View Full Version : The AP asks: Where's the Dark Knight game?

We don't know about you, but we've been doing a little internal happy dance that a crummy video game version of The Dark Knight wasn't rushed to shelves, sullying in some way our love of the film. But The Batman's absence was apparently enough to get under the skin of the AP, which tried to dig up any dirt they could on the Caped Crusader's video game incarnation.

The general consensus? No one expected The Dark Knight to do as well as it did, meaning EA didn't feel a rush to get the game out day-and-date with the film, a miscalculation that analyst Michael Pachter estimates cost the company $100 million. Of course, it's mainly guesswork and speculation at this point, what really happened is anybody's guess. But make no mistake: Though we're happy there's no botched Dark Knight title on the market, we do want one. We just want the right one.

Nobody expected Heath Ledger to die either. Isn't that part of the reason the movie has done so well, because people want to see his last film?

I think ppl are over-rating his performance a bit because of his death. But, I don't think the movie has done well because of his death. Note, I do think though that he was pretty good in the movie....maybe Oscar worthy but just not a sure lock like many have made it out to be. There was a lot of buzz about the movie even before Ledger's death. All the sneak peaks of the movie with pics/scenes of the Joker really excited all the fans. When the movie came out, it was well-received. And, word-of-mouth helped tremendously.

So, I think it's unfair to say that the movie has done well because of Ledger's death. I think it was the best movie this year thus far and it shows at the box office.

I'm not trying to slam it. If you guys say it was highly anticipated and would have done well anyway, I believe you. I just thought it was doing really good because of that but I don't follow movies very closely at all.

I hope they don't make a video game out of the movie. Too many games were executed so poorly and many times, I think they slap the name on a piece of crap just so that they can milk those seeking to role play out of money.

Oh and by the way, I look out the window and see the building where Gotham National Bank was at and I walk by where they picked up the one of the clowns at the beginning. A lot of it was filmed in close proximity. .

Before the movie came out, it was one of the most anticipated movie of the summer. And, that was even before Ledger's death. Batman Begins was also well-received and the franchise picked up a lot of new fans because of it. It was a HUGE difference from the Schumacher debacle when he took over the franchise. So, it was predicted (even before Ledger's death) that the movie was going to do well.

No one expected it to do this well. And, I attribute it to how well the movie was made. Because it was truly a good movie.

i think i would be interested in playing a game that takes place in the same universe, but not a game that tries to follow the movie.

kind of like splinter cell but with some hand to hand combat too. and a no fatality rule.

if they are looking for mission ideas there are plenty of stories in the comic books that could be fun and challenging to play. I think there would have to be a lot of cut scenes though. MGS fans wont' mind :-)

if it were cel shaded, and had stylish visuals it could be a blockbuster game. but they can't rush it out the door.

It was a great movie. I liked Batman Begins better; but this was still awesome.

I hope developers don't just push a movie tie in game. The batman franchise would stand to make so much more money if they put out a real quality batman title.

Was it because the focus of the Dark Knight was more on the Joker and Harvey Dent and less on Batman? The one criticism I have about Nolan's batman series is that I don't feel that Christian Bale has nailed the batman persona. He's the best live action batman but I feel that his batman voice borders on downright silly. However, his portrayal of Bruce Wayne in the Dark Knight is brilliant.

Cuz 99.99 percent of movie games are complete and utter garbage.
