I have created this spreadsheet the past couple of years to help with my Black Friday shopping, I have found it very useful and I hope you will as well. Essentially, it is a spreadsheet that lists all the major Black Friday store ads in a format that can be sorted by store, product, price, etc. Use the drop down arrows at the top of the columns to sort and/or filter the data.

This is a work in progress and more ad information will be added as it becomes available.....

Thanks to all for the offers to help, I really appreciate it.

Download Here (http://www.mediafire.com/bf2008-buying-guide) or here (http://savefile.com/projects/808710801)

11/15 - minor update - added Walgreens and Sports Authority - more coming this weekend
11/16 - Added Circuit City and Radio Shack .....still more to come.
11/16 - Added Office Max, Target and Ace Hardware.....more updates are coming.
11/16 - Added Dicks Sporting Goods and Kmart....still more to come.
11/20 - Added Staples and Meijer's Thursday Ad....more coming over the next few days.
11/21 - Added Walmart
11/23 - Mega Update - Added Bass Pro, Blockbuster, Burlington Coat, Dell, GameStop, hhgregg, Home Depot, KB Toys, JC Penney and Office Depot
11/23 - Added Costco, Kohl's, Meijer, Ritz Camera, Toys R Us.
11/23 - Added Macys
11/24 - Made some categorical and cosmetic changes.
11/25 - Added AAFES, Navy Exchange and Best Buy's "Secret Sale" items.
11/26 - Added Gander Mountain, NewEgg (thanks to FeelFree86) and Sams

******The PASSWORD is------> thanks2fw&sd

11/28 - Another year is done and another Black Friday completed. I want to thank everyone for their kind comments over the past couple of weeks, my family and I really enjoy reading them. I hope that everyone had a safe and successful Black Friday experience this year. Happy Holidays to all and to all a safe and prosperous New Year.

Until next year,

akelnat

Looks great, thanks for all the work on it. Only problem I see is that in order to make it printable and still have the font big enought to read, a few of the columns would have to be deleted. No big deal as a couple of the descriptor columns are redundant details and can be deleted without affecting the functionality of the spread sheet. And if you want you can abbreviate the store names to shrink that column down to save space also. Reps +3 to you !

There's probably an easier way to do this, but, copy the data cells and just paste them to a new worksheet. Then, highlight entire range and select Data/AutoFilter.

Everyone don't forget that you can use the "Find" feature to find something you're looking for immediately. Go to Edit --> Find (or just hit Ctrl+F). This way you don't have to go through sorting to locate a particular item.

Is there anyway to guarantee availability at the store?

Get there REALLY early! Many stores post in their ads how many are guaranteed. Some do not. If you see something that you MUST have, then chances are thousands of others see the same thing ~ so plan on dressing warm and drinking lots of coffee :)

OR>> Pray that Walmart carries the same item and does NOT have it in their ad. If so, avoid the lines and get from Wallyworld with a PM! (most Walmarts PM black friday, but call ahead and ask yours before you waste your time)

If using excel 2000 (office 2000) just paste the entire spreadsheet into a blank excel 2000 spreadsheet and turn on autofilter ( Data/Filter/AutoFilter) and you should be good to go.

Hello

Thank you for all your hard work. I know it has to take hours to put everything in the database. May I ask if you will allow us to change the column sizes and type size so we can print it to look at other than on our computers? I personally like to have room to make comments and would eliminate the first blank column and add one at the end to write my notes. But, I could not do those functions. And printing it that wide makes it more difficult to take with me to shop.

Thanks again and hope you can allow us to change a few things so we can really use it well for planning our strategy for bargain hunting. After all that is what its for, right

Is anyone eles having difficulty using the category tabs to filter in excel?

Unlock the sheet with the password at the bottom of the Wiki. Look under the Tools or Format menu for the Protection menu option in Excel (depends on what version you're using. Other versions may be in different locations that I am not aware of.)

Alternatively, the editable version should filter for you -- if you're doing manual edits / updates..

As far as I can tell, the currently available editable version was last updated prior to the current master update, so follow the instructions in the Wiki to update the editable version from the latest non-editable master, and you're good to go.

Just in case anyone wanted to put it in a pivot table (Excel 2003).. you gotta copy & paste all the info into a new spreadsheet(spreadsheet is locked for good reason of course). From there you'll want to go to the tool bar and create a pivot table like so

Data ->Pivot table chart and reports

A window will pop up and then you and hit you will hit next twice.. (new sheet and the data should auto populate)

Once there you should have your pivot table ready to go.

What I did was click and drag the category for the top row, sub category for the left column and price in the main data fields. and voila.. I can have it show only TV's and have the prices to show average (vs count) that way if set up my budget of only spending 1250 for a 47in. And if I want more detail i would just double click on the price and it'll give me which store has it.

Suggestion for next year.. add in what retail price is and bam you can get this bad boy to sort by how deep the discounts are.. Heck keep my name in mind next year and I can assist ya w/ pivot tables and such. =)

Apologies if my instruction's suck, but it's 1am..

are those prices in store or online or both?

and I'm not sure how many quantities they have available...www.pinkfriday.org says that there will be a live webcast? and all proceeds go to breast cancer research...I'm not too sure if they are willing to sell large quantities of the sale items and have all the money they make go towards the foundation.

$250 for typing over 4000 lines in a spreadsheet, ohh yeah he really made a killing.

Why don't you crawl back under your rock. And don't forget to delete the spreadsheet from your desktop since you are so against it.

I love you pathetic people who are jealous of someone else for making a few bucks because they are too lazy to ever do it themselves. The guy worked his ass off on this spreadsheet and many of us used it a lot and WANTED to send him a few bucks as a gesture of thanks for all his hard work. If you have a problem with that then don't download it and STFU.

Next year, would you please make a doorbuster column (like, "Y" in column means it's a doorbuster) instead of making them bold? You can't easily filter of search for bold cells.

I also suggest that you don't merge any cells. Dealing with merged cells is a pain when you want to re-order the columns.

Thanks (and repped) for all the work. You really helped a lot of people.

That was the only thing I disapproved of - I would never ask for money or put up a donation button on a spreadsheet I make for myself every year anyway; I just find it kinda sleazy. Sorry you don't like me not liking it, but hey, I am just stating my views, like them or not. BTW - as soon as I saw the donation button, I deleted it :P
