My CVS told me today they no longer accept competitor coupons. The guy said this policy was enacted very recently Surprisingly I was able to use the $20 KMart coupon AT K-Mart without getting screwed for once. 4 other attempts at using their coupons never worked because my RX cost was always less than whatever their coupon was. I finally got an expensive enough RX that I got the full value of a coupon. CVS had always given me the full value of the coupon gift card no matter how much my RX cost. I guess that is why they decided to cancel their competitor match policy. Too many people like my situation where the drug is normally less expensive than the coupon gift card value.

CVS told me the same thing. They are also cracking down on multiple cards in the same household according to a manager.

Has anyone successfully used the drugstore.com new prescription at their local CVS, Walgreens, or Rite Aid? (I mean, print out the page showing the offer, and have a local B&M drugstore honor it.) Here's the link:
http://www.drugstore.com/get-30-off-dollars/qxc183696

Thanks! :)

I did this yesterday at a CVS. The pharmacist did say he can only do this once - which I'm fine with, since with the new Ohio prescription transfer limitation, I can only transfer my script once.

Where in NE OH are u? I am also in NE OH & was thinking of trying this but wasn't sure if they would accept it or not being an online Q instead of a B&M Q. $30 GC would be great!

I went to the one in Stow.. Graham Rd, west of Rt 8 (I can't remember the intersection, sorry). I called them and the one in Akron (East Market, by the U of A) to ask of they take competitor coupons (because the one I always went to declined me so many times last year, so I ended up with Giant Eagle, but they always make me wait more than an hour.. long story) and when they said they did, I asked if they would take one from drugstore.com. The Pharm Techs went "I'm not so sure, but let me ask my manager/pharmacist" and "If you bring the printout, we can look and tell you for sure." I decided to go to the one on Graham Road, and they said sure! :) Good luck with yours! Not sure where in NEO you are, but in any case, it's still YMMV, and I hope it swings on the good side for you.

I am in Cuyahoga Falls & the Graham Rd CVS is where I normally go...I used 2 go to the 1 on 59 (Kent Rd.) in Stow but they told me they weren't accepting competitor's Q's ne more even w/the signage sitting right in front of me ...so I quit going there! The other CVS's in the area have NEVER told me that! I just think they didn't want @ honor it! I just wasn't sure if they would honor an online Q so thank u so much for the info! I will give it a go! Thank u again!

The one in Hudson (91 and Barlow) used to let me use competitor coupons, but not anymore. They claim it's not just store policy. Same with that one on Kent Rd! This was my first time going to the one in Cuy Falls, and I noticed the different layout. Maybe it's considered a different district? I'm just glad they let me use the coupon. 30 bucks is 30 bucks! Too bad they won't let us transfer more than once now - keeps one from getting the best deals. Good luck! I made sure to highlight the lines where they said the date range, and for new and transferred coupons, because if they just skim the print-out, the big font says just new.

I always pay for my Rx's at CVS with either a CVS GC or MC. I had one cashier one time tell me I couldn't use a MC, but I have never been told I couldn't use a GC. I believe the wording on the back of both the GC and MC says something like "this card may be used just like cash toward any purchase at any CVS/pharmacy. Cannot be used to purchase money orders or prepaid cards."

Tell the cashier you usually pay for your Rx's with cash, so this time you are "using this card just like cash." :)

02/27 target ad has a coupon for a $10 gift card when you fill a new/transferred rx. it has to be auto refill eligible and you must sign up for auto refill.

I've had mixed success paying for my scripts with a GC. I'm sure there's an official policy out there and the pharmacy techs/cashiers are all interpreting it different ways. I've been told:

- You can't pay for a script with ANY GC
- You can't pay for a script with a GC that you got for free with a previous script Q
- You can't pay for a script with a GC that you got for free with a previous script Q IF you are using another script Q at the time
- Anything goes

I believe the actual rule is that you can't use a GC you got for free to pay for future scripts. Stores usually clip the corner of the card or punch a hole in the corner to mark the card as a 'free' GC so they know how you got it, but occasionally I've been handed an intact GC. I usually just go ahead and swipe the GC as payment, though the last few times, I still ended up having to hand the GC to the cashier for some kind of verification...perhaps they are prompted to verify that it's not a 'free' (corner clipped) GC that's being used for payment? I haven't had trouble using an intact GC to pay for a script in months, but it's still YMMV with a free/clipped card.

Sorta OT but related to the last portion of your post. CVS now requires you to hand over the gift card for any transaction so that the cashier can enter the last four digits. This is so the system can match up the digits printed on the card to the digits programmed into the strip. Walgreens had a bunch of gc numbers stolen and then reprogrammed onto other cards, and a lot of folks lost a lot of money they had stored on Walgreens gc's that way. CVS started requiring cashier verification of their giftcards about that same time, to make theirs a bit more secure. That's why you have to hand over a giftcard at CVS now.

That makes sense...and makes me a little less nervous that they're just scrutinizing my legit GC to look for a reason not to take it.

That would suck if someone programmed my GC number into another card and emptied my card before I even had a chance to use it, so it's good that they're adding extra protection.

interesting, i was under the impression that the only rule was that you couldn't pay for a prescription with the gift card you are receiving for said prescription. i'm in TX, maybe it's done differently elsewhere??? i've never had my gift card "punched", nor have i been told that i couldn't pay for an RX with a gift card. i've been getting RX's filled through cvs since 2007. the only thing i have known to be off limits is buying a gift card with a gift card.
i just noticed that i have a cvs gift card right here...the verbage on the back only excludes purchasing "prepaid cards & money orders"...HTH!

I'm also in the Metro Detroit area and anytime I've gotten a GC with a script I've never had an issue using it on my next script, also I've never had my CVS clip the corner on the gift cards. I'm thinking they just make up their own rules

I noticed that on the back of the card as well, and I try to use that to argue that they should accept it, however some stores have flat out refused me, even with a non-cut card. I haven't had that problem lately, but if it happens again, I'll definitely complain to CS as they should be accepting their own gift cards! Maybe they're just misinterpreting the rule about not using it to pay for your current script to mean that you can't use it to pay for any script.

I think you're absolutely right. I thought the rule where you couldn't pay for a script with a free GC was true because that's the line I get at most CVS stores...but it sounds like there's really no consistency and each store/district/area sets their own rules. Some stores take script coupons, some don't, some won't take them if they're printables, one would only accept it after she ran my insurance and saw that I had good coverage & they'd be getting a lot of $$ from the insurance company for filling the script...and some stores just seem to be making up the rules and changing them each time. I guess the only constant rule is that there are no constant rules when it comes to CVS. Best to ask/try each time at each store, cuz you never know what you'll get. :D

i think you're right about them misinterpreting the rule! maybe you should preemptively email customer service so you will have the answer in writing next time you are confronted by a cashier. of course, that means customer service would have to provide the correct info and we all know how that goes...:)
if all else fails, you could insist they call customer service, or you could call in their presence!

SICK OF CVS INCONSISTENCIES!! They definitely make up things as they go...I have been given excuses from an absolute "NO" u cannot use a gift card 2 pay for an RX & they looked at me like I had 6 heads to "well it has 2 be above a certain amount for u 2 be able 2 use a gift card as payment"...ummm huh??:confused: The excuses & reasoning for not being able to use a Q for a GC for a RX have been even more ridiculous...these are just a few of the excuses I have been given:

1.) "U can use as many CVS, Target or other competitor GC Q's as u like as long as the terms on the Q are followed because they don't have a limit stated like the Rite Aid Q's"
2.) "U can use only 2 CVS, Target or competitor GC Q's every 6 months"
3.) "We can only accept competitor's Q's if the competitor is within a 5 mile radius" (the Q I attempted to use was a Target Q & Target was definitely within "the 5 mile radius" but they refused me anyway)
4.) "We are not accepting competitor's Q's anymore" (sign & banner stating "We accept competitor's Q's right in front of me)
5.) "Sure we will accept the Drugstore.com Q, they are definitely considered a competitor"
6.) "Oh we cannot accept the Drugstore.com Q because they are not a competitor & it is online, it has to be a Q from B&M stores like Rite Aid, Walgreens or Giant Eagle.
7.) "We cannot accept any Q's from Giant Eagle because they are a grocery store & not an actual pharmacy" (???????)

These are only a handful of some of the contradicting excuses/reasons I have been given...I understand each store can set their own rules/limitations but most of these are from the same store, same associate!!!???:chairbas::chairbas::chairbas:

Have you tried to email them regarding their policy? I sent them an email asking if they accepted competitors coupons and here is there response

CVS/pharmacy®
Dear Mrs. XXXXXXXXXXX,

Thank you for contacting CVS/pharmacy. Your e-mail has reached the Customer Relations Department. We appreciate the time you took to contact us with your inquiry.

Our stores will accept Pharmacy coupons from competitors such as Rite Aid and Walgreens. CVS/pharmacy will not accept offers printed from unauthorized Ineternet postings or reproductions, copies, or facsimiles. The coupon must be in date and used on a valid prescription. If the coupon is for a transferred prescription, you must transfer a prescription from a competitor to a CVS/pharmacy. If the coupon is for a new prescription, you must present a new prescription from your doctor. In both instances, it must be a prescription that has never been filled by any CVS in the past. Law prohibits the use of this coupon by persons enrolled in, or for any prescriptions reimbursed by any publicly (state, federal) funded health care programs (this includes programs such as Medicare and Medicaid). Coupons cannot be used on any item reimbursable by public aid programs.

Thank you again for contacting us Mrs. XXXXXXXXXXX. I hope this information was useful. We value your business and look forward to serving you in the future. Have a wonderful afternoon!

I read this at another site:

Get up to $100 (or $20 ea.) in Kmart Gift Cards when you transfer up to 5 prescriptions – expires 4/30/11. It’s in the Kmart half-page wraparound in the ad this week (3/6).

Does anyone know if these are available in the store? If so, I will make the trek to K-mart. Just don't want to waste the gas if they're not in the ads in the stores. TIA!

A B&M location will never take an online competitor's coupon. It makes sense for many reasons. You need a printable coupon or ad coupon from any local competitor.

Most people are using the Target coupon at other stores (CVS, WAGs, etc.) so you would need the coupon for those stores. I haven't filled a prescription at Target in years so I don't know whether that is still true there but I believe it is.

For those of you on brand name meds, don't forget to check the manufacturer's website for that specific med for coupons. For example, there's a coupon for Singulair that pays your copay (up to $20), so I got my last script for free...great to use when you fill a script for the first time since it can be hard to find store coupons that work on new scripts. I believe someone previously posted www.internetdrugcoupons.com (http://slickdeals.net/?&u2=http://www.internetdrugcoupons.com) [internetdrugcoupons.com (http://slickdeals.net/?&u2=http://www.internetdrugcoupons.com)] (can't find the post now, but thanks :D) - it's a great site that aggregates a lot of drug-specific (script and OTC) coupons in one place.

Aww they used to always have them.. then remodeled and the ad area went away :\ Now I get them from asking for them at the returns area~I have several Targets in my area and I HATE that none of them put ads out. I like to pick up an ad at the door and walk around the store with it so I can check out the sale items as I get to each department. They post it in a case on the wall near the front door so I look at the ad on my way in, but I just end up forgetting which ads items I wanted to look at by the time I'm halfway through the store. I'd probably buy a lot more there if I could just pick up and ad at the door.

A B&M location will never take an online competitor's coupon. It makes sense for many reasons. You need a printable coupon or ad coupon from any local competitor.

what about the Drugstore.com: $30 Credit for Every New or Transferred Prescription offer? i am tempted to go for it if my cvs does not accept this competitor's offer...someone from another site was given a $30 CVS GC for showing this offer...

I don't know what stores you have where you live but Meijer sometimes prints catalinas for the pharmacy. With the coupon you get $20 off your grocery and HBC purchase when you fill a new prescription or a transfer(it's not a gift card but a $20 of $20 coupon for those departments). When you fill the prescription you will get another pharmacy coupon to use which will give you $10 off grocery and HBC when you refill a prescription or fill a new one or transfer. Unlike stores like Kmart Meijer will give you the full value of the coupon even if your prescription costs less(I filled one for less than $2 which wasn't even billed to my insurance because it was already cheaper than my copay and I got $20). I don't know what triggers the catalinas to print but you can often find them at the registers because people leave them behind.

I got a mailer from Shoprite a couple of weeks ago - transfer a prescription and get a $20 Shoprite gift card.

Last week I got a Catalina coupon at their register (actually got it 2 times) offering a $20 Shoprite gift card when you fill a new or transferred prescription.
"Limit one per customer. 60 years or older for NJ residents. See Pharmacy for complete details."

I've been going to the Price Chopper pharmacy. They had an offer for $1 off a gallon of gas with a new prescription (or transfer) - that special $1 offer comes and goes, but on a regular basis they give 50 cents off a gallon with 5 prescriptions (or refills) filled.

Really? Like, do you need the mailer, or is just an overall offer?

There's a shoprite 2 blocks from my house, and my mom really does need a gift card (milk is killing her!)

thanksIf you have a coupon that gives you a GC for filling a script, you use it when you fill the script and the store gives you a store gift card in the amount specified on the coupon. Some coupons require the script to be transferred, but coupons for new scripts pop up here and there (though they aren't as common).

I know some ppl discussed this b4.

Sometimes it works for me.

After dropping off the prescription for a few weeks (and never have it filled), I transfererd the prescription to another pharmacy to use my Rx transfer coupon.

Last time I used a $10 Target coupon for my new prescription. But since I couldn't get a $10 Target coupon for a new prescription this time, I just used the above method to make my "new" prescription qualify for a transfer Rx coupon. Then I could use my $25 Kroger coupon at CVS.

That's even better than the $10 Target coupon.

Well, technically they do not look like coupons. They are usually at the very bottom or the very top of a page saying "Get $25 in groceries when you transfer a script". They do not have barcodes anymore and that's why CVS does not take them anymore over here.

Eery region gets them, so double check your flyer.

I don't know why CVS would need a barcode on a competitor's Q. It's not like they can scan it. (I mean, it will scan, but it will come up as invalid or something since it's a store Q.)

Manager at my CVS explained that a competitor's RX coupon is only considered to be a coupon IF it has a barcode -- otherwise it's an "in store offer", which CVS does not match. YMMV.

Thanks for your help--but what I was referring to was when someone would take a new script to store #1--
the store would record the script, but you do not pick the script up from store # 1
you then have the script transferred to store number 2,
which allows you to use the transferred script promo.

How do you transfer the script when you gave it to store number 1?

You would have to ask store #2 to call store #1 and transfer "XYZ" prescription under the name [insert your name here]. It will be a bit more work for them since they won't have the script #, but they can still do it.

GREAT NEWS for those of you with a Harris Teeter nearby! I never would have even ventured into HT to fill a Rx, but since mysticprincess posted that HT would honor competitor's Rx Q's, I went there this morning with my CVS $25 Q and my empty Rx bottle to transfer.

The pharmacist said she'd be happy to honor the Q and give me a $25 GC or I could choose to participate in their current Rx promotion. Their current promotion is to bring in a new or transferred Rx and receive $20 in free groceries (loaded as a credit to your VIC card) and receive another $20 credit with each refill up to a total of $100!

But it gets better........that promotion is expiring 9/30, and a new promotion is starting 9/1. The new promotion is the same, but it's up to $200 total! So, wait until Sept. 1 if you can, then bring in a new or transferred Rx and you'll get $20 in free groceries, plus you'll get $20 each time you pick up your refill, up to 9 refills, for a total of $200 in free groceries! They give you a punch card to keep track of how many more $20 offers you have left. Since I got in on the tail end of the current promotion, but didn't want to wait for the new one to start, the pharmacist said she would transfer me over to the new promotion with my first refill (next month). This is so much better than transferring from store to store to get GC's (esp. since the offers are getting harder and harder to find).

I don't shop at HT much, so I decided to get my $20 in free groceries right away. I found BOGO london broil and another package of reduced meat totalling $21 and the $20 came off, no problems.

I'm going to post this in the HT thread as well.

ETA: Oh, and this is valid for up to 10 Rx's per family! :omg:

ETAA: Likely only valid for those who haven't filled a Rx at HT before.

I had a strong feeling this was a fraud. It looks like someone figured out an override code with CVS that allows a manager to enter a coupon price and then just made a fake coupon looking item. When I used one previously it caused problems but they manually overrode it.

Sometimes $30 coupons print at Meijer as well. They are a lot more rare. And sometimes it's only $15 but the $20 seems to be the most common. The expiration date depends on the date the coupon printed. Every single one I have has a different expiration.

You can find these all over the parking lot and like you said, in shopping carts. I always walk by the U scan lines to see if there are any hanging from the catalina machines that the employees have not gotten to(they are instructed to throw all catalinas that are left behind out).

When you fill a prescription you will also get a new coupon for $10 when you refill(when you refill and use the $10 you get another new one for $5).

Check out the Albertson's ad (it ends 10-11 in So. Cal) There is a $25 RX q for a new or transferred RX on the front page. It's hidden under a flap on the right hand side. It expires 10-31-11. Good luck!

A Walmart transfer deal is mentioned in this thread in Hot Topics.

Also my local Kroger doesn't need a coupon or a mention in their weekly ad of a transfer bonus. If I just mention it to them they put the $25 on my Kroger card with a transfer. It's worth asking your local Kroger about it too.

There was a flyer from Kroger with our grocery store ads today. It had $25 gift card offer for a transferred script.

does anyone know where to get the current jewel osco 25 gc rx coupon? I think some people got this in flyers recently. If anyone has one, I would be willing to do a trade.

Are there any valid coupons out there right now?

Yes the Meijer $20 new or transfer ones still occasionally coming out of the checkout catalina's. I found one in the parking lot completely wet that I took home and dried last week.

Kroger also has a $25 one expiring tomorrow for transfers.(This one was in their glossy pharmacy newsletter that sometimes came in the Wednesday Redplum inserts in the mail, and on a Sunday or two.. I saved them as I saw them).

If you are in the DC area, you know these Rx transfer deals have essentially dried up. Well, good news!! Giant food is printing CATs (the little coupons that spit out from the small printer when you're checking out) good for $25 in free groceries when you transfer a Rx to Giant. They are blue and white, and were laying all around the self check out area at my closest Giant. Exp. 2/23. And don't forget that most (maybe all?) CVS stores will honor competitor Rx Q's! ;)

Wow, remember the good old days when $25 gift card (or better) offers were everywhere for a new or tranferred Rx? Any deals out there anywhere now?

Walgreens has a new program out for a $25 GC for transferred RX's in April & May 2012. They had stacks of q's at the registers, but I don't know if you really need them or not.

Vons had an ad out for $25 off $50 of groceries for transferred RX's that expires 4-14-12.

Stater Brother's has a new $25 GC q out for new or transferred RX's that expires 6-15-12. The q is on the back of the Stater Brother's cash register receipt.

Ralphs has been having their $25 transferred q's in their ads most weeks.

Most CVS & Ralphs take the RX q's from the other pharmacies. (at least in So. Cal) Good luck!
