I've scanned the Black Friday deals for HDTVs. Samsungs are the best in their price range, and I was looking at the $1099 46" Samsungs for sale this BF at Circuit City, Best Buy, Sears.... trying to decide which line to freeze my ass off in.
That's when I searched the threads, did more research... the Doorbuster deals at all three stores are for the LN46A500, which is a great TV but only has a contrast ratio of 20K:1 and only 2 HDMI inputs. Why stand in line and buy this TV for $1099 PLUS tax at a B&M store, when you can buy the same TV for $1099 NO TAX (except NY, NJ) with free shipping at 6th AVE? Click here if u want it (http://www.6ave.com/Shop/Product.aspx?sku=SAMLN46A500)
But here's the kicker, you should really do what I just did and buy the LN46A550 which has way better contrast ratio 30K:1, three HDMI inputs, and using the coupon CAT6OFF, it is only $1139.90 delivered!!! (again sorry NY, NJ must pay tax). Also this one has side imputs, not just the back ones like the 500 model.
DO IT!! (http://www.6ave.com/Shop/Product.aspx?sku=SAMLN46A550)
Don't get suckered into this years weak BF deals guys, keep searching out there. :)

It blows away the Samsung listed here. Dynamic contrast ratio is 1,000,000:1. And the Plasma doesn't have any of the problems inherent to LCD either (more detail on that in the thread I linked to.)

Don't get suckered in by manufacturer-reported contrast ratios. Every manufacturer seems to have their own measuring criteria. If you're going to compare contrast ratios, use lab-testing derived ANSI contrast ratios.

Great post. Repped, even though it's normally considered inappropriate (against the rules?) to ask for reps. Just FYI.

I have been trying to decide between these two sets for a while now as well. I was thinking about getting it from amazon however because they have some pretty good deals and less concerns about their creditability.

After much struggle (60hz vs 120hz) and curb side delivery vs. white glove - I finally pulled the trigger on the 6ave deal. Hopefully it'll arrive in one piece! Purcahsed w/ AMEX to get extra year of warranty (1+1 = 2 years).
Thanks op for the tip! My order came out to be $1,139.90 shipped.

Guys, like the wall street journal said today, prices are going to stay pretty low even after BF so you can just wait it out until super desperate retailers give you the right deal.
But if you wanna freeze your butt off go ahead =p Considering that prices have dropped almost 50% on some sets over the last 2 months I'm willing to wait it out just a little bit more.

Personally I don't trust the NY NJ sites enough to buy from. Research the seller.
Imagine what the prices will be after Christmas. These rare prices should be easy to come by then.
Maybe Obama's rebate will get me that 46" for my bedroom ;)

How is it for $898? Fry's was selling the ln46a500's for that price today.

Because HDTVs are not selling as they should, retailers are lowering their prices and undercutting each other especially Amazon. Do not be rushed into buying a TV just because it seems cheap. Check around to find out the best values and monitor major sites for the best price (sometimes they change twice a day) and expect free shipping.
Most are trying to get rid of the 720 and earlier models - at bargain prices. I say expect the 1080 bargains instead and wait for those.
There are a number of sites that just opened up selling at lower then usual prices. They are not legit and you need to be careful. Do not feel rushed into deals, Amazon for example offered some Sony deals last week that were good, then raised prices. Now prices have come down again.

I'd strongly advise staying away from 6th Ave. I bought my Plasma TV there a few years ago, and they pulled the old bait and hook on me. A sales guy called me the day after I placed my order and tried to up sell me to a higher priced TV. After declining that, he then proceeded to try to sell me wall mounts and an extended warenty. He kept me on the phone for nearly 45 minutes, and even accused me of being foolish for not accepting his offers.
The TV has been great, but I'll NEVER again use 6th Ave. You've been WARNED!

No. YOU allowed him to keep you on the phone 45 minutes. Any else with any guts would have told them to cancel the order.

Anyhow, Fry's had A500 model for $899+Tax on BF and CB. I did not see it in the ads, just went there and see it. So, I am really happy with it. It is bright enough for my bright room. Non HD Channel turn out better than I thought. Hooking up the PC on it is great too, because there are a lot of shows offer HD quality on line (CBS, ABC, Etc). For some of you who plan to buy new computer, get one with the HDMI output. It looks amazing on the big screen. FYI, for A550 at Fry's, they had it for 1,099+Tax, but I decided to stick with my lower budget. Goof Luck SD's.....
