It's a present for my pops for xmas. Id rather go with a B&M store just in case anything happens to it, but i would order from a reputable company online. Looking for a 42"... does not have to be 1080p, 720 is just fine. I was looking at the Panny Viera:
Panasonic Viera TH-42PX80U 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV (http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-Viera-TH-42PX80U-42-Inch-Plasma/dp/B00142HLV4/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1228280972&sr=8-1)

Looks to have received good reviews on amazon and cnet. I found a shop out here that would sell it for 750, but that amazon store has it for 725, and amazon has it for 736.

If you have any better recommendations or can find me a good deal i'd appreciate it. I wish i would have known thats what im going to get him a week ago!

With tax, comes out even more than Amazon :)

Here's a couple of comparable deals goin on right now
here (50" 720p) (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=72001&t=1048223)
here (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=72001&t=1051008) (42" 1080p)
and here (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=72001&t=1048282) if you live near the NY area.

I'd personally go for the one at Tiger Direct, but some don't like that company
Edit: ack...didn't realize that one is OOS since I last saw it
