I need a new laptop for work, but don't want to spend over $400. Processing power is a must, especially for multi-tasking. Can anyone recommend anything?

If no specific recommendations, what are some general specs i should be looking for?

Either of those will be fine for work, if work is mostly using Outlook, Word, Excel and other like programs.

Looks like the HP is OOS, so snag the Toshiba.

Multitasking is also dependent on RAM, not just CPU power.

definitely. if you're talking about having a lot of applications open at once, you'll definitely want a lot of RAM, at least 1 gig if you're on Windows XP. since RAM is cheap, go for 2+ gigs.
