View Full Version : Abbrv's
It would be nice to have the group compile a list of abbreviations and their meanings:
IMO: In My Opinion
OOS: Out of Stock
B&M: Brick and Mortar (In-Store)
AR: After Rebate
Forgive me if this is posted somewhere already. I just looked in the Suggestions/Problems area and the FAQ's (quickly).
I just know that it took me some getting use to when I first joined and had NO idea what some of these meant and didn't want to pollute the boards with my questions.
Thanks for everything so far.

Here's what I've been able to pick up so far (other than what you've already mentioned)
FAR - Free After Rebate
MIR - Mail In Rebate
That IMO you mention isn't a SlickDeals-specific item, though... it's just standard "net speak" (IMHO is a variant - In My Honest/Humble Opinion), same with LOL and ROFL (and the topper, ROFLMFAO)
Oh, and welcome aboard!

AR - After rebate
B&M – Brick and mortar store
B1G1 or BOGO – Buy one get one free
BB – Best Buy
BTW - By the way
CSR - Customer service representative
GC – Gift certificate
IMHO - In My Honest/Humble Opinion
IMO - In my opinion
IR - Instant rebate
MIR – Mail in rebate
OD – Office Depot
OEM - Original Equipment Manufacturer
OM – Office Max
OOS - Out of stock
PM – Price match
PM - Private Message
S/H – Shipping and handling
MMV - Your mileage may vary
Thanks for your contribution, lowpro.
bannoy, I've been a "netizen" for 9 years, so I have a grasp of the regular IM-based lingo, but my suggestion was more geared towards having a section (or glossary) located in the FAQ's or somewhere that had a list of these frequently used terms (and perhaps some that I haven't come across yet) so that one could look them up.
This isn't meant to be an overly-defensive attack, I'm just clarifying my point of helping out the ultra newbies. Alot of these are easy to figure out and there are a million places that explain what LOL means, but who would have guessed the meaning behind B&M? Or that "Gorgor" means "I already ordered one." :D
Since the list would be rather small with these more cryptic terms, throwing in the others that are commonly used around here would thicken the list a bit.

If it's not an overly-defensive attack, then what kind of attack is it?
Sorry if I offended you or implied that you were a newbie to the net; didn't mean anything by it. I saw the "IMO" and leapt to my incorrect conclusion.
Take care and Happy New Year!

Heh, I kinda wondered what those meant. Thanks for the input.
I was thinking "Designated Hitter", but no, that can't be it...

I've noticed that there is a lot of 'flirting' going on lately in the different threads ;-)
not that that is a bad thing...

wondering about that too, thought it was initials for a while but that didn't make too much sense.
