Though Microsoft and Rare have adamantly denied rumors surrounding the Xbox 360 and motion control, internet sleuths have located what may wind up being either the predecessor to or the actual Xbox 360 motion control device expected to be unveiled at E3 on Monday.

Meet the "Darwin." Developed by Motus Games, the two-handed, two-piece device offers a level of motion control similar to the Wii remote, but for the Xbox 360. The unit is already compatible with a few Xbox 360 games: video demonstrations of the device on the company's web site show the unit working with the likes of Lego Star Wars II and Harry Potter V: The Order of the Phoenix.

Though the device has been around for a while, some are making the connection to the Xbox 360 based on a number of factors. Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/11/rumor-motus-games-darwin-is-xbox-360s-motion-controller/) has summed up the evidence as follows: the color palette and buttons share a similar style to the Xbox 360, and the purported codename of the Xbox 360 motion controller is "Newton." Hardly the most compelling evidence, but the controller itself is certainly interesting.

Of course, the one key thing disproving this theory at present is the fact that the Darwin is slated to release this Christmas for the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. Given Microsoft's love for expensive proprietary hardware, this makes it a rather unlikely candidate. We'll know for sure on Monday.
