So I'm trying to give rep point to Kelly for the Free Frosty post but it says "you must spread some more reputation around before giving any to Kel_Be".....
what does that mean? am I still considered a noob?

it's a restriction meant to prevent users registering accounts to give themselves rep points, or friends "feeding" their rep points to one another. just award a few rep points to others in the mean time.

IIRC, in 3 weeks or if you give rep points to others, you should be able to give to me again, or anyone else who's giving you that error.

thanks! i'm cheap so i don't give rep points out too often. when i do, i feel they really must deserve it so now i guess i have to spread the love and stop being cheap.

Yea... rep points are a cool construct that reflect the values of our slickdeals community.
When I started, I was careful to give points only to great slickdeals.
Now I give many points to good informative contributions to threads, and even to new posters with only a mediocre deal so as to provide encouragement.
All I'm saying is that rep points work because they empower informed givers and they can encourage needy receivers.

I think the default is set to 20. So after you give one person rep points, you have to give 20 other users rep points before you can give it to that first person again. I just went thorugh this a few weeks back.

It's got to be less than that- I would guess 10 at most. I know I havnot given out 20 reps in between giving one to the same person. (I don't know that I have given out 20 rep points.....ok, maybe 30.)

It was definitely more then 10. It took a while to be able to give them a second set of rep points. Plus, I don't think it goes by points them selves, it must go by the number of users because my reps are worth +2. If it went by points then I would only have to give out to half the number of users.

I thought I read that we cannot give out rep points if we don't have ours turned on. (Just checked the FAQ but didn't find this)
I would like to give points. Do I have to turn mine on?

No, you can give them out without turning yours on.

the system could be so smart that it'd take away pts form people based on pts from people who have rep turned off
