Anybody else waste their time on this? Good idea to help with the breast cancer charity which I strongly support already. I thought it would be good to help with donations and pick up some good deals.

Unfortunately that never quite worked out. Site went down continuously. It crashed browsers. I'd finally get through and then the automatic message would tell me to hold for someone to take my order. Then nobody would come. I'd call back from another phone and it would say everything is sold out but nobody would answer my original call which was still waiting for someone to take my order.

This has to be my worst (attempted) buying experience this season. It is a total joke. I'll never order from TigerDirect/CompUSA again. I went through this on multiple items including some pretty good deals on notebooks. I'd get through, rather than a busy signal or the automated "we've sold everything out" just to wait for up to 20 minutes and nobody ever too my order!

I put up with this garbage for over 9 hours now with not a SINGLE successful purchase!!!
Don't waste your time on this incredibly poorly executed promotion. It is a total joke! I would have been better off standing in line all night at BB for a mediocre deal than wasting my day on this crap! Anybody else have this experience as well? The site crashed almost continuously all day, Audio was almost impossible to understand.

Everything was so poorly done after the first half hour it was like watching a train wreck. I used to be a diehard CompUSA customer when they were local but I highly doubt I'll ever order from TigerDirect/CompUSA again. My experience was so bad I don't know if I can ever forgive them! Maybe I could but it would take an incredible gesture on their part!

I watched for the entire time frame, and let's say I sorta wish I didn't give up my shift tonight (though I would of wanted tonight off anyways) and I got a router after calling for stuff I didn't even care for that much.....so lets hope the router ships at least.

OMG I swear is was a scam. The phones were always busy or if you did get through you'd be on hold for 4:00 and get disconnected. In the live chat NO ONE was getting through but yet they were selling out items. I bet they ended up in the back of trucks at these discounted prices only to end up on Ebay to line these guy's pockets. I am sure CompUSA, TigerDirect, and all the companies that donated items had their hearts in the right place but hiring these bozos to handle the selling of these items was a huge mistake. What a joke, what a scam.

Out of over 500 calls i made to the various numbers over the course of about 8 hours, I made it in the queue about 10 times. Was disconnected 9 of those times after listening to music for a few minutes.
1 time a person answered and said "hello", I responded by saying good evening, and than they hung up.
When I found out they had just a few of most items, I was pissed, very very pissed.
The amount of merchandise they had is adequate for a target audience of a couple hundred people not 6000 at any moment.
And the limitations of the phone systems, not to mention the numerous ways people can cheat such a system... This entire thing was a scam.

They said they made a little over $42,000 dollars.

You can now guess how many merchandise 6000 people had to fight over these, IF they had any AT ALL!

I too was in the queue many times. I timed it and at 4:45 seconds of music and messages, the phone would go dead basically. One time I waited for 28 minutes and nobody showed up. Meanwhile there where still saying that they had plenty of the 32" TVs.

Another time I got through immediately and the recording said the item was already sold out. No way that could have been. I called back several times and got the same message for that item EVEN AS THEY WERE SAYING THERE WERE MANY LEFT!!!

This was the most poorly executed promotion I have ever seen in my life. This is why CompUSA went under due to incompetence such as this. I basically pi$$ed my entire day and evening away on this. I probably will never, ever, ever buy from TigerDirect/CompUSA again. I'd rather pay BB's inflated prices than deal with this garbage again.

Prior to this promotion, I had a great opinion of TigerDirect. Truly, they were my favorite Etailer since there are no B&M stores near me now. Now they are in the absolute last place and I will be sure to let all my friends and coworkers to avoid them at all costs!

What a sham, and what a waste of a day. The few times I connected there was no music, no talking, nothing. Then it would disconnect after a few minutes. And if I called before, during, or after them telling the phone number, the Sold Out recording would play. What a joke.

I watched the whole thing. Sometimes I would actually get to talk to someone and they said they just sold out. GRRR

Data service unavailable...Call cannot be connected...Busy tones...The only thing I got out of it was probably a free flash drive. I couldnt hear the names because I was on 2 different phones at once trying to get in

Yeah.. so much for making a $100,000 minimum donation. Big waste of time.

I did it for an hour last night, my theory is that smart people sat there all day calling the various numbers they used throughout the day, whether or not they had announced it on tv. That seems like that's the only way to possibly get through. I feel bad for those who watched for 12 hours straight, but seriously at some point you had to realize you were pissing in the wind, just like I did after an hour. I do think it was bs and just a way to get tech minded people to stare at their websites for 12 hours.

Sadly at the end they were just using the built-in webcam to televise it all. I couldn't believe it. I wouldn't be so ticked off if I hadn't actually got through several times, told I had made it, then have nobody actually take my order all the while the hosts were telling us there was still product left.

When the phone went dead after 4 minutes 45 seconds the first time I was really ticked off. From that point on it was a matter of seeing if it would happen each time. I appreciate the attempt for the cause and I regularly donate to worth causes but this gave them a black eye. Quite often they would move onto the next product while I was still stuck in the queue waiting for someone to take my first order.

They should have been better prepared. This was really pathetic. If managed my professional career the same way these guys did I'd be canned in a minute. I'd personally like to see Tiger/CompUSA do something to make it up to us. If not, I'll never buy from them again. I tend to spend quite a bit on tech stuff each year. I can't stand BB any more and I am tired of paying $90 for a gold plated HDMI cable. Heck, for that price it should have been made of gold not just plated!

At least with the old CompUSA I expected and received consistent mediocrity ever time. I am ashamed I wasted so much time on this promotion. I really wanted to do something to help and possibly get something I could use. My kids and I have done several "walks" for the Cure and our company typically contributes heavily to this foundation.

In some ways appreciate what the hosts went through as I know it couldn't be easy for them too but somebody should have pulled the plug early on and rescheduled it for some other day after the difficulties were worked out.

I called and got through about 5 times. Of those 5 times only once i got through to a rep. The other 4 times the wait was taking to long or i would eventually get hung up on. The one time i got through was for the pink wireless N router, i didn't care it was pink but immediately when i heard the call go through i said hello a bunch of times, i was on the line for about 4min total till the rep spoke to me. I gave him the # PINK 8243 to see if i could buy the xbox early(this was around 730pm EST) He told me it would be up for bidding at 1030pm. I said can i get the router or anything else, he said the routers gone and i could get nothing else. So i waited and sure enough xbox went up just around 1030. The site had its problems but it was absurd that they said the systems sold out when they didn't even manage to sell one since the lines were down, then they moved on to the xbox360 controllers and said oh wait we have xboxs. The whole time i was calling and couldnt get through, when i did the recording said the xbox was sold out. I felt like it was a scam but after thinking about it i think it was just run very poorly. I managed to speak to a live person once so i don't think these items were sold to family and friends like others have stated. I just think with the high demand it was hard to get in on the deal. I really wish i could have gotten something.

Someone mentioned that you could buy as many of one item as you wanted and there was no strict order to when the items showed up.. meaning if you got through you could order any of the products. This is not true, i got through and they said you HAVE to wait till the item goes up on the webcast, just want to know if anyone else had a similar experience as i did.

Seconded! The Susam B Komen foundation could have ended up with a far greater amount had this been thoroughly planned and tested before hand. They can't really blame it on Ustream as the Shiba Inu puppy cam had more viewers and was rockstable all the time. So the glitches definately were on their side. Disgraceful for what calls itself a tech company and e-tailer.

Also the comments from the one 'host' about the death at the Wal-Mart in Long Island were absolutely way over the line and uncalled for.

CompUSA/TD has been moved way, way down on my list of suppliers. The'll have to be considerably lower in price than eg the Egg or Fry's for me to even consider buying from them again.

That was by far the worst black friday experience I've ever had!

Wavshrdr
11-29-2008, 08:42 PM
I concur. I'd have to say this is the worst "Pink Friday" I've ever had as well as the worst Black Friday experience ever.

I think they tried to rush it too much at the end to just try and wrap it up. Sort of a let's just get it over with before something breaks again as I'm already tired of dealing with this ... blah blah blah ... yada yada yada attitude.

On a somewhat more positive note, I was able to somewhat rescue my BF weekend thanks to Amazon. At least that was one Etailer that didn't let me down.

I was trying to analyze what all went wrong but it was just a comedy of errors. I think the most galling thing for me was actually getting through, being put on hold and then nobody every taking your order. It is like winning the lottery, taking your winning ticket to the lottery office and the clerk who should give your winnings to you just disappears on you. Next clerk comes along and says "Too bad, you lose because you didn't cash it in on time!"

I thought this crap happens only in foreign countries. I lived in a few and saw this go on more often then I care to remember. In America it is pretty lame. What is the point of being masters of technology in this country and then you can't route your way out of a paperbag? I thought I was watching a telethon from Somalia at times. Maybe in a few months I'll look back and laugh my butt off. Anybody have any video of this? I'd love to put together a video compilation of a "best of" moments and use it as a teaching moment for friends and family. Sort of like that TV my GF likes "What Not to Wear", we could do a "What Not to Do" type program.

wouldnt have mind if they just said we only have 1, 10 50 or what ever of each item. at times they made it seem like there was 1000 of what ever when prob only a few. glad it was for a good cause but they really dropped the ball they would have made more money just auctioning the items off. heck if you could just enter your name into the computer and they would call you if you won the chance to buy. i could come up with so many other ways and i am sure others can up with 100 better ways of doing it.

I can't even put into words what a waste of time this was. I did get through to the line many times because I figured out the trick (just call another number) and they ask you what you're calling to buy anyway...the whole call a specific phone number thing was a scam. The whole thing was a scam. I got hung up on at least 10 times, I got connected once for the DLP tv and they actually offered it to me..I turned it down..no room, no one to sell it to......anyway, I think they had 1 or 2 of some items and they were selling a broken S10 so f them. I'll never order from TigerDirect/Compusa... It seemed like a hoax and the guys were just getting more and more assholish by the moment.

8-0 Woohhh...I'm glad I stayed away from this train wreck. I heard about it on SD a few days ago, checked out their website and man, the website looked like crap, like a bad infomercial. The content was horrible....hard to find (partial) list of items for auction and then the video took forever to load and sometimes audio was out of sync. I had a premenition this thing would blow up. I feel for my fellow SDers :'( hey, there's still Cyber Monday, right?

I wrote Tiger's customer service department expressing my dismay with how the whole thing was handled during the middle of the debacle. Today I received a reply back. Here is an excerpt from their reply (typical form letter so far)

"Dear Valued Customer:

We apologize for the inconvenience. Your issues and concerns will be forwarded to the correct department. We constantly strive for customer satisfaction and hope this incident will not change your opinion of TigerDirect.com."

We'll see how this goes. I don't plan on just letting it fade away. Any charity deserves better than how this was handled. I'll see what happens at the next layer up the corporate food chain and report back. This truly has affected my opinion of their company.

Well nothing more after their first response. I think my complaints fell on deaf ears. Really no surprise there. I would have thought that at least given the type of the promotion for a worthy cause, they would have followed up with my complaint. This further reduces my already low desire to shop with them ever again.
