Where is the best place to ship packages? I thought Staples didn't charge a surcharge on UPS shipments but I mailed a package earlier this week and it cost me $18 when on UPS.com it says it should have cost me 11? From what I hear The UPS store also charges a comission. What about Fed-Ex Kinko's? Or should I just buy a should I just buy a scale and print labels my self?

bump...

I have a new idea, I stop by USPS self service thing at the post office and then I can get the weight and print the label myself. Is there any website where you can just put in all of the box info and then it calculates USPS, UPS, Fed Ex etc costs to ship??

Did either of you even try looking at google? really?

Anyways, USPS, Fedex and UPS all let you ship straight from their website. Print a label and drop it in the associated box and you are good to go. There is a size limit for USPS mailboxes and FedEx boxes I think only allow real fedex (no ground)...not sure about UPS boxes. Either way, there are many locations where they can be dropped off without a surchage. Just had them the package and if it has a label on it already they will just put it straight into the next truck.

For USPS I actually prefer using paypal shipping to the USPS website. At least for selling things that warrant delivery confirmation (half.com et. al.) it will save you about 60 cents.

umm yea. Thanks for trying to help, but I already know everything you just said....

I know I can ship straight from their websites, but it is hard when you don't know how much something weighs. I have a shipping scale, but it only goes up to 5 lbs. As I posted before I have started just using the USPS self service machine to get the weight.
The main purpose of my original question was is there a place where you can just take your package to them, have them weigh it and ship it with no surcharge for UPS and Fed Ex. And I was asking if there is a site where you can just put in the info one time and it tells you the shipping cost with all 3 carriers without having to to go each of their websites and enter in the info.

I also prefer Paypal Shipping to USPS online shipping because it will allow you to print labels for Media Mail etc while (last time I checked) you could only do priority etc on the USPS Website.

have you ever tried shipgooder.com ?? it has always worked pretty well for me when trying to compare prices for USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL. You just enter in info like zip codes, weights, and package dimensions, and it will give you all the rates. You would have to weigh the package yourself, but at least it gives you all rates at once.
