, I can only find the keys, which is really damn odd and its making me mad.
Incredibly easy game, its a joke. Atari is about to go bankrupt, this game is awful. Theres glitches (I got stuck in the same area 4 times), stupid AI, and the story is stupid. Maybe itll pick up on the final 2 or 3 levels, but its doubtful..
Those hoping itd be scary, or at least intense, head elsewhere.. this is beyond lame. Theres no jump moments.. at all :(
Of course, if youre looking for a very easy 1k, then by all means rent this garbage.. it shouldnt take the normal casual player of video games more than 8 hours.. im only 4 hours into it with 3 levels left.. so yeah.
