Hi
Buyers of HP laptops/desktops/Printers on Black friday who havent got their cashback emails till now can express your views here.
kindly post "laptop/desktop will be returned" or "laptop/desktop will not be returned" if microsoft does not give you 40% cashback, so that we can estimate the number of people affected because of live.com
i bought 1 laptop and 1 printer
My plan of action ---- "laptop and printer will be returned"

Please mention the number and the type of product-laptop/desktop that you may return if cashback return. This may help in estimating the number of goods that will be returned

I bought a desktop solely because it was 40%. If I don't get that money back there's no way I'm keeping it.

Desktop will be returned if Microsoft does not give me the 40% cashback. Unless, of course, HP makes good on the offer some other way.

No CB it goes back no matter how much I need one. First will ask CB to honor their deal if that fails I'll give HP a chance to pick up the slack. If that fails I will return everything and will be eternally pissed at HP and MS (as if I didn't hate MS already).

As an aside this thread is pretty useless. Doubtful anybody with any type of integrity at all would sit back and let HP and MS tag team them like that.

Definitely returning. The price before without the cashback is not much a slick deal. There will probably be deals than the full HP price in the coming weeks.

This is laughable. Having a poll would imply the possibility of a vote for the second option.

A poll would show the number of people who want to return it though.

You can't. It will also be too late for a paypal dispute, or creditcard chargeback. You only get 60 days to dispute it. And with this deal they get 60 days, plus something like 14 days. I knew that sounded too good to be true.

You do know, 60 days from when this sale happened is Jan 26th right? So microsoft can screw everyone over with this deal. Same with HP.

I can't see them refusing to credit legitimate purchases. If they did decide to just randomly reject masses of people, they'd have some nasty media to deal with as well as a rather large class-action lawsuit. Given the poor public reception of Vista as well as the negative press surrounding the Xbox 360's failure rate and the lawsuits it spawned, I can't see them doing something that they know will get them into another fiasco.
Basically, paying a bunch of Slickdealers their Cashback credits is a lot cheaper than going into damage control mode and paying for lawyers. So that'd be the financially-wise decision and therefore most likely the actual outcome.
However, in the event I'm wrong and short a few hundred dollars because of Microsoft deciding to be dishonest, I will be absolutely ready to form a class-action lawsuit.

I have a few questions regarding this whole HP + Live.com disaster...
I tried for about 6 hours to log in and when I finally got through - I went bananas and bought a desktop, 25 inch monitor and laptop for about $2300. I DEFINATELY can't afford this but $1400 was within my budget... Returning everything if no CB.
But if everything ships - who pays for the return postage? I'm guessing the desktops are going to be pricey to mail back...
Is everyone here not receiving any cash back on their live.com site and no email confirmation? And is everyone waiting "up to a few weeks" for the live.com support to look into their accounts?
Lastly, I doubt there will be any lawsuits. Who would spend the $$$ on lawyers to get back a few hundred back on a purchase? It would be nice! But very unlikely... Unfortunately, the only thing that will happen to Live.com is that it will lose a bunch of SD'ers and that's not going to effect their profits by much...

Just a question - How are people going to return the items when CB takes 60 days to clear?? (which is after the Jan 15th date) Surely then you have no option to return to HP??

Does anyone have a problem returning or cancel their Hp order?
Try to cancel the order twice already because never get 40% CB confirmation but I never get a confirm cancelation of the order from HP.
Can you still returning the product to HP after reaching you without any hassle from HP?

I WILL be returning my laptop and printer and will be spreading the word how live.com making life miserable!
And I saw a question about return shipping costs, what needs to be done to avoid paying for the return shipping.

I'm aware of that but if Microsoft does decide to screw over a lot of people, it will be a PR disaster. They're already getting enough bad press right now and I doubt they want to make it any worse.

Refuse the delivery of the package. Then UPS/Fed Ex send it back to HP and you don't pay a penny.
Just hope they don't leave it without a signature, like they do with all my stuff

Idk if this OT or should be posted elsewhere; here's my experience...
I was initially only planning to get a cheapo desktop if I got through w/ the 40% CB tunnel. But I too went wacko after BARELY getting through at the last minute around 9:50pm EST. On the Nov28 BF evening when I was failing to get through I, in the meantime, setup an account on HP and saved certain my cart configurations.
Then when I somehow got through w/o CAPTCHA window??? I logged into my hp acct and added many but not all configs (desktop+printer, laptop+monitor+printer, mini+printer, and accessories to be used w/ the pretty sweet hp rebates offer 1042). Since I didn't want to take the chance to further tinker w/ my earlier configs, I just added like mad into a single order and proceeded in haste to checkout via AMEX and submitted at 9:57pm.
Afterwards received HP Order Accepted confirmation email at 10:12pm EST. More/most important 3.5hrs later, I rec'd Cashback live confirmation email stating "You received $1xxx.xx from your HP Home & Home Office Store purchase on 11/29/2008:" this single and only MS CB email showed all items totalling entire order w/ each itemized at 40% off. Yesterday, I already rec'd the printers & monitors: pc's have yet to be built/shipped.
Now my question...
As all this was successfully placed in a single order... I'm debating to return the mini (got 16gb SSD) and my fear is that after 60 days my entire MS CB can go down the toilet.
As I would want only its returned items' cb be void, what do y'all think

Keep it, and if you dont want it, sell it and pass some of the savings on to someone else. You'll still have made out and theres no risk of your cashback being denied.

I will definitely return my tablet if I don't get the cashback showing up in my account. I have emailed microsoft several times and will continue to email them everyday until I get something either showing in my account or saying that I don't get it. I am really looking forward to the tablet, so I really hope that it goes through

Microsoft said that it, in fact, won't be able to restart a Black Friday promotion with HP.com that many were unable to take advantage of because of glitches with the Live Search Cashback program.
In a blog posting on Friday, Microsoft said that, although it is working to give those who ordered products their promised 40 percent discount, those who were not able to place an order are, essentially, out of luck.
"There have been lots of questions on whether the 40 percent off HP promotion on Black Friday will be restarted," Microsoft said in the posting. "While we were hoping to be able to do that, we are sorry to report that it will not be restarted."
A Microsoft representative had indicated earlier this week that the promotion would be restarted, although a statement on Tuesday indicated that might not occur.
While this is bad for bargain hunters, it may end up being worse for Microsoft, which is trying to use the Live Search Cashback program as a way to build awareness and loyalty for its search product.
