EDIT: Unfortunately this ad is 100% real.
Best Buy better have some amazing secret doorbusters to make up for this garbage.

Secret List:http://www.bestbuy.com/doorbustersna1/
(http://www.bestbuy.com/doorbustersna1/)

"The Best Buy price match policy does not apply to items in this ad or to our or our competitors' items for sale November 28 and 29, 2008, and is not valid on prior sales."
Looks like (eventhough they don't put out most if not all door buster items until that morning) there is no buying items & returing it for a price match...further you can't PM a competitors price to an item BB also has for those two days.

Well that ad sounds like it sucks . . . good thing with BB is they usually have early bird specials, and those are the "doorbusters" . . . guess we will see.

russvegas
11-13-2008, 07:58 AM
I hope they release some more specials online on Thanksgiving day like they did last year, because Sears Samsung plasma tv is a better deal then this. The Sears Samsung resolution is 1365 x 768 while the Panasonics resolution is 1024 x 768

Also - any good deals on regular TV on DVD sets? They seem to have some great deals every year on those at least :)

JoJoDaClown
11-13-2008, 08:05 AM
I throw a BS flag on the field:

yeah, a PS3 for normal price, that includes a game that was released 11/07, and a movie that was released 3/07? I think this sounds like a deal that may have occurred last year.
Either that, or this is probably the worst BF doorbuster deal in BB history.

kdawg954
11-13-2008, 08:10 AM
I mean it could be the ad . . . but that is dissappointing if it is.

Last year wasn't great . . . but they had some $120 GPS doorbusters, $199 desktop, $400 Sony Vaio . . . . and that didn't include the "Secret Sale" . . . we just gotta be patient.

mrtrance
11-13-2008, 08:11 AM
This is a disappointment from BB if these are the DB deals. I would thought they would have laptops under $300 since CC had one last year.

Boy that Best Buy Secret Sale better be HUGE, because the ad is dissappointing . . . and I would bet that u can get the video games and blurays online on thanksgiving or early on BF.

Last year the Secret Sale had the 229 laptop . . . but the regular ad was better than this one . . . by far.

benzilla
11-13-2008, 08:26 AM
Thanks OP for the huge effort! Rep's from me are headed your way! I agree that the "sales" seem to be very weak this time around. Come on Wal-Mart, let's have some true doorbuster sales.

That plasma could atleast have been the 1080p version.

MommieMara
11-13-2008, 08:29 AM
Well a few things. I doubt this is all of the add BB is prone to adding more. They also have always added the best items last min that can only be seen on TV in the comercials and on their website. That has been where the cheapest laptop was advertiseed the last 2 years in a row. Personally I think the Dual core for $379 looks pretty good. This is looking like a Best Buy tease. They know they have to get us in there and I bet there will be the big secret 10 or 1 itwms online and on TV that will get people there.

jeffrey92
11-13-2008, 08:30 AM
I want to see more of the TV's section, but if they're all like that panasonic than booo

thus, why i never shop at best buy. hooray for online shopping

I remember the commercial on tv last year. It started a few days before BF and this ad also says you can shop online on thanksgiving day. I dont know if that means good deals online or they just want you to shop on their site and pay regular price lol. Maybe better deals online who knows.

Yea their Secret Sale has been a big hit the last 2 years . . . 2006 thy were first to have the 42" Panny Plasma for $999 . . . which was amazing at that time . . . and last year they had the $229 laptop deal . . . but I think this is by far their worst "main" BF ad, the items worth getting probably will be available online like last year.

MattShoots
11-13-2008, 08:37 AM
Thanks for the scans and info.

But, talk about a hunk of shit ad. There is NOTHING remotely worth wasting time on a line for 15 hours. I would honestly be surprised if there even was a line with that junk for those prices.

Lastly, Chinese Democracy as a door buster... LMAO. The thought of a CD as a door buster is comical, but combine it with the fact that Axel Rose as washed up as they come just brings it to a whole new level of "who cares".

mikejones
11-13-2008, 08:39 AM

the bad economy affects retailers too...consumers spending less has meant less profits for them, meaning less ability to offer sales/promotions.

I guess I am a bit disappointed with Best Buy, I was thinking it would be awfully cheap sales this time due to economic crisis and all. but nothing interesting so far. 1080p TVs are still expensive and moreover the bluray players are still so high priced. Amazon was selling those in similar price range last week or so. Thanks OP for quick heads up, now I do not need to think about Best Buy anymore :)

I am planning on suing BB. I heard on a message board somewhere that they were going to be giving out gold bricks to the first 100,000 people in line. I was planning on cloning myself 6 times and getting a half a dozen of them.

This must either be on missing scan pages or will be announced on the tv commercials along with the 65 inch 1080p Samsung that will cost a wooden nickel. If none of these pan out, I will be there a week early to get the Hanna Montana PS2 game.

This is just the 2 day sale stuff right? I mean, this is the stuff they'll order for you even if it's out of stock on friday and saturday. I'm only interested in the early morning deals so I'm not too concerned if these suck (the bluetooth headset and keyboard are great for ps3 owners btw).

Thanks OP and contributors for the ads. Lets hope they give us some last minute surprises.

laptop has some nice specs but in the grand picture, not sure if it's worth the wait outside for it. if the secret sale occurs again, i'd watch that but as for the lining up in front of best buy, probably not on my list of things to do this year.

This might be a good marketing campaign... Put bad deals in the original ad only to come out with the best ones just before BF. Creates a lot of talk (disappointment at first, then excitement). It will also keep people going to the BB site to see if they posted the specials.. People might even change their already planed BF schedule to hit up BB after the real specials come out..

I seem to think that this is nothing close to what they will offer in their secret sale. It is a lot easier to do a secret sale then plan the BF ad. The ad has to be done well in advance. The secret sale can be done last minute.. no printing for mass distribution.. just post online and incorporate into a tv ad.

This ad looks like its from Wisconsin or somewhere else that has laws about the minimum markup on items. The insignia blu ray player has been on sell for 199 for awhile at my local Bestbuy and now its going up to 249 for blackfirday?

This might be the newer version coming out... but still a bad price.

I hope they release some more specials online on Thanksgiving day like they did last year, because Sears Samsung plasma tv is a better deal then this. The Sears Samsung resolution is 1365 x 768 while the Panasonics resolution is 1024 x 768

err no it isnt, 42" plasmas are 1024x768 (if 720p) and 50" plasmas are 1366x768 (if 720p).

If none of these pan out, I will be there a week early to get the Hanna Montana PS2 game.

if you cloned yourself six times, couldnt you get 7 bricks?

OP, you have done a great service to your country. thank you for your effort. all around the country you can hear a sigh of relief.......

followed by a groan of disappointment.
yeah, a few decent deals, but nothing spectacular. hell, some are almost a lie.
32" dynex lcd, $400, says regularly $500. right now it is on sale for $450, and is on sale at that price about every other week most likely. you can get a comparable westinghouse, sylvania, etc for $400-450 right now.

seems like they are trying to pad numbers by including services and add ons.

some of the other TV deals are including the geek squad installation, a $200 value (hey, its what it says). they know that many will just never have this done, and that is just gravy on the sale. on the deal with the 47" insignia, it includes "TV & Video Set Up" and lists it as a $100 value. it says it includes connection of your TV and BR player. to what, each other? and is this an in home service, or an in store service? it doesnt say. if it is in store, wow, I really need to get in on that action. also says limited to warehouse qtys on hand. how is a service limited to qtys on hand?

on the computer deals, they including the Trend software to bump up the listed value and make the "savings" greater. many new systems come with trial or 1 year versions of AV software anyway, so this is a bit redundant.

camera deals are bundled with the pricey accessory kits or other add ons.

the GH3 bundle with 2 guitars is nice, and the 2 extra games on the xbox 360 isnt bad. you could get like $5 each for them at gamestop maybe.

all in all, I dont think it is worth my time. lets hope that they throw in some kick ass deals on the secret sale.

Really crappy deals to be honest. Definitely nothing worth camping out for.

maybe best buy doesn't give a crap since circuit city is closing stores and bankrupt. where else are people going to shop? i was really looking forward to sleeping outside the night before to slick a ~42" tv. totally disappointing.

Industry experts have been saying for a while now that with the bad economy and the overproduction of TVs, that TV deals will be far better and more numerous closer to Christmas, and they suggest we should avoid buying a TV on black friday because it will only get better.

Sounds reasonable, so I hope they're right.

Is everyone forgetting the secret sales? The stores know there ads get leaked early and they can't stop it without threatening sites but ppl see them before they get pulled anyway. Now stores are getting smart and posting there "secret" sale a few days before BF or stick it in their ad. BB, walmart, circuit city. They all did it last year. I bet others will follow suit to. They stick in a few good deals on their ads but that is about it. Transformers blu ray for bb, washing machine/dryer for sears, PS3 controller for radio shack. We'll just have to wait until a few days before BF for the "real" deals unless someone can get them before hand. :look:

the bad economy affects retailers too...consumers spending less has meant less profits for them, meaning less ability to offer sales/promotions.

That's not the way it works. When people are less inclined to spend money, retailers have to be more inclined to give sales. They usually don't make money on the sales (and may even lose money on some but not many) no matter what the economic climate is like, but that's not the point. The point is that those sales bring people into the stores, and the companies hope that while they're there they buy other things that they do make a profit on. The companies can either not offer sales and generate no revenue at all, or they can offer sales that will allow them to break even on those products in the hopes of making a profit on other things.

I think the poster who said that with Circuit City's struggles, Best Buy feels less pressure to offer deals is probably closer to the truth.

For the economy being as bad as it is, best buy reporting much lower profits than expected and people being cautious with their money, WHY would their black friday deals be just about the same as every other week? Working for a big time retailer this is not true. We were told this year that our ad would not be as big as past years because of how bad sales are and profit margins are so low now that they dont want to drive them any lower.

I call BS, many of the items are more expensive than amazon/newegg/etc.. and they are losing money? Amazon has no incentive to offer cheap products ONLINE and yet you are saying they are losing money on most of their things everyday? Bestbuy has the Nikon D40 for 449.00 for BF, thats a regular sale price that they/CC have..or even if you use a 10% coupon... i say they have these prices because the avg consumer is a moron (true) and wouldn't know a deal on a hdtv if it hit them on the head, let alone comprehend the technology that they are buying..

I also predict that the BF waiting lines will be alot smaller this year and the media will report on it with the reasoning that the economy sucks and ppl have no money, not becuase BB has sucky deals, thereby injecting more fear into the general population. But hey i say spend, your future self will send your feb/mar 2009 self a nice "stimulis" to help you pay for all that stuff, obama will make sure of that...:bounce:

BASICALLY....this is DEF a sigh of relief for me. I will probably go in around opening to try to snag the $99 Acer LCD, but I'm not holding my breath since it's only a 19". They will likely have a secret sale where prices will be better than the BF ad, but I'm hitting up K-Mart on Thanksgiving day to get most of my shopping done.

Circuit City might have a chance to redeem themselves if their sale is better than BB. Well, all I'm really waiting for is Target now and I'm good to go to plan my mode of attack. I suspect Target will have really good sales like usual. I hope they match what they did with the 22" LCD Samsung monitor last year. Instead of $199 though I'd love to see it drop to $149.

I'm not sure where you're coming up with your theories...but you seem to be looking at this from a very micro perspective. To think that stores "have to be more inclined to give sales" in order to get people in the door, isn't really applicable to what's going on in the economy right now. Consumer spending is down, and Best Buy is starting to feel the pinch. Best Buy just reduced their forecast for 2009, and their 2008 numbers are going to fall way short as well. Offering a bunch of loss-leader items to get people in the door is not the solution, because consumers are spending less, meaning that just getting them in the door isn't going to help much. If anything, recent consumer spending habits show that consumers would likely just come to the store for the loss-leader items, and not buy much else.

Obviously Best Buy has came to the same conclusion, because it's clear by this ad that their strategy isn't to get people in the door clamoring for a few specific items, and losing even MORE money, after they're already forecasting same-store sales to decrease by almost 10%...at a time of year where sales usually increase during the holiday season.

To say that Best Buy feels "less pressure" to offer deals because CC is going under makes no sense at all. Best Buy isn't in the retail industry just to outlast their competition, nor is Circuity City a big enough competitor to cause them to shift their holiday strategy. If anything, online retailers are much more competition to Best Buy than CC.

Best Buy has to make their shareholders happy. They have forecasts to hit. It's all about the bottom line. Right now their bottom line is suffering, and taking a loss on a bunch of high-ticket items is obviously not the solution.

Read what I posted above. People think that because the economy is bad, that retailers should offer more sales. Well retailers are feeling the pinch too. Their costs are going up just like everyone else.

The problem lately isn't getting people in the door...the problem is that consumers are simply spending LESS, which means less total sales, even after they get in the door. Because stores aren't selling items that normally generate profit for them, they can't afford to offer sales and promotions on other items.

I thought the $899 Sony laptop was a pretty decent deal. 4 gigs ram, 250 gig hdd, blu-ray player. if the processor is any sort of legit speed (read: around 2.2-2.3 ghz), that's a decnet deal. identical machine on sonystyle specs out for around 1200-1300.

kcaj32
11-13-2008, 12:39 PM
Last 2 years they've had a "Second" ad that they release. Last year's $200 laptop was in that second ad.
I'm thinking they'll follow the same pattern and will release another ad with all the goodies.

JAB5
11-13-2008, 12:40 PM
I pray that this isn't the real ad. Over on another BF website they are giving these possibilities:

1. This is the legitimate Best Buy BF ad and it is horrible
2. This is the Best Buy BF advertisement that runs in Wisconsin, where they have laws that don't allow stores to do door-busters (http://www.kare11.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=112039)
3. This is a decoy and the "real" advertisement is still yet to be released
4. Best Buy will be relying heavily on their "Secret Sales" rather than their actual Black Friday ad

Please god, don't let this be the real ad. If it is, this will be the first time in years that I won't camp out @ BB for Black Friday.

That must be the case. These deals are AWFUL, and I don't think they would see near the BF traffic with such crappy sales!

is the HP AMD Quad-Core 9500 Computer with 21.6" Widescreen LCD for - $599.96 a good deal. would it be able to play games like bioshock, gears of war, fallout 3? or does that really depend on what kind of graphic card comes with it?

I knew this year BF would be crap..I don't know why people think that the economy is bad that companies would just lower their price to nothing to get people in the door. They would be in a worse position than they are now if they did. The lappy is nothing to get excited about either...didn't Big Lots have something similar for the same price ?

is the HP AMD Quad-Core 9500 Computer with 21.6" Widescreen LCD for - $599.96 a good deal. would it be able to play games like bioshock, gears of war, fallout 3?

Good deal but need better graphic card, a 8800GT should be sufficient enough for about $100 more . Since a 22" monitor already cost more than $100 so that's leave the desktop sitting at $400. Unless you got a bunch of left over stuff lying around that only need some minor upgrade then this isn't the best deal but if you are getting yourself a comp just so you can play on it, then it should be ^^ .

The deals on this ad SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!! The PS3 deals at Walmart and Dell the other day were far superior in my opinion. From all the deals I have been seeing, something tells me this black friday I will be sleeping in.

i agree, no BF deal can beat getting a ps3 for $150 without rebates. only time BF can beat it is if walmart ran the 100GC promo and threw in 5 blurays and you still had a sony card to use to get the $150, that would be awesome. oh well, i still get people in disbelief when i tell them i got my ps3 for $199 (when sony card was only $100), would be nice getting it for $150

That first part was cute. If it was a line secret no one would know how much cash to bring.

Its BB's final line of deals which will be released via internet and television delivery, no printed ads. Its time from release to black friday is relatively short (I think 2 days last year?) which changed the game considerably last year.

We should see the same outcome this year.

To all those who are complaining about the ads and saying you are not camping out.. Do a search and look at last years ad. No where did it mention the $229 laptop, among others.. As mentioned earlier, wait a week or so and take a look at the web edition of "secret sales". I am sure that many who say they are not camping out now, will be camping out then..

I'm going to reserve final judgement for secret sales, there's a few things in there I want that I wont wait out for unless the secret sales are pretty killer. The Sony receiver is pretty decent though and handles 3 hdmi in and the audio processing. I may upgrade to that :)

its ok considering office depot had a quad core 9500 hp system for $400 after rebate back in march. this does come with the monitor for $100 more so you're saving about $50 as a 22inch normally cost around $150. you'd still want to upgrade the 3d graphics card unless you plan to just play older games. the card that came in my system is only able to play games at the lowest settings at around 960x800. thats still higher than a wii can handle and people love that system, so might be good enough for many.

If it is, this will be the first time in years that I won't camp out @ BB for Black Friday.

i dont live in or anywhere near wisconsin ...1 and 4 are probably true

Why is everyone on here so cynical? There are some really good deals in there like the Toshiba laptop for $380 (or $480 with upgrades), Dynex 42" plasma TV for $600, 50" panasonic plasma for $900, 46" 1080p Samsung for $1100, the 60" 1080p Mitsubishi for $1000, and some other stuff. Plus, there will be other doorbuster deals announced during black friday, so I'm sure there'll be enough to camp out for.

11-13-2008, 02:52 PM
 $900 for a 50" Plasma 720 TV, PS3 for $400? There's nothing doorbuster about these deals. In fact you can do better than these deals by buying on ebay and getting live.com cashback. :lmao:

wow man that ad sucks, i see better deals here on slickdeals RIGHT NOW!.

i suppose it's no great loss anyway.. i have'nt been to BB for BF in the last 5 years.. why? cause the line is always wrapped around the building.. if i went to BB it would mean not making it to the rest of the stores especially since a few others open earlier then BB here.

i sure hope the rest of the retailers step up, im really gonna miss circuit city they usually had good BF stuff, although staples never fails to deliver.

i've been passing up some good deals this last few weeks in hopes of ever better on BF i hope that does'nt turn out to be a mistake :(
