Hi SD,
Here is another suggestion, may be good for you or your site in-terms of maintainability.
You can have a look on ittoolbox.com; it's not a deals site. It's a technical site.
Now what happens on this site.
It has both listing capability as well as display on web capability (like SD). If an user want, then s/he can visit web and see a solution. If s/he wants to submit a request or solution then s/he can do that on email and will be saved on web too.
If I login to ITTOOLBOX.COM website, then I can see the posting as if someone has posted there.
Bye

not sure what you are asking for. it'd be clearer if you explain what you want instead of just go here.
if you want to be notified of a deal by email, its been suggested and tried before. people complained aobut it being spam, and most were dead by the time people looked at them.
or are you asking to be able to post by email?

I think ya mean to get notified by email everytime new deal shows up. I could be wrong. If I'm right, you'd probably end up getting like over 20 emails a day. haha.

Arjun,
It's very simple... Have deals also being posted via email as well as online. Also if I want to post a deal, I should be able to do that using email.
For every section like hotdeal, slickdeal there should be an email group. If I send an email deal to that group then it should create a record under hotdeal section and mail subject should be subject of hotdeal and mail contents would be the contents of hotdeal.
I receive around on an avg 25 emails from ITTOOLBOX, it never went to spam folder... Mostly the spam criteria on your mail box determinded by you not by mail server. There are few rules for any mail server to evaluate if a mail is spam.. for example...
Gloden rule : "Spam is someting which You donot want to receive or system does not want to deliver"
a) You can determine which mails are spam and spam detection enginee will take care of it.
b) You go on deleting the mail from same sender again and again for few days.. you will see the future mails are going to Spam folder.
c) Common virus of infected files with virus are being spamed by antivirus software.. so your email company has no role to play...

You should be also having privilege to select which and what kind of deals you want to receive...
If I say no to condom deal then those deals should be filtered out... Again.. if you don’t want to receive a deal via email then you can only opt for posting a deal via email.

what i was talking about spam was users were signing up for the email notifications then turning around and complaining about getting spam. considering it wasn't too effective it wasn't worth the hassle.
getting specified emails whenever a specific type of deal is posted has been suggested before and isn't going to happen either.
the posting by email doesn't seem to be that necessary, the only thing i can think of why you can't come to the site and post yourself is if you are using a cell phone/blackberry or a computer that filters sd. IMO its not worth the hassle.

If you say no to condom deals, is it supposed to filter all deals for "personal protection" or those containing the word "Trojan?"
OPs don't categorize their posts adequately to accomplish what you want. One poster is going to call his deal a laptop, someone else will call theirs a notebook, and a third won't use a category, just a product code like "Inspiron."
Create a "live bookmark" with the site's RSS feed if you want a quick way to check deals.

This topic motivated me to register and post.
That's the frustrating thing about coming to this site. I travel between customer sites all day and I'm often busy at night too. Therefore, I miss out on many of the posts that I would've taken advantage of. Or, I just forget to check the site out when I am at a computer.
All my email goes to my cell phone all day so, if there was an email notification option, I wouldn't miss out. I'd just go to the site while at customer offices or make sure I get on at night.
In my case, it would generate more visits to the site. If there are others like me, then traffic/page views would increase.

- i would've bought that dell w/ the 19' lcd flat in a heartbeat.

Email posting of deals is probabily not necessary. How are you supposed to check and see if the deal you found has already been posted if you don't come to the site?
And if you don't have time to check the site and participate in the deals, well, I'm sorry for you. We all have missed deals, sometimes fantastic ones by not being here or seeing them in time.
Some days you would recieve a hundred new emailed deals, others 20.
And if you were getting emailed deals to your phone you would NOT be coming to the site- so page views would not increase, nor would traffic. If you resign yourself to make sure you go on, as you say, at a customers site (would get your company fired from any company I work/have worked for BTW- our last computer management company had one guy who would do that- he did it here once and we refused service by him from then on.) or at home then DO it, email notification is not a factor. If, in many cases, you wait until you get home you will miss many great deals anyway.

Um, you lost me. I see two to five deals on the home page per day. Thats all I want emailed to me.
I would think that the site would want its members and visitors to be able to take advantage of EVERY deal. I don't see any benefit of a deal being posted on the home page only to be viewed by the majority of the visitors after it has expired.
Again, I don't want emails for every deal that is posted in the FORUM, just the ones that are good enough to justify making it to the home page. Further, I'm not asking for links to the deal site to be emailed, just the summary and link me back to slickdeals. I'd still have to come here to find the site that is linked. Traffic would NOT be hurt by publicizing deals to those who can't sit around and wait for a deal to pop up.
I'm sure that 80% of the visitors that come to this site sit a desk all day. Obviously they can't have the slickdeals site on their desktop all day CTRL-F5ing, hoping to catch something before it expires. But, they do have their email client open and, they know when new email arrives. If an email went out 3 - 5 times a day and even a small percentage of those who opted to recieve notifications visited the site, traffic would increase. Opting out if you get sick of the email is not a big deal.
As far as how I would find a way to get to a computer to at least see the details of deal that came to my phone, don't even worry about it. I could give a crap about your negative personal experiences. Go home and kick your dog, not me for making an effort to find a way to come to this site. I read your other posts. You're the kind of dork other dorks make fun of. Sorry to take so much of your time. I'm sure you need to get back to some pre-teen chat room. Toolbox.

That is different- but you're missing MOST of the deals here because most of them don't get posted to the main page.

I won't dignify your childish drivling. My "negative personal experiances"... whatever. Any company that hires you as a computer specialist and finds you surfing the web on their time on their system is going to be a bit upset to say the least. I finally proved to the boss here that the company he had were all morons. I am the in house IT guy and we have a real on call company to back me up when I have my hands tied.
You read my other posts huh, all 400+ of them? Well, I guess that definatly makes you superior to me. :surrender

Stop arguing about each other and argue about the issue.
Immortal, (Whatever that guy name is) could put up a mailing list. I saw some people stating it would go to spam, that is another lamest idea I ever heard of. FW, Dell, and Others have mailing list for their site, and most of the emails go to spam but you can always add SD to safe list if you really want the regular emails. There is no excuse for this, hire some proffesional if you can't put up a simple mailing list.
