Members Only

I'm sure this has been covered before, but I would like to see some areas, especially the coupon forum, available to members only. If people don't want to register here, then why should they benefit by using coupons that members post -- and then not even post that the coupon's been used???

general feeling by the mods/mr sd is that the site is open to anyone. if at all it'd just create more blank accounts where people registered to see the deal and just didn't post (we aren't looking to up registration).

if the coupon OP want's to give a 1 time use to a member, use the pm system.

Although I agree with you 100%, and I even made a post about it, it won't ever happen.

Having a members only required section would discourage people from looking at slickdeals, which would eliminate some of the clicks refferal links on the front page, which is less money for SlickDeals.

And as arjunsr pointed out, all the cool names would be taken, because everyone around us would take them.

It is a good suggestion, and I guarentee you that although Mr. SD himself may not post, but he does read over these all the time.

Think in the minds of business and money making.

True Ricky but thousands of people simply read and don't contribute every day- you don't honestly think there are enough registered SDers to take down a great deal in minutes do you? Yet it happens often...

I agree with Arjunser, however in previous discusions on this I do think there should me limitations put in place for non registered (guests) users versus registered members. The click through from the front page is unaffected by the forums....think about that for a minute. the issue is sheer traffic for the forums. requiring members would decrease traffic in the forums and click through there.

I'm not sure yet how restrictions should be implimented, but I think they would benifit the SD community as a whole- reguardless of the desire or no desire for membership (since it's not about that).

Actually I think making the forums more noticible and accessible would be a big improvement too. I was on the site for 2 weeks before I found the forums- the guy who introduced me to SD was on it for months before I showed him the forums.....
am I am an intelligent, average individual (tho some may argue)- imagine how many people only view the main page....
