I would love to see a section where we could talk finance like some people talk politics. I am totally addicted to this website, but i also jones for talking about stocks and other finance related pleasantries. All you peeps are saving mad money and must be interested in the flow of funds like me.

I am suggesting we create a place for this, maybe a sub-heading in the lounge or we just add it to the mix.

What are your thoughts?

P.S. I love slickdeals. My wife calls this website my mistress. She said to me once that I never goto bed without checking this "stupid" website, but occaisinally I forget to say goodnight to her. (oops!) She has benefited more from this website than me because when we met, her computer sucked and now she has a cool dell with a 19" lcd monitor and a bitchin' laptop all via this website.

Never take investment or stock advise from someone that isn't in the business. I learned that the hard way already.

There are plenty of financial sites which already do a great job, such as http://www.fool.com/index.htm.

If you take a look at the popular financial discussion boards such as stock-specific forums on finance.yahoo.com, you'll see that many of them have been taken over by political discussion and generally rude bashers.

I voted yes. SDers are already posting in the hot deals forum some great investment offers out there. I agree with the previous poster that is hard to find any financial forum that hasn't become politicized; add the trollers and flamers to the equation and people lose confidence in what's being posted. As long as members and mods work with each other, as they already do on the other SD forums, things will run smoothly. Anyways, I believe that an investment forum would be a great addition. I'd rather avoid calling it "financial" because it attracts people with credit problems (which trolls and flamers mostly enjoy) instead of the real money deals out there. My 2¢ :)

I concur. Personally, if I wanted money opinions, I'd do some research on financial planning (google came back with about 92,800,000 hits when searching for financial planning). However, I think that we should have a section for it. If you don't want to read it, don't.

I work for a major brokerage firm as a Financial Advisor. This is my only home on the internet. I was just trying to see if I could find a core group of other like minds to bounce things off.

also we can share the times when bloomberg tv has on their personal finance shows during the weekend. they, the topics, arent posted on their websites. which is a bummer. but they come on every 1.5 hours during saturday and i dont know about sundays... usually half sleep hibernating for monday-friday... the more personal finance shows the better.. helps you receive the knowledge instead of looking at stock tickers and being fearful of what the numbers mean to us :)

oh and i cant forget about the motley fool shows that are on NPR (http://NPR.ORG) there are a few more as well ill post them when i have the time to.

Take financial advice from strangers over the internet? For all a person knows, he could be taking advice from a 12 year old kid who doesn't know anything about money--or worse, he could be taking advice from a 35 year old broke guy still living at home with his parents. The latter is more dangerous since the person would seem like he knows what he's talking about. At least with the 12 year old we could more easily decide that he might not be a good source of advice since his spelling and grammar will probably be bad.

I was just trying to see if I could find a core group of other like minds to bounce things off.I'm stunned that a financial advisor wouldn't know better than to look here for financial dialogue, given that there are so many vastly superior and well-established sites in that arena.
