Apparently, Mitsubishi is having a promotion where if you buy a Mitsubishi TV between November 20th, 2008 and November 30th 2008, they are giving out either $600 in gas vouchers or a $100 Visa gift card. The gas vouchers are paid by you sending in your gas receipts that total so much per month, and then they send out a gift card from various gas stations of your choosing. The stink of it is, you've got to keep track of your receipts and send those off each month. Or, you can take a lump sum Visa Gift Card payment of $100. You can register for the vouchers online or via the MIR form. This is through Mitsubishi direct so it is not store specific.
These tv's are in both the CC ad and BB ad. Best Buy has the 60" 1080p DLP (WD-60735) Mitsubishi advertised at $999 while Circuit City has the 65" 1080p DLP (WD-65735) for $1,199 (although I think they also have the 60" version for the same price as BB).
If you aren't hung up on a flat panel, these sets give incredible pictures without the problems inherent to flat panels. There's no color banding, motion blur, burn in, or any of the other problems that plague flat panels (both plasma and LCD). The only bad thing is that you will eventually have to replace the bulb inside the set at a cost of $100. The bulbs are supposedly good for two years worth of viewing at an average of 8 hours per day (allegedly).
Here's the form you'll need.

Here's how this works - you buy at least $100 of gas within the calendar month and send in with form, and get back a $25 gas gift card to station of your choice. You do this for a year and have a family member (or friend) do the same and your total savings is $600. Catches - you and the second person must spend $100 each per month on gas. There may be an issue of your receipts are from the same day.

Think about this...if you are lucky enough to score one of the mitsu 60" DLP's for 499 from compusa and than do the gas deal you would get paid 100 bucks for a great 60" 1080p TV!

That is pretty cool. No lie. I like the look of some of the DLP's and Projection sets. My 'rents have a DLP Projection Toshiba 1080i and it looks pretty nice. They did have to replace the lamp after about 2 years for about 150$ but at the same time, I recently read that the projection sets use about 1/2 as much of the electricity of the LCD's and don't even go there with Plasmas...*(which typically speaking use more watts than the LCD's) So it's probably closer to a "wash" for the lamps....

Avoid Mitsubishi at all costs. We had a 53" projection that was nothing but trouble. When we tried to find the piece that needed replacing we found out that Mitsubishi was no longer making the part. The TV was a "diamond" HD blah blah blah and was only 4 years old. This was the 2nd time it needed that piece replaced. Mitsubishi was impossible to talk to and 3 different TV repair guys told us to give up on the TV because they've seen that same story before. I tired some DIY repairs when all hope was lost and even contacted a very nice stranger in California who had replaced his capacitors to get his TV to work (he had done this twice). Nothing worked.
Now I had a really expensive and cool black box that used to be a tv in the living room. I put things on it sometimes.
I will never buy another Mitsu TV again and suggest that you don't either.

How will you get the code for registering your gas redemption at their website? Is it something that mitsubishi provides you when you register the tv? I don't think the stores hand those out.

Looks like you might have to use the mail-in form then as it makes no mention on the form of a redemption code. The redemption code must just be an online thing. Looks like the $100 gift card is not even an option through the website either so it appears as though if that's the option you want, you have to go through the snail mail. Oh well, I can wait 6 weeks for a $100 gift card since I've already gotten a good deal on the tv.

That is just one experience. Several of my family members own Mitsubishi HD sets and they have been great. I know you don't like psychology by your sig, but basic statistics says that a sample size of 1 isn't quite big enough to make an assumption about a population....

No, I bought my 60735 at Ultimate last Thursday during a "black friday preview" sale they were having where they were offering their bf prices for 4 hours that night. It was the exact same format as a bf sale too as they handed out vouchers to all of us who were in line in the store. If you got the voucher, you got the item. Lucky for me, most people are after the flat panels so there were plenty of the DLPs to go around.
In fact, after reading through Slick deals and the FW forums, most people are after the flat panels so I honestly don't think you'll have too hard of a time scoring a good deal on a DLP. Keep in mind that Ultimate Electronics, CC and BB are all having these sets on sale and in particular, CC and BB sale prices are good all weekend long and not doorbusters. I hope everyone who wants one gets one. I honestly couldn't be happier with mine other than the geometry issue I was having that has now been resolved. Good luck to all of you.

I think Im gonna go ahead & get it, especially after talkin to derek533 a few times & seein how happy he is with it. The $600 gas voucher or $100 gift card is just an added incentive to do it now I think
Then of course if I do pull the trigger now, a better deal on the TV will pop up in the days ahead

Id also need to find a good deal on a stand too

Todays flat panels are supposedly good for 50k viewing hours. I believe the bulbs for those tvs are for 6k hours but they usually get 30% less than advertised price of quality viewing. Bulb costs make these rear projection tvs too expensive and more $$ than flat panels.
I read some threads with user experiences.
Also, they seem to have more repair problems than flat panels, more moving parts and greater heat production. Repairs from either flat panels or rear projectors will probably mean a new tv as they are overly expensive.

For anyone reading this now, you can get the 60" for $999 from BB online NOW (no need to wait in lines), and you can get the 60" for $999 and 65" for $1199 online NOW from Circuit City.
We just picked up the 65". Our friends have had the 73" for some time now and they love it (and we love watching it as well when we go over to their house). I'll be picking mine up on Saturday (the place is just down the road).
Thanks for this find. I'll do the $100 gift card and put it towards a stand! LOL.

If you read the form, you will see it says... "Upon registration, you will be eligible to receive a $25 Gas Card for each month you return $100 in gas
receipts with your monthly coupon, up to $600 in total value"
and
Monthly Redemption- To redeem your monthly Gas Redemption Coupons, you must take a minimum monthly purchase of $100 in gas at the gas station brand you
preselected.
1. Each month, mail your original gas receipts for $100 or more (no photocopies, or receipts collected on the same day) along with your monthly Gas
Redemption Coupon to: Gasoline Redemption, 14100 Walsingham Rd.,Suite 36, Largo, Florida 33774.Fraudulent receipts are void for redemption and you
will receive an email stating why your receipts are being refused.
2. Upon receiving the requested receipts, we will mail you a $25 gas card, which can be used at any gas station location of the same brand you preselected for
gas and merchandise. Continue to mail in your original receipts and monthly Gas redemption Coupons every month thereafter, until the value on your Gas
redemption Voucher has been reached.
I drive a VW Jetta TDI that gets 40+ mpg. I fill up once a month which is roughly $45. So, I don't use $100/month in fuel. Plus, $25/mo would take 2 years to complete $600 in reimbursement.

Stupid question time for Derek or anyone else readin this who wants to help out..
I keep hearin about people gettin their TVs "calibrated" after buyin one new cause its spose to give it the best picture its capable of. Is that something I can do myself? Or does it have to be taken in somewhere & done professionally. If so, how much does something like that cost, & is it worth it to have it done?
Thank ya in advance

I did research on those big DLP before,
they all having the "rainbow effect" issue. which are pretty much defect and most of the DLPs having not clear picture
not a good deal in my opinion, just save up for a true 1080p LCD

Did anyone send in the rebate form yet?? I picked one up at BB online for $999
I was going to choose the $100 Visa Gift Card. Qualifications ask for the "Original Receipt". When the TV was delivered it did not come with receipt. Alls I have is the printed receipt that was emailed to me. Does anyone know if that usually works for "original"?? Also.. does not ask for you to send UPC in from box. I am debating if I should just send it in anyways to be on the safe side.

Calibration is something that is done by accessing the service menu of the tv. If you don't know what you are doing in there, you can majorly screw up the tv. There is a huge thread over at avs forums about calibrating this particular set.
Is it worth the cost? That's a more subjective opinion and personally for me, I like the picture enough now to not want to spend 1/2 the cost of the tv for a calibration that will most likely need to be redone once a bulb is replaced.

Apparently, your research wasn't all that exhaustive or was done when this technology was first hitting the shelves. Otherwise, you would have found out that most people can't see it at all, and that it does not affect picture clarity if you can't see it. Also, the Mitsu's use a 6 color wheel vs. a 3 color wheel which greatly reduces the chance that you'd ever see it if you were one of the few out of a thousand who could see it to begin with.
Just so you know, the picture itself is very sharp and crisp and probably better than my Panny plasma.
