since self-promotion is not allowed and we have no way of verifying if it's your auction or not, please do not post any eBay auction links. this is a 4 point warning you do not want. - serra
Here is the link to the original thread (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?t=678154) - the one that started it all.

Reseller FAQ (ask these questions in the forum and get smacked around!):
EBay Fees Calculator[I]
www.ebcalc.com
This is how eBay will calculate your Final Value Fee if your item sells for less than $1000 and you do not receive any special discount. Note that the FVF is based on the auction's ending price excluding any S&H Charges:
8.75% of the first $25 + 3.50% of the remaining amount exceeding $25
Example: Sale Price $400
FVF = (.0875 * $25.00) + (.035 * $375.00) = ($2.19) + ( $13.13) = $15.32
[I]Shipping Recommendations
Where can I get boxes to ship stuff on the cheap? Try Walmart (24 hour stores are great for this at 4am)! Go to your local grocery store also and ask them to save boxes for you. You can just buy 18x12x12 boxes for under $3 for your bundle. Packing peanuts are the lightest filler but are hard to find for free. If you want to order 25 or more boxes at a time, you can get them from uline.com for around $1.50 each with shipping.
The Nintendo Wii also fits perfectly into the boxes that hold several reams of paper. These boxes can be found for FREE at any bank, office supply store, library, and any other location that prints paper on a regular basis. These boxes are sturdy but light and also work well in shipping bundled items. Be aware that when claiming damage insurance on shipping, the quality of your packing will come into question - for $400-$500 an inspector will probably come look at the package, so it may be worth both positive feedback and insurance protection to use good boxes.
What size of box to get? Considering that Nintendo ships the Wii with no other padding, you shouldn't need much either. You will want your box to be crush proof which means having packing material fill throughout the empty spaces. The Wii will fit perfectly in a box with 15"Lx10"Hx6"D dimensions with 1" to spare on the depth. If you are going to pack a nunchuk you will need a minimum of 15x10x8, as they are thick. Staples sells a 15x12x10 box that fits the Wii perfect on two sides, or you can use the extra space for padding all around. 15x10x10 gives you lots of bundle space, but these must be ordered, you won't find them at B&M stores.
Which shipper is best FedEx Ground consistently has cheaper rates and faster shipping times in comparison to UPS Ground (however eBay does not automatically calculate rates for FedEx). USPS priority mail is a fast 2-3 days anywhere which will get you glowing feedback, but it does not have tracking. Signature delivery is required for PayPal seller protection on items above $250 (signature is also required for FedEx when it is declared value for $500+) - without signature, a PayPal dispute is ripped out of your account and gone forever. The total shipping price for anywhere in the USA 48 contiguous ranges from $12-$18 FedEx (bundle shipping more), depending on the distance. FedEx insurance has reported to only pay the cost of the items, whereas UPS may pay the full auction value.
When should I list my Wii?
You should use the completed auction search and make up your own mind from past results. The biggest problem is that there are usually are several listings ending every minute and you don't want that much competition, it's better to list at a time when more people might be bidding, and less might be listing new Wiis. Don't use scheduled auctions, list your item at a random time. If we told you when we list, then YOU'D be competition!
For research, www.terapeak.com (http://slickdeals.net/?sduid=305707&t=678154&u2=http://www.terapeak.com) provides the most complete information for FREE on any item on eBay. Be sure to filter out extra items such as accessories or games to more accurately view the data on selling the Nintendo Wii. Timing your listing also makes a large difference on increasing your profit margin, thus it is also important to adjust the website to fit your timezone.
What is the difference between a Dutch Auction and a Multiple Item Auction Listing?
A true Dutch Auction, which gets its name from the Tulip auctions in the Netherlands is an auction that starts with a really high asking price. The price is then lowered incrementally until one person bids to end the auction. These types of auctions are effective for selling high priced items. For eBay purposes, Dutch Auction is used to refer to Multiple Item Ascending Auctions (listings with 2 or more items) in which the price starts low, at say $0.99, and then is bid up incrementally, ending with one winner purchasing multiple units or multiple winners purchasing a single unit each. The term 'Dutch Auction' is used to refer to both the true Dutch auctions as well as Multiple Item Ascending Auctions, thus there is often some confusion amongst individuals when the term is used.
Where do I get Wiis to sell?
You'll be looking hard! Keep these discussions to the Wii availability thread, unless the discussion is reseller-specific for some reason.

There are several for sale for $149-$159 with free shipping. After eBay & Paypal fees, they ain't making nothing...how they aren't losing money is beyond me. These retailed for $129 plus tax. You do the math. :(

For some sellers, like Michael Knight, who dismantles motorcycles and sells the parts on eBay from Garland, Texas, the sheer volume of recent adjustments has been frustrating.
"I have no control. I have to comply with anything they choose to do and I have no voice in the matter," he said.

This is what you get when you have a monopoly. Thanks fair and balanced business practices, for cracking down on the tyrant Ebay.

Why not just charge actual shipping? (I know...it's a stretch...)
Actual shipping should include a handling charge.Gas: Gas costs what $4.00/gallon right now, how far is everyones closest post office, I know mine is a few miles away. Time: My time is worth at least $35/hour, if you do indeed have to stand in line at the post office how long will that take? grant it most of us avoid the lines and buy postage online of course with usps that mean your delivery confirmation will not get scanned till it gets to its destination....not to mention boxing/packing the item(s)...time is money.
Also packing materials cost money
By limiting the fees on items like game systems which beside the wii are all rather heavy ebay are essentially erasing any reimbursement for getting a package to it's buyer.
oh yeah has anyone noticed that the price of shipping with all carriers has gone up a lot in the past 3-4 months....

I'm glad you think your time is worth so much, but if you were to work that into your "handling" fees, no one would bid on it. Extremely poor business model if you have to do that to stay afloat. If you are worth $35/hour, why are you selling Wii's for such little profit? Sounds like you are over-qualified my friend.

IMO, every little bit counts. I'm not worth $35/hr, but close. When I'm not working, I'm not making any money so why not? As far as working that in handling fees, I wouldn't do it.

I just think people look for any reason possible to justify inflated shipping/handling fees. I hate what eBay is doing, but I do understand it...sellers need to work their fees into the starting prices or find another avenue to sell stuff. Doesn't seem to be any other way.

All I can say is that Ebay better hope for lightning to strike 3 times with this Wii thing or else they will cut their own throats with the ridiculous FVFs and MANY, I say MANY people will jump ship. Not just Wii sellers, sellers of all different products. They will either find other avenues to sell their stuff, or quit all together because the margins won't justify the work. Ebay started with small time sellers (garage sale-esque) and that was their market niche, now morphing into Amazon like but without selling their own products. IF they have struck a deal with buy.com and other major online retailers, ebay buyers will soon realize this and stop buying on Ebay unless things are absolutely dirt cheap. There will always be the ignorant/uninformed buyers, but slowly people will then cut Ebay out of the equation and just go to Buy.com or whatever website. MS is trying to get into the mix with the live cashback rebate deal, but most people, me included don't want to mess with rebates and jumping through hoops. I hope google is watching Ebay's every strategic move and pounces on the opportunity that's so ready to be taken.

a few good arguments.. perhaps eBay is moving more for the wholesale/resale market and moving away from the resellers (those who buy at or near retail).
if Wii's were easily available at wholesale prices this would be a moot argument, but when on a really good day the BEST you may get a wii for is 235.
I agree this cashback/rebates thing is a marketing tool and nothing else, multiple eBay rule changes in one year, that is a clear sign they no they are slowly losing the market share and are getting inventive. Can't blame them, but they are also part of the problem.

i agree, but ever since they came up with the Best Match system is when all of this started I think. They tried to keep the level fair but in the end ruined more than helped and now its just a downward spiral in which for most people selling on ebay is coming to a close. I guess its gonna have to be CL and other outlets from now on...Like TMUL said lets hope google is waitin to pounce and take over the market like they do in everything else.

Why would anybody want to give Ebay anymore money, They take auctions down for numbers in your title tell you that a remote and a nunchuk is all in one??? If you where to sell on there site it would be two items or try to buy at BB CC OR WALMART all of those places say they are 2 each item's. I see Ebay as just driving there own company into the ground. How many people that pay $1000's of dollars a month in fee's can you stand to run off before You see your in the wrong??

I never said I agreed with eBay...but I do not agree with sellers who ridiculously pad their shipping fees. If people don't like eBay's rules they can sell elsewhere, like Craigslist or Amazon marketplace. If any one of you would actually READ what I've posted you would realize that....no need for any further preaching to this choir, boys.

When winning bidders emails you that he will not pay for the item, there has to
be a way for the seller to be able to relist the item immediatley for free!!!
It's ridiculous to have to wait 14 days to be able to do that, especially when
the buyer is emailing you that he wont pay!!! TIME IS MONEY AND EBAY IS WASTING
MY TIME!!!! Ebay should be on the side of the seller in this case and shorten
that time and charge a fee to the buyer breaking the contract!!! Once non paying
bidders get charged a fee, this nonsense will stop!!! Ebay should get credit
card info for any one signing up and charges 10% of the total price for non
paying bidders. Protect sellers more and ebay will be fine . Without sellers
theres no Ebay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!

I see Ebay as just driving there own company into the ground. How many people that pay $1000's of dollars a month in fee's can you stand to run off before You see your in the wrong??

So ebay changed. You, as a seller, have to change with them, adjust your prices accordingly to get your items listed as cheap as possible, and do everything in your power to get your items exposed.
I had a DSR of 4.5 for my shipping charges. I now list everything I sell with free shipping, and charge extra amount in the starting bids and buy it now prices. For example, I used to charge $5 shipping for a game. Now, I ship for free but instead of selling the game for $29, I sell it for $35, covering the shipping and an extra $1 for the increase of FVF fees. Im still selling fine. Adapt to the marketplace and you will be fine. My DSR averages are all 4.8 or above for the last 30 days.
In one way, the changes are good, as it will be a little bit tougher for someone with no feedback to get established. Less competition is a good thing as long as buyers dont go away. THE ONLY WAY EBAY LOSES IN THIS SITUATION IS IF BUYERS STOP BUYING, WHICH I DONT THINK WILL HAPPEN.
Ebay changes and adapts and you, as a seller, have to adapt with it. I have been selling on ebay 6 years now and will continue to.
ALL THAT BEING SAID, I HATE THE CHANGES AS WELL. I THINK EBAY IS BEING RIDICULOUS. HOWEVER, I WILL ADAPT.

^^ exactly. It's always like this any time eBay makes changes...the sky is falling!!! for about a month, then back to normal. eBay knows they have sellers by the balls so-to-speak, with no real viable alternative (well maybe Amazon but fees there are no better).

All of my DSR'S are at 4.9 and two are at 5.0 with out the discounts I get sometimes it is close to break even. What have they done or going to do to make it ok for them to raise there fee's as much as they are. Is there anybody out there that get's those kinda of raises in his or her's day job.
Free Shipping-- You as the seller still have to pay for that, the padded mailer or the box for the wii or wii fit the tape.
None of that is free for us seller. The gas for you car the time you spend on the phone looking for the item blah blah.

then your not reselling the right items. im not currently reselling wiis, fits, or Mario Karts. too small of profits for the amount of money invested. DO RESEARCH AND FIND OTHER ITEMS TO SELL WITH GOOD PROFIT MARGINS.
RESEARCH IS THE KEY. KNOW THE MARKET TRENDS.
I STIll THINK THE WII FIT IS THE IT ITEM THIS YEAR, SO I AM STOCKING UP ON IT, BUT NOT AT $90 plus Tax. I ONLY BUY FITS AT COSTCO($79.99), CIRCUIT CITY USING MY GAMERS CARD (10% off, saving the tax) OR AMAZON, OF COURSE.

I do have other item's to sell-But nothing is free to ship-Why should seller's be strong armed into giving shipping away in order to make best match?? When you pay for a service and the service is to sell your item not have them tell you how to sell it and how to ship it and for how much- I Pay them a fee to sell my item that should be all they have control over.......... Ebay should not say ok we will sell it for you but in order to make it to the top of our best match you have to offer free shipping or else you will not get what your paying for??? How does that work out ?? Amazon is not free you pay for the prime every year.

Hopefully you bought a 100+ at Costco for that price because that ship has sailed at that price. Hello bundle and an extra $10-15. CC and Amazon, you've got to be freaking kidding me. CC gets in like 4/month and there are some serious resellers here that have been buying console releases down to a science from Amazon for almost 2 years now and they still have been unable to pick up any fits from amazon. I guess you're the amazon hacker right??
I will give you one thing, and I am a small time reseller, right now I can't buy any fit over $90ish as well.

you said it perfect. that is the way i have been doing it. but this means that the wii prices are going to be higher if we add the shipping into the price.i notice people in there minds look at shipping as part of the price.so has any one figured out how much more it will cost us resellers to sell a wii, since they raised the fvf on the wiis.did they raise the fvf on everything or just the systems???also like isaid before if we do actual shipping we just make the weight heaver than it really is.

I think the shipping limit that eBay will impose in September does not impact wii/wii fit auction since sellers need to offer free shipping in order to be at the top of the best match.
However, the $0.35 lisitng fee for BIN is going to be a problem. We will see many sellers listing wii/wii fit BIN for low prices, and in turn lower the wii/wii fit price overall (as shown in the previous promotion about one month ago). Combine this with the increased FVF on "Video Games", the profit for wii fit might not be as good as we think.

I went to target because inventory online checker said they had it "available"... I get there and there are none at all. The guy was being a jerk and said he wont call to the back to see if they have any.. he said "if its not out there, we dont have em". A day later it suddenly became out of stock.
I know the checker is not always accurate, but people say you can punch in a upc on those scanners in the store and it will tell you how much they have in stock?
I just want to know what is that upc that have to punch in or have them scan and how does the machine tell me how much they have in stock... or does an employee have to do this?
Thanks!

The ebay changes, while a bit extreme, are expected.
Amazon is killing them in market share and stock price. If it was your company, what would you do? They are trying to stop the bleeding.
To be more specific, I don't know why everyone here is so upset about the fees. Fits and Wii's are usually 99 cent no reserve, feature plus with free shipping. Your total increase in fees as I understand it is 0 for auction style listings.
But you WILL see an increase in your DISCOUNT if you're a powerseller. Example:
List a wii with wii play and extra nunchuck. Starts at 99 cents. Ends at $450.00 (I know this is a little high right now, but I see this as about right for September).
Ebay final value fee: $17.07
15% powerseller discount NOW: $2.56
30% powerseller discount PROMOTION: $5.12.
You will actually SAVE $2.56, gain more exposure and have free subtitle. So your total savings is around $3.00.
If you make ~ $50 on the bundle after fees/postage, that $3.00 translates to a 6% increase in margin.
Sell in any type of volume and you will do VERY well. Unless this market dies, which I doubt.

No so fast. The eBay fees are not just listing fee. eBay will increase the FVF (of video game items) to 15% of the first $50.00, plus 5.00% of the remaining closing value balance ($50.01 to $1,000.00) (from 8.75% of the first $50.00, plus 3.50% of the remaining closing value balance ($50.01 to $1,000.00).
So the DISCOUNT that eBay gives to Powersellers is less than the increase in FVF.
Edit: Also, double FVF discount is for items sold between October 1 and December 31 only. But the increase in FVF is PERMANENT (until eBay raise it again).
Edit 2: The increase in FVF is for BIN only.

this is all speculation as of now, I mean time will tell how much this really affect our profits especially during christmas time. What ebay is doing is ridiculous everyone know is but they are only doing it because they are trying to stay competitive because they are losing the market to Amazon, whose fees are 15% in video games and they don't let you change shipping fee's so $3.99 for a Wii Fit doesn't quite cover the costs you know. If profits for Wii, Wii Fit, or both stay as high as it has been previously I'm sure the raise in fees won't hurt anyone that is moving high volume it might hurt the ones that pick up only 1-2 or so on Sunday Releases in my opinion

Profits = Revenue - Costs
Revenue = Price x Quantity
To maximize profits given a decrease in prices...one must increase quantity sold as well as minimize input costs :)

Wow if that weren't FL I'd say maybe my friends dad in CA. Is his name John? My guess would be they are buying them for a charity event or something. Thats happened to me a lot. Or maybe hes just selling them for more locally or to some store that buys them for a lot in the area. If I were you I'd ask if he needs any more and sell multiples to him outside of e-bay. I've mentioned it several times, I sell several kinds of video games on Craigslist. Most recently I sold 2 NDS Lite Pokemon Bundles, several Fits, and about a dozen Mario Kart's. Have a bundle up there for sale now. Now granted, it's not the volume of most of you here, but I have as much right to be here as you do. $110 - 125? What are you looking at? Are those the numbers for non featured auctions? Non-featured auctions mean nothing to me. If my auctions were ending in that range I would definitely be out of the Fit selling game. I just did a search for recently ended Fits and even at this non optimal time of 12:35 AM EST recent auctions ended at an average of $148.91.
If you can't make money on a Wii Fit featured auction that sells for $148.91 you are doing something wrong. Horribly wrong.

yea talk about it, thats like $3-$5 profit depending on sales tax. hate people like that they are the reason profits are going down. Can you believe it: I didn't get any Wii's on amazon today! Don't get me wrong. I had plenty of opportunity, but I already have over 40 I'm saving until November. I didn't think I need 6-9 more. LOL
I call BS on you for 40 Wii's! No way....
Post a pic or go back to trolling some place else.

I'm not sure that people are really getting HUGE profits on the fits. Holding them for x-mas is one thing, but not many people can afford to put out thousands of dollars until November when the rush hits.
Where are you from in cincy?north/south/east/west?
I'll tell you when Im done ;)
So far only 1 of 3 Ive called had the Fits this week. But I mosly hit inside and north of the 275 loop. But I work west of the city and live way north..So everywhere in between is where I hit.

Why would you ever want to call bs on my hoarding ability?!? I've been stocking up since about February or March, selling some here and there. It is not hard! You could probably walk into any Target and find at least a couple in stock. Couple that with the plethora of online options, and you can eventually tell how easy it is to stock up.
If Nintendo does up production, the worst possible scenario is I'll break even. Not too worried about it. This is more for fun than to make money!
Next thing I know you'll be calling bs on me preordering 60 odd Elmos 2008 version. Believe!!!
I actually should post a picture of my office. It's pretty funny all the items I'm hoarding until November. I had to carve out a little path to get to my desk.

20 today--well 18--with the wife grabbing the last 2. A small percentage of the bbusters got them today. Tomorrow could be another good haul. 13 from 5 different blockbusters. 6 from 5 Gamestops and 1 from Amazon. The wife is responsible for 5 of these.

Doesn't look like it. No Wiis, Fits, or MKs advertised at Target, BB, or CC. TRU and Walmart are possibilities I guess.

Yeah, 40 is nothing to call BS on, seriously. Unless you are JOKING by calling BS. This is a reseller thread remember. 40 Wiis is $10k. Most full-timers like Tim and myself often walk around with that much in the wallet, or that much in Wiis in the trunk of the car after 1 days work.

From CAG Forum:
Toys R Us 8/31 - 9/6 Ad --- Buy one get on 50% off on all $19.99 and under games
Note: Some markets are testing a Friday start to this ad, which would have deals running 8/29 - 9/4.
- Buy and $19.99 or under game and get a second $19.99 or under game for 50% off. All systems supported.
- Wii's featured, WiiFit and Mario Kart not featured. BUT Wii Fit and Mario Kart are flowing out to stores at ridiculous numbers of the next few weeks.

Just two weeks ago, Costco opened in our state - within the first hour, some guy walked in, casually dressed in a business suit, and bought 30 Wii Fits in a single purchase. He was so casual about it, but the way the guy just walked in, grabbed a flatbed, and started dumping Wii Fits on it and getting out of the store in less than 5 minutes, I had no doubt this guy could do 100 units in a day, easily.
No point in calling BS, just realize there are people out there more dedicated than we are. Just gotta respect the better players, sit back, and be entertained at how extreme they can go. I doubt anyone will become the next Andrew Carnegie as an eBay PowerSeller, but some people definitely have the tycoon spirit down anyway.

Everyone, check Blockbusters! I went to three different stores after work yesterday and they all had Fits. They don't even limit how much you can buy. I cleared all three stores out. Added 11 more to my collection. w00t!

Um, I haven't bought a Wii in a while, but usually the profit is around $30 X 40 = $1,200. (not counting gas wasted) Fuzzy math there. Unless you can put up your auctions that show other wise?

40x270 (cost after tax)= 10,800
you do not profit immediately after buying them from the store. I'd say your math is fuzzy.

I see your math skills are better than your reading skills. You just reiterated what I said. <add ignore>
Most people must be hoarding them for now because I just looked at the recent ended listings and the majority of the listings people are losing money if purchased at 89.99 + tax. Yes I did see a couple sprinkled in at 150 tops at featured, but as a whole people are losing. Remember the break even threshold of non featured is 120 and featured is 130.
Hopefully others are doing well with their own sites.
