View Full Version : What does your avatar and name mean?
ElDorito
12-11-2003, 09:58 PM
Well, my name was honestly just pulled out of my butt, literally. I joined the website becuase I used it for about 7 months and always wanted to post, but never did. So one day I said screw it and threw together ElDorito. My avatar is Venom, who is by far the coolest supervillian ever (at least in Marvel...) It flashes nice thanks to Oni! thanks again.. Curious what yours means...

Oh, p.s., my level was derived from me making fun of my roommate. One day on a slogan generator I was screwing around and put Sh1t Monger John. Well, the slogan was Daddy or Sh1t Monger John? I thought this was hilarious, as did my roommate. At the time I didn't even know what it meant or how I came up with it. Now knowing, I made my level poop monger, because sh1t is vulgar. A monger is one who collects, so I collect poop.

My name comes from my DJ name...and i got that DJ name from my ex girl...see, because I'm a Mega Man fanatic I guess you can say..and she was into him too, not as much as me, but she knew the characters and what-not.... so one day I was playing the game and we were going to see a movie, she was in time (for the first time) and she just said, "we're going to be late 'Zero X'"...surprised; I was like, "huh?" and she said, "well yeah aren't the characters in the game called Zero and X", I was like yeah...and I said "I bet you've been waiting all day to use that, huh?" she just laughed it off, I turned off the game and went to the movies...after that it just stuck with me, I liked it...
as for my avatar, well, I liked it from the list I was given...is there a way to get a custom one? do you need a certain ammount of post, to obtain it?

Oni - means Demon in japanese, most of you probably have seen it on onimusha. Onimusha means demon warlord.
Oni - also means Ogre, devil, ghost in other languages.
Forever = Eternally = Immortalized
Oni and Sakura are very well known in japan's mythology.
Seeing how the sakura trees (cherry blossoms) are so beautiful and peaceful, I've made my name Oni from the most fearsome demonlord. Sakura blossoms lasts for a very short time, but Oni lasts forever.
I've created this name since the year 2000, been using it for my screen names, websites and many people has called me that ever since.
modded the predator icon since I was a fan of predator, seek and destroy. alien vs predator coming out next year.

My username is one I've been using for the past couple of years.
The name "xenomorph" was actually the name of the alien in the game Alien vs. Predator for the pc. I thought it sounded cool and strange and decided to take it for myself.

01-12-2004, 07:27 PM
Well, smeg. I guess I'll post my stuff here too. I have gone by "The Raddish" for quite some time cuz when I was a kid I was big and fat and once got sunburned, and someone remarked that I looked like a big red radish! And it kind of fits my personality, too.
As for the spelling of raddish, that is another story. Yes, it is intentionally mispelled, but it is kind of a private joke. Maybe I will reveal it someday. Maybe I won't.
I think my avatar is pretty self-explanatory.
Oh, and I absolutely love Savio's avatar. It is my favorite avatar of all time. And all time is a long time. A very long time. Like longer than a football field (I think, but I haven't actually measured).

abraxas
01-12-2004, 11:21 PM
I'm getting in on this thread pretty late, but oh well...here goes...
Abraxas is a gnostic meta-god, encompassing both good and evil. I use it basically as a homage to Herman Hesse (one of my favorite authors.) When I read Demian for the first time at around age 17, it struck a very deep chord in me and left me--yes, I know this is the epitome of cliche--forever changed. Abraxas is brought up in the novel, and it made an indelible impression on me.
The avatar...well up until just now, really, I was using one of Bob Ross. Why? Frankly, because Bob Ross was the Man (and I mean that in the good way--not in the fiendish corporate conglomerate CEO-type way.) And that fro he had...how can you top that? I figured it was time for a change, though, so now I think I'll stick with this one for a while, which is original Radiohead artwork, Kid A-era. Stumbling across Radiohead back in high school was another landmark event in my life, and their music will always have a special place in my heart.
God, I sound so gushy...
eddy1134
01-12-2004, 11:39 PM
my name's eddy, and 1134 is from one of those "magic square" things. basically, a magic square is a bunch of numbers arranged in a square (duh!) that have all the rows & columns & two diagonals add up to the same number (termed the "magic constant" of the magic square). i know, i know- i'm a dorky math geek. this particular magic square was a super-magical square that also had the four corners of the square add up to the same magical constant (which was 1134).
i've been using the 1134 suffix ever since high school- seems like all the "eddy" login ids & email addresses were already taken by the time i became internet conscious (wouldn't have thought so many eddys would have had parents who misspelled their names!), so i had to add something to it to make it unique.
the avatar's from the same game where lucca and the frog are from (chrono trigger)... i saw the "lucca" (aka "girl") and "frog" avatars in the default avatar choices, and thought i'd join in on the chrono trigger references. so, voila- it's magus!

crimson because it was part of a nickname I had back when I was a senior in high school, the crimson goddess named because of my red hair (surprise surprise!) I shortened it to be less egotistical!

01-13-2004, 09:16 AM
OK let's see how can I explain my user name... well I'm sure all of you(or at least most of you) know the word "jockin" such as that guy is jockin(likes) that girl, etc. Well couple years ago me & a friend were making up words and I made up Jockable, comparing it to words like adorable, huggable, lovable, etc.
Now the Avatar...I guess I don't need to explain what that means lol. It just looks good. The wife thinks I'm silly for putting that picture but the only thing that matters is that she never forced me to remove it :)

Benno is my name, 123 is a number that I added because I want to use the same login name for all the websites that require it. First I just used Benno, but sometimes that was taken.
My title refers to the country where i was born and spend most of my life, The Netherlands, making me the Dutch Man. I came by plane to the US, thus the Flying Dutchman.
I choose the Hawaiian hula dancer as my avatar because i thought it was a funny picture, certainly now Scullygirl made her move. And I also choose it because i got married on Hawaii, which was a great experience.

ARR KEV LAR DEE DARRRR anyways you get the picture, and when i signed up for aol in 1986 freakin kevlar was taken, so i added 3d to the end of it... why? well why the crap not. so thats the method to the madness. now you know my secret. oh yeh and i change the avatar all the time so if you read this next week any explanation will be null and void.

Wow, that's pretty good. 6 languages... sweet!
I speak 2 fluently and sort of bounce back and forth between two cultures which is nice sometimes to be able to get away from one... :)

Mine is also a bore...first name, combo of birthdates for the number.
I chose Bunsen for my avatar because 1) he's green, and green people are always cool 2) he was always my favorite muppet because he had no eyes, and because he tortured Beeker constantly 3) I'm a sucker for a man in a lab coat.

robotZER0...
Neon Genesis Evangelion is one of favorite anime series/movies. The first time I watched it, there was this Evangelion named Eva Unit Zero (Eva 00). I liked the name, but I decided it was too long to use, so I compressed it to robotZER0 (the last letter is the alphanumeric zero). Sidenote: Evas are not robots, though many (including myself) thought they were when watching the beginning of the series.
My current avatar is Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. It's my second avatar. I like this one because it looks pretty cool and stylish. My first avatar was Eva-01 in berserker mode... but many people didn't find it so attractive (it scared quite a few people) so I changed it.

My name is just the name I used when we played LAN games at work....ahhh Delta Force and sniping fools from 800+ yards. But I had to use some numbers so I wouldn't get blocked or offend.
The avatar is from the cover of a Sick of it All cd name "Call To Arms".

Mine came from my cat's name, Raymond Zachory. I could not choose which one I liked better so he got both names, and when I signed up on AOL I choose rayzac. The 99 was the year.

Cycnus
06-07-2004, 06:19 PM
Well, if I remember Homer's Illiad and Odossey correctly, Cycnus was a soldier who's skin was unpiercable. He was killed by Achilles by strangulation. My avatar is from the little known video game Doom2. It is a chaingunner demon.

The cartoon and year I was born, also the 1st name I used when I signed up for AOL, and tried to change it once, but just wasn't the same.
Droid was my gaming name back starting with Q2... then started playing Evercrack.. couldn't use 'Droid' so I adapted that to Driodous... everyone called me Drio.. and that just stuck.

mine is pretty basic too. Zuma is the name of my pet snake, she is the second i had, the first was named Monte (after Monty Python, as she is a python too) and the two snakes names together, MonteZuma...well, montezuma was just cool.
avatar, not really anything special...the invisible man just managed to be around, without people knowing, i like to do the same thing...you can be in the same room as someone, and just be quiet, you can learn alot more about all the people in the room your in, then if you talked with them all. Yeah, mine was spread out over a good three weeks, and I did a decent chunk of it at work (at a campus computer lab, where my job consists of sitting there and helping people when they are baffled by the incredibly difficult task of opening up Word). I remember when Kal-el put his avatar on first. At that time it was a close one between Kal-el and Oni for best avatar. Lowpro had some cool ones also.
Zoz was my video game name... whenever I'd get on the high-scorer's list, I'd put Zoz as the initials (since it only took 3 letters)... My avatar is based on the symbol 'Phi'. Phi (for those that don't know) is the most beautiful number in the world. It was used to make the spiral on my avatar and then I got it to spin.
Phi is a ratio found in nature in almost everything. Most things from trees to the human body have that ratio in the way that they are 'built'. That's why it is called the 'Golden Ratio'. The spiral that you're looking at is the Golden Spiral.
Lagkiller

lunch36
06-08-2004, 04:04 AM
Lunch36 - Lunch was my Fraternity nickname...36 came into play because when I was configuring my email address, lunch, lunch1, lunch2, lunch3, lunch4, lunch5....lunch32, lunch33, lunch34 and lunch35 were all taken. So I went with lunch36.
Lunch has also been morphed into "Lunchdaddy" or "Pimpdaddy" while in college, so I am forced to turn and look everytime I hear those words.
My avatar has changed several times. First was "The Ohio State University" logo, because Ohio State Rules! Then it was the Quizno's Creatures, because they are probably two of the coolest little creatures ever on TV.
Now, I am currently using Evil-Bert as my avatar. I wanted something to represent the most evil person ever in history, and Evil-Bert is that person. There is nothing more evil in this world.

I would so love to play again....been like 10 years. I think my senses have been honed with age, and would stop just about anything. Of course in reality I would get scored on, slash the guy, and have one of the forwards spend 2 minutes in the box. What a great rule.

Pandora was one of my favorite characters from greek mythology... so part of it has to do with curiosity and folly.
Part of it, though, is kind of strange. It's from the movie Seven, which has lots of Pandora's Box themes in it. In the end, Morgan Freeman's character says:
"Hemingway once said, the world is a great place, and worth saving. I think he's half right."
To me... that's what I believe in (the second part of that quote). I think the world's full of a lot of evil and unpleasantness, but worth saving, so I consider myself a hopeful cynic... and the name stuck as my online handle for a lot of things since then.

it's just the beginning letters from a phrase in a book I read back during my separation and divorce from my wife. During the times that were the hardest and when I started thinking I would be better off dead, I would repeat that phrase over and over to myself:
I Am Alive And I Will Survive
It kept me sane and got me through some pretty dark times in my life. So it still lives on.

Speaking of disturbing... korean movie called "Old Boy" (won at the Cannes film festival this year, I think)... very disturbing... and one of the best I've seen in a while. :) I'm quite certain not to everyone's taste...

Pandora, did you see 'Lost In Translation' with Bill Murray (one of his few serious roles)?
I, personally, thought the movie was sublimely great.

Yes, I did... it was pretty good (not really my usual type of movie, i.e. drama)... I really love Scarlet Johansson in it...

postmodfan

My name relates back to the music of the late 80's. I was really into bands like The Clash, The Cure, Pixies, the Cult, and so on. I had some really great times. At the time, the recording industry was having some trouble labeling these bands. Punk didn't really fit, and it certainly wasn't the sound of Madona or Tiffany. Then I began seeing this type of music referred to as Post-Modern. I kind of liked that. Thought it made some sense.
Then at some point they began to refer to it as Alternative. That was kind of cool too. Then "Alternative" became the mainstream. That I didn't like.:thumbdown
So, postmodfan was born.

My name goes back to highschool, I have changed it over 8 years, sadly. I was known as "chuckles" in high school band, but I couldn't get it on AIM, so I went to mrlaugh. on aim, I'm mystalaugh, because stupid aol wouldn't let me keep it after I mistakenly signed up for AOL (used it for 3 weeks).
former rock eater and my avatar refer to the marching band at Wisconsin. One of our Mottos was "eat a rock!" which was basically "suck it up, get it done, etc" and the avatar is bucky badger, the WI mascot, dressed as drum major

The name comes from a Steely Dan song called "Dr Wu" ... it's a freaking great song ... it might be my favorite by them... it's up there....
Chorus:
Are you with me Doctor Wu
Are you really just a shadow
Of the man that I once knew
Are you crazy are you high
Or just an ordinary guy
Have you done all you can do
Are you with me Doctor
nice sax solo in that song too...
Avatar comes from my Alma Mater... Texas Tech... go red raiders...

I input my real name into the Wu Tang name generator (http://test.recordstore.com/wuname/wuname.pl/wuname.pl) and it spit out Lord of Chaos, and that was pretty cool for gaming. Now I use it for everything.
The best part is "So how many will be dining this evening? Three? Ok, and what's the name? Lord of Chaos???"
Then "Lord of Chaos, party of three your table is ready" - and walking up with my cute little wife and daughter... gotta feel sorry for them ;)
Originally was Pigsaysoink on SD. This came from a book that I was reading to my 1 yr old kid, that read:
...
the Duck says quack
the Cow says moo
and the big fat pig says OINK
...
Later I got mine changed to just PIG
I input my real name into the Wu Tang name generator (http://test.recordstore.com/wuname/wuname.pl/wuname.pl) and it spit out Lord of Chaos...
Hahahah mine came out "Tha Visible Choirboy"... lol wtf?

Any gamblers out there? If so, you'll know my name comes from the craps table.
If you place a come bet and the person rolls an 8 for example your money goes on the 8. If you place another come bet and the roller rolls another 8 your first 8 bet comes off and your come bet goes back on and you make some good money. Typically the dealer will give you a stack of chips and say "Sir, you are OFF AND ON the 8." It is my favorite gambling phrase as there is nothing better than being OFF AND ON and getting a pile of chips.

As for me, Homefrrie is pretty self explanitory. I love potatoe products, ie: fries, tots, hashbrowns, mashed potatoe's, and especially, well done homefrries!
Names I'd really like to hear about:
