im about to pop the lock on the wallet and purchase my first LCD TV. whoever reads this and drops some helpful knowledge on me, i want to thank you in advance!
my budget is $600 and its for my room so 32" is plenty, but i certainly don't mind going bigger. i would like to buy from a costco, walmart, best buy or circuit city for a two reasons. first, so i can get an extended warranty/service plan with it, and if i have to use it, i dont have to ship the tv to get repaired. second, if i buy online, i can option to pick up in-store or return in-store to avoid shipping charges. is my logic here correct or have i been misinformed?
ive read that 720p is enough resolution for a 32", but i do a lot of video editing, so im considering a 1080p so i can double it as a monitor for my mac.
so far, the most bang for the buck i've found is this sceptre from costco..
http://www.costco.com/Browse/Prod...=11280646#
i know the name isn't sexy, but i dont care about that, just as long as it performs.
ive read in reviews for this tv that the remote has a 4-10 second delay when changing channels. has anyone else experienced this? and if i am using a hd tuner from time warner, with a time warner remote, will the delay still occur?
any other suggestions, recommendations or general ridicule is surely welcome. thanks again!

I have the 720P version of that 32" Sceptre and it is rock solid. It has a very basic remote. Channel changes don't take anywhere near 4-10 seconds. When I was getting HD stations over my Comcast analog cable line it took 2-3 seconds between each channel change. I think because it was using QAM. Now I have a Dish Network HD tuner and it is more like 1 second.
After owning the 32" LCD TV for awhile, and having it in our bedroom, it seems pretty small. You might want to try and jump up to a 37" if you can. The Vizio 37" 1080P is $650-ish and could come into your price range before long. It's amazing how much bigger a 37" TV is than a 32".
If you're sure the 32" is the right size, then you have found the best option in my opinion. Buying from Costco doubles the warranty and allows easy returns. I wouldn't get the extended warranty because LCD TV's are so reliable. According to Consumer Reports, failure rates are only between 1-4%. Definitely buy a $25-$30 surge protector that protects your power and cable connections before they go into the TV.
Good luck...

that was my first thread on SD and this is my first reply. from what ive gathered, a "rep" is a way to say thank you, so that is exactly what i shall do. thanks again!

Vizio 37 is really good, I saw one at Walmart for within 600. You can also check the price at Walmart.com, usually they change price every day for some of these models.
I am looking for a 40 42 or 46 and beleive me Vizio came as really good. We have spent hrs in Sams, Walmart CC etc looking at all these LCD's and my rating is Samsung, Sony and Vizio. Samsung and Vizio were very much alike, I know it would be tough to digest though, but trust me and do a side by side comparison of these 2 brands.

Are you sure you don't want to buy it online? The price is good for a Westinghouse 37" 1080P I saw at Buy.com just today. $529.99 + FS
Check it out:

BTW-It comes with 1 year warranty. However, I'm not sure if they would sell you extended warranty but you should look into it

It's a membership based warehouse store that mostly sells bulk items, similar to Sam's Club if you have those.

after learning about squaretrade im definitely considering using an online only retailer. have you ever heard of any bad experiences with squaretrade? and thanks for the link!

Well the tvs from BUY.com are sold out already. But, personally I've never heard of someone having a bad experience with squaretrade you should check this (http://www.nextag.com/SquareTrade~3300135zzzreviewsz1zmainz17-htm)web site out. According to it some people have had bad experiences just like other people have had bad experience with warranties from B&M stores. So I'd say it is up to you if you really want to buy from an online store. However, buying online is a common thing now days. I personally have boughten lots of stuff online even computers.
