View Full Version : Hall of Shame; Banned Users and fond remembrances of them

This has probably been suggested before; it'd be neato to have a forum, even if it's no-reply, where banned users and their offences can be listed and remembered fondly by the whole community.

So we can point & laugh?

The problem with that is the users that go on the "7 day vacation" & keeping up with them being banned & then unbanned.

Personally, I don't think it's anyone else's business to know who is banned.

yes. why else would we do this?

permanent bans only.

if this was a poll (nudge nudge OP) then your vote would be noted.

I assume you are referring to my 39 other IDs that got banned?

Yah, some posters would just be listed along with the post that got them banned. Others would be remembered fondly, like liquidsky, his brother liquidsky_sober, and acidic_diahhrea. There were others. I wouldn't call being locked outside for seven days "Banned". I'd call that "On suspension" "Banned" seems like it indicates permanence.

Err, how do I add a poll to a thread that's already up and running? I've never done that before and I'm not a big pollster.

ask on of the mods. or try looking under thread tools if add a poll is there.

or how about we cut some one-post wonders? if you look through the members list, many have 0-10 posts and hardly participate. maybe we can cut the ones inactive for say... 6 months to save some room.

What if option 4 (or 3 or 2) gets a lot of votes (say over 500 votes)? Will it mean that there will be a published list of banned people?
NO

More than likely. Like lowpro said, most are one-post wonders, some are banned under multiple names, some get the 7 day vacation, and I don't think it's anyone else's business to know who's banned. Not to mention, no one should have the right to comment on them. They would lead to arguments & fighting.

See, that's where "sense of humor" comes in. The ability to laugh at others, even the ones who are making fun of you. They are, by far, the most entertaining posters around.

Sure, felonys and other stuff that people do wrong get posted in the PUBLIC newspaper.

I also feel that this would help get the knowledge out there as to what rules get enforced, and we'll reiterate what rules people need to follow.

I think this is an awesome idea, and many other forums are doing this.

Also, they should be locked, because it would provide people with spam-like threads promoting unneeded posts. Also, without them being locked, it would create lots of anger toward the community.

Another point made my lux, disabling certain threads including all the really really bad stuff, like porn, horrendous swearing and cussing, referral links automatically filtered... etc.

I do have a sense of humor but some of the ones Im referring to are hugely annoying ( to put it nicely), with no other intent but to pester.

There are also a few of these such "members" who still occasionally contribute their "wit".

They are in my ignore list so I dont have to see their humor.

lol, i see your point, but IMO its not fair to pick at people who can't defend themselves. it takes quite a bit to get banned permanetly, do we post everything that lead up to it?

Oh dear god, please no. Like Jen said, most of the people who earned themselves a perma-ban were annoying, trolls, spammers, etc. and I doubt we need a remind of what certain people posted while they were here.

aclays
06-03-2005, 12:32 PM
the idea's awesome. i say don't add any of the posts the user makes though, simply allow members to post whatever they want. simplifies the work for the mods, and gives members the opportunity to post what they considered the 'problem' to be - including any posts or whatever they feel led up to it ;)

although this sounds very fun, it could lead to problems..

If a member was ever banned and regulars or etc felt it shouldn't have happened (reg's, think back to oct-nov when thongs, lolly-pop sucking and etc was banned..) things could get seriously out of hand. I can say 100% certain that had this idea on posting comments due to a person's banning was allowed back then.. the entire idea would have been trashed. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for it, as now the new general crowd that's taken over the lounge is used to the new and improved rules, and IMHO what happened before won't happen again. BUT it is something to be considered..

Also, alot of times, perma ban people comeback under different names. Sometimes, they learned from mistakes, and move on. Sometimes they are still very bitter and just want to raise hell.

I don't think a forum showing everyone, members & guests, who's banned & how they got there would do any good. I think it would just make them come back on bad terms & do it all over again.

And again, it's no one's business.

It's not Hall of Shame worthy.

To Mr. SD, take a look at the poll... the results for having this hall of shame are outstanding compared to the other ones... a measly 9 out of the 57 users who voted, chose NOT to have the hall of shame.

Short Summary: Gary was banned before and now has 8 out of 10 points under a different account.

think of it like this....

You go into your bosses office and "suggest" to him that you would like to be paid 3x more than you are making now because you are outstanding compared to the others there working with you. I'm sure your boss will listen to the "suggestion" and will either give you the raise or choose not to do so.

I can tell you that we've (mod team) all seen this suggestion that you've made and once again I'll say that we feel it is not a good move for the SD forums.

Hardly representative. Self-selected polls like these are interesting, but one should never judge them to be valid indicators of group opinion.

Well, it was just a suggestion; the poll was only added after someone else suggested.

I don't have any illusions that "poll" = "vote", and that majority opinion is how things are decided on a website that (let's face it) isn't owned by the group.

I'd be suprised if this hasn't been recommended (and turned down) before, was just curious to see how it would fly.

I still think it'd be neato, and fun, if a bit mean-spirited towards people who have earned the ban-hammer.

I didn't vote, myself. Since I'm the one who started the poll and made the suggestion, I didn't want to taint the results; even tried to make the options of the poll fairly neutral.

Heh. I said "taint".
