Thanks for participating in Prof. Cain’s (Yale e-lab, ‘Jelly Bean’). You have won pymt Amazon gift card. Some participants did not follow instructions and handed in nonsense. We are working to block these participants and we appreciate the vast majority who take time to participate. Thanks,

Edit: He got the email too!

That means if your just answering there survey with bullcrap they will just redflag your account meaning you will NEVER win a single survey.

I won the Jelly Bean GC too. It seems like a lot of us got this. I wonder, since they seem to have had some problems with frivolous answers, if they ended up giving a GC to everyone who took the study seriously.

ooh I noticed on one I did, it asked "what is your year of birth" and then under it said "please answer 6!" so they are definitely putting in some things for people who like to rush through.

I try to take my time and answer them as accurately as possible. I guess that's why i win so much from them. I did make one boo boo...Ididnt copy the code at the end, so I couldn't enter it. :( (this is OLD...and I don't think it was paying and I didn't win)

I felt bad, but I DID do the survey correctly.

Just so everyone knows, I emailed them about the time zone thing...they said that they noticed their mistake of not asking for a timezone shortly after posting the study up and thanked me for pointing it out to them. They will ask for a time zone now at the completion of the study, to determine which people will get the extra entries.

So the survey's will be sent out according to east coast time. So since I'm from Cali that would be 9AM here. Hope that helps.

Same spot I'm stumped at!

Same here. I'll offer my strategies and ideas in hopes that it'll stimulate someone else's brain in the right direction and you'll share!

I considered the YouTube stuff, watched the video to see if there was a logo in there.

I tried to think of any YouTube logo names, even though it's not in the lower left corner, exactly.

I explored the copyright logo - nothing.

Looked at the logo for the website, and saw that there was 'members' attached to the written out part, so tagged an 'm' onto the end to PSTA, no good.

Tried opening the page using different search engines (have tried firefox, IE and netscape), still no logo.

Have even tried working backwards, researching the last clue to see if I can figure it out that way, and just skip #11/12. So far, I've worked out that it might be a synthetic gem, not diamond, not a pearl, or not.

Did I inspire any a-ha's?

TechnoKrat
06-13-2009, 11:34 AM
My feeling is that the webpage got changed and the logo was removed. I just mentioned that I was unable to find the logo and submitted the entry anyways.
I spent a good hour on this. Was fun in the beginning but got frustrating at #11 and finally decided to give up.
I did not see an email id in the study page to notify the school.

MustangChick
06-13-2009, 11:36 AM
I was wondering if I should submit without it. I've worked on it for an hour and a half now. Its too pretty a day here to waste anymore time on it. Just not worth the "chance" to me..

Can I just ask if those of you who got #11 got it because the answer is on the website and the clue is correct? Or do the website/clue not match up and you all just kept guessing plausible-sounding things until you figured it out? [Since someone said they got it through a guess, wasn't sure if everyone else did too...?]

And it is definitely 5 characters long, right? I keep coming up with things but they don't fit in the spaces, aaaahhh!

Maybe my puter's not showing something? Or I somehow am on the wrong page? It's the right number of letters .org, and it fits the prior clue.

The only thing that finally stood out didn't seem to be the right answer.

This is driving me mental. Is it a picture, a word, a word from another word, acronym? Sigh.

gocartromance
06-13-2009, 02:11 PM
Wow I finally got it - I'm not sure I ever would have from that clue alone, quite honestly. My brain just refused to read it in another way/focus on something other than what I was focused on. Only after semi-random trial and error was I able to get it. [Yes yes, I see it now but hindsight's 20/20 and all].

Though I can't say I feel better having gotten it on my own. I think I would have rather cheated and had the last hour and a half of my life back lol.

Go to the very first website they give you, look at the clue for that one (#1), and the answer to the clue should be x number of spaces, and you plug it into the next website, for example, if the answer to the clue is 'flower', and the next blank is www._ _ _ _ _ _.org, you'd go to www.flower.org, read the clue that goes with that, find it on that site, fill in the blanks for the next site, and look for that clue there.

Go to the very first website they give you, look at the clue for that one (#1), and the answer to the clue should be x number of spaces, and you plug it into the next website, for example, if the answer to the clue is 'flower', and the next blank is www._ _ _ _ _ _.org, you'd go to www.flower.org, read the clue that goes with that, find it on that site, fill in the blanks for the next site, and look for that clue there.

thanks for the help!

I agree with you...seems some people around here are forgetting the RULES of surveys...some people are just smarter than others...thats just how it is...

Or just better and faster at some logic solving puzzles than others.I think I finally figured it out and honestly expected to have to dig a lot deeper than 2 clicks to find the answers. But most of them were right on the front page or one link deep on all the sites.

I didn't read all the way back, i read the last two pages.

I don't see any answers given.
I do see someone telling someone HOW to do the webcrawl...and that's just stupid. because when you sign up for the survey, they mentioned how it worked.

I mean I wouldn't help anyone...it's pretty self explanatory how the game works but no one is given answers.

and I bet you the ones who would be eligible to get the extra 100 entries already entered.

I definitely could have finished this by my predicted time if I was home.

When someone agrees or denies that someone has a correct answer or if they give hints it is cheating. As to explaining the rules....the person doing it should have read the rules when he/she signed up.

I don't think it's that serious. I haven't clicked the yale link to see how it needs to be filled out. I didn't see anyone agree or deny any answer. I didn't see anything about answers except the whole "it's on the front page". There really is no point in cheating in this one.

I know I'll be pissed if I did this whole thing and they cancel it. But I can't stop. I must find this last answer.

EDIT: K4AIC I didn't see that answer posted when I went back about 4 pages. maybe I over looked it, maybe it got deleted. however, if you aren't for cheating, i'd advise you to edit your post too. and that one answer doesn't help you that much...the last few ones were the hardest.

it was page 25....I think...and by me saying it was worded funny...that is not as bad as telling or confirming an answer...because by saying something is worded wrong/funny does not in any way say how you figure it out or what the answer is..just saying I did not like the wording..

Hopefully I accomplished notification to the powers that be that if they want to find cheaters who undermine the hard work they put into research all they need to do is look in this thread. Yes, I took the study. It was fun and fast. I didn't shoot myself in the foot. I'd rather be honest than lie. If they kick me out for alerting them to this, so be it. I'm not so money hungry that I cheat. I would rather a person win who needed 8 hours to finish then a person who cheated. Obviously you don't follow the rules or this wouldn't be bothering you so bad. Are you 8 or something because the taunts are rather childish and boring.

To SgtMeeko , apparent head of the moral majority here:
Yes, I confess. It was me who "confimed" an answer that someone had already gotten. An answer, I would like to add, that was extremely easy to figure out.
I did NOT give away an answer to anyone. I respect the value of the research, but I hardly think confirming someone's already correct answer should warrant your "I'm going to tell on you!" response. In the future I will keep in mind that these surveys are a competition and no help will be tolerated. Thank you for making that clear.

Got stuck at #11 for so long (but I was in and out doing errands, having dinner...in between) but it's really simple after I figured it out. Overall, I only have a little hiccup on #8 and a stuck at #11. I feel so happy that I finally got it on my own, just spent more time than I expected but still before my submitted finish time.

stupie2
06-14-2009, 03:46 PM
Finally got it. Kind of annoyed, actually. Maybe my definition of one of the words in #11 isn't spot-on.

Anyway, as I understood it, the 100 entries don't go to those who finished fastest, but to those who finished closest to their submitted finish time. Or I could have read it wrong?

Good luck to the rest of you!

Unfortunately, I never had the epiphany some claimed they had at some point.
Maybe I am not as smart.

I find interesting that nobody said anything about the obvious mistake at the 007 question.

anyhow. having been stuck to the home question myself, I decided to reverse engineer.
I believe I found the answer to the final q. and in the end that's all that matters.

I have a quick question for anybody who has won the amazon cards.
i've been taking the surveys for about 3 months now and never won anything.
i am not the luckiest person on earth so i didnt think much of it when i neve won anything.
then the other day it dawned on me. gmail had 2500 'spam' emails that i trashed. and then i thought.. oops. what if whatever i won mistakenly was in the spam folder.
can someone that has won pls provide the email address or the server the emails originate so i can add it to the 'safe' email addresses.

thank you so much.,

The intention of my previous post was not to gloat about my winning the two studies (well..maybe a wee bit) but to let the others know that eventually everybody will win one the of the chance studies.

Oh I know :) And I think it's okay to "gloat" a little bit when you win! It's pretty exciting and you just want to share the news with people who can appreciate it. I'm always happy to hear when someone from SD actually wins.
And yeah, I'm still jealous :teehee: ;)

I was just on Yale e-lab, been a slow survey day and I was checking all the college sites, (I also reviewed several pages of this thread and did not see it mentioned, so sorry if this is a repost) and I scrolled down and was clicking on the other links. If you click on the link for U. of Maryland you can sign up for e-mail invites to studies from their site Smith elab.
