I have placed in the wiki everything I remember about CVS coupons from what people have reported or from my own experience. Here are some guidelines for updating the wiki:

-If you have more updated or correct information, and others can confirm it
-If you want to change my wording or info presentation for more clarity and understandability
-If you want to add commonly-known info I simply missed noting
I'm just starting this thread to get the ball rolling. Everyone, please help out! I know there are experienced CVSers out there who can test and confirm some of this information at their customer-friendly stores.
I can already see a need for the following info in the wiki:
-what about CVS home mailer q's?
-what about CVS %off Friends & Family q?

CVS Coupon Guide
13-digit CVS q's
-some expire promptly on expiration date given
-one-time use only: once scanned, that particular 13-digit q can never be used again, even if you void the order & start afresh; on the 2nd attempt, register will say already redeemed on mm-dd-yyyy
-$/$$ limited to one purchased-based coupon per transaction
12-digit CVS q's found in-store or in newspapers, magazines, and other publications
-expire 15 days from expiration date given
-limited to one coupon of the same barcode per transaction
12-digit CVS $/$$ q's emailed periodically
-always beep as "not valid for card scanned" if you did not directly receive the email
-often beep anyway even if you did directly receive the email
-sometimes work without beeps if you directly received the email
-most expire when they say; on a rare occasion, certain ones expire 15 days from expiration date given
-limited to one coupon of the same barcode per transaction in certain areas
-limited to one purchased-based coupon per transaction
12-digit CVS product-specific q's emailed
-work without beeps even if you did not directly receive the email
-expire 15 days from expiration date given
-limited to one coupon of the same barcode per transaction
9-digit CVS q's from register receipt
-work only on EC Card for which they were issued
-expire promptly on expiration date given, and in some cases, at the exact hour/minute issued
-limited to one coupon of the same first 5 digits (of the 9-digit code) per transaction
-if used in a transaction that is then voided (so you get CRT back), next time you use it will beep "not valid for card scanned" even though it is for the right EC card.
-if expired & beeps "expired" and you get it back, next time you use it will beep "not valid for card scanned" even though it is for the right EC card.
9-digit CVS daily recurring q's from price checker/coupon printer
-examples: $2/$10 CVS Brand, $1/2 Gold Emblem Candy, $2 Gold Emblem Water 6pk or larger
-work only on EC Card for which they were issued
-CVS Brand $/$$ expire on the expiration date noted
-CVS Brand product-specific q's are good though the very last expiration date that will be available. For example, if a $1 Skin Care coupon printed last week and is also printing this week, the last one of these will be issued on Saturday 4/17, good for a week from Saturday (4/24). That means that all of them you have will actually work thru the 24th.
-most of the time, can use multiples per transaction... although you just never know with CVS... :)
-if used in a transaction that is then voided (so you get CRT back), next time you use it will beep "not valid for card scanned" even though it is for the right EC card.
-if expired & beeps "expired" and you get it back, next time you use it will beep "not valid for card scanned" even though it is for the right EC card.
9-digit CVS $/$$ or product-specific q's from price checker/coupon printer
-examples: $5/$25, $1 Almay, $4/$20 Playskool, $2 Colgate Toothpaste
-work only on EC Card for which they were issued
-expire promptly on expiration date given
-if used in a transaction that is then voided (so you get CRT back), next time you use it will beep "not valid for card scanned" even though it is for the right EC card.
-if expired & beeps "expired" and you get it back, next time you use it will beep "not valid for card scanned" even though it is for the right EC card.
Notes:
-actual CVS q's begin with 4
-9-digit CVS q's from your receipt or the price checker/coupon printer are called CRT's
-using expired CVS q's is YMMV, even if they work without beeps; some stores take them, some don't
-exceptions may occur due to store-specific programming of their registers
-exceptions may occur due to cashier error

Wow. You did an excellent job, nearsighted. Thank you! This was a great idea.. I don't have a lot to contribute, as I just started CVS'ing hardcore - so I am still a newbie..

What about the 5 digit codes where they mention cashier, enter code YYYYY?
The 5 digit codes where they mention, "Cashier, please enter: XXXXX" is considered a 12 digit code. If you look closely on those 12 digit codes, the first 5 numbers are exactly the same as the 5 digit code they mentioned for cashier to enter in ;)

I live in MD and often use multiple 4 off 20 coupons in one day. I am not sure why there is a MD restriction in the wiki, but I have CVSed all over MD and never had that problem.

The $10/50s that printed from the scanner caused all the other CRTs to beep, so it should be used last - if the cashier will take it last. I tried having the cashier scan my card a second time, but it made no difference. Other CRTs still beeped.
A few days later I went back to the same CVS with another $10/50 and a more coupons friendly cashier told me she needed to use it last because of all the problems it causes. She used it at the end when my total was now way below $50 but above $10, and it scanned just fine - so it does work if the amount is less than $50.

Another vote for no MD restriction of mutiple uses of $4 off of $20. But I think there was a recent register upgrade that won't allow stacking. Yesterday I tried using a 4/20 and a 3/15 on the same transaction, the total was over $35 and my store allows me to do this, but the 3/15 beeped. My Jedi showed me the screen where it stated that a $ off of $$ had already been used, then she just overrode and gave me $3 off anyways. Gotta love those Jedis

To clarify, according to the different types of CVS q's listed out in the wiki, which type of CVS q's were the 4/20 & 3/15 you used?

Thank you for reporting! Maybe a new restriction is starting where once a purchase-based q is used, no other CVS q's may be combined with it... I have heard 1 or 2 reports that rescanning the card did not work; it may have been this kind of situation. We'll keep an eye on this one and see how it tests out.

I'm sorry I can't change CVS's rules for you, but I sure am happy you were able to use the CVS Coupon Guide to answer your question (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showpost.php?p=15263781&postcount=264) today! :bounce: And that you understood that line correctly! I had thought my wording there rather awkward and cumbersome but couldn't figure out how else to put it.

4/20 was a 12 digit, got from the iheartcvs site. 3/15 was a 13 digit, I think the ones they hand out at the pharmacy, I got from Ebay. I never had a problem using multiple $/$$ before, when it beeped the cashier said something about a register update, and she showed me the screen. It said something to the effect that a 4/20 had already been used for the order and it did not allow any more $/$$. HTH
Just in case it matters: my coupon order was the 4/20 first, 5 or 6 others including ECB's, then $5/2 duracell and the 3/15 last.

The CRT's from the scanner such as the GE nuts, towel paper, do not have an expiration date of 30 days. its much shorter than that.

The CVS coupon landscape has changed somewhat since I started CVSing a year ago, especially with the advent of the 13-digit CVS coupon and the issues associated with that. I thought it would be a good idea to hash out all the details of how the different CVS coupons work by garnering everyone's experience and coming to a consensus, not only for CVS newbies, but also for seasoned CVSers just tuning back in.
I have placed in the wiki everything I remember about CVS coupons from what people have reported or from my own experience. Here are some guidelines for updating the wiki:
-If you have new information, and others can confirm it
-If you have more updated or correct information, and others can confirm it

-what about CVS home mailer q's?
-what about CVS %off Friends & Family q?
-confirmation for anything I bracketed with question marks
-for more clarity, individual posts with examples/exceptions; then link to the examples from that specific wiki info
Once we have a consensus, our moderator can decide where best to put this, whether to leave as is, or to merge it into the CVS FAQ thread. Having this information confirmed and located in one place for all to reference will benefit us all.
Happy CVSing!
Thank OP for coupons, By the way I have a question. I got several Extra bucks for CVS which will be expired soon. Can I buy something using them and return the things to get money because I can't use all the Extra Bucks before expiration. Thank you so much.

No you can't buy something using them and return the things just to get the money because your ECB's are expiring. This is considered fraud and you will ruin it for everyone down the line.
This will also be no more discussion about this topic (returning things to get money because you can't use all the Extra Bucks).
This is a coupon guide -- not a guide on how to scam CVS.

kelmac252, thank you for the detailed information! That is exactly what I was looking for.
marcia, thank you for reporting in! Do you happen to remember if those particular q's had at least an expiration PAST the date given?
I will update the wiki with both your contributions.
To everyone else, please report your CVS coupon experiences... the more detailed & specific (i.e. cashier shows you the message on the register screen, order of coupon presentation), the better. Even if someone already reported it, I would still like 2 or 3 more people to confirm, especially if the confirmations are coming from different parts of the country.
My main goal is to get the coupon guide to a fairly complete & accurate condition that anyone using it will have a smooth & problem-free experience at the register. Another consideration... pretty soon, we will have an influx of CVS newbies from Hawaii, Northern California, etc., due to CVS's purchase of Long's. If the coupon guide can provide a good overall picture of how CVS coupons work, they can come here to find the answers to their CVS coupon questions. It'll minimize repeat questions in the other threads. In fact, they can even post their questions here. Any detailed examples/answers can be linked to from the corresponding info in the wiki.
ETA: Everyone, please let me know if you see any mistakes in the wiki. Thanks!

I got this post from another CVS thread:
I used both CRT's in 1 transaction for the 2 totes I got. I got another CRT making it my 4th one for the tote bags so I have now done this deal again with no problem or beeps for both CRT's. It says on the CRT to use it towards 1 tote so since I bought 2 I was allowed to use 2 $5 CRT's for the totes. I plan to scan my card every day this week to keep getting the $5 CRT's which seems to be printing for me daily. I just wait to use 2 at one time to get the best price on this sale.
the EOB tote CRTs probably share the same first 5 digits but went through? does this mean the rule changed? :bounce:
-limited to one coupon of the same first 5 digits (of the 9-digit code) per transaction

That particular $5 EofB tote q has had issues from the beginning, beeping as "item not found" even when the customer seemed to be buying the correct tote. My guess is the store may have been so aware of the issue, the cashier automatically entered the q manually for the customer without even scanning it or bringing the customer's attention to it. It's possible too that CVS corporate or that particular store may have done something to their register system for that one q because of its obvious issues.
But, just to test the limitation rule, I tried two of the following CRT's in one transaction tonight. These CRT's came from the price checker/coupon printer.
"Save $1.00 on any 2 Gold Emblem Nuts, Pretzels or Crackers"
-1st q scanned without issue, 2nd q beeped when scanned
-q expired 11/25/08, so q was 21 days expired
I'll update the wiki with the expiration info.

that sounds right. there's also a problem with the CVS gold emblem water 6pk or larger CRT. even the first one beeps & is not expired.
The gold emblem water CRT beeped for me and said, "Can only use one $x/$xx based coupon at a time" when trying to purchase the 24 pack of gold emblem water.
But when I buy (3) 24 packs of gold emblem water (+filler) and get my total above $15.00 -- then use a $3/$15 first then the gold emblem water CRT -- the gold emblem water CRT goes through without any problems.
So if you use the gold emblem water CRT by itself the register considers it as an $x/$xx and claims you are trying to use too many $x/$xx -- but if you use it with an $x/$xx it scan right through.
Yes, I am  at why the CVS register system was doing that.

I used a $4/20 CVS q, & the gold emblem water CRT was one of the last ones. I always get the cashiers to scan the $4/20 first.
I did have a few of these CRTs. One expiring 12/12,12/13,12/16 & 12/17. I tried using the 12/12 (expired). That didn't go through. So I gave the cashier the 12/13 (not expired), and it still beeped. :lmao: But he pushed it through, when I just wouldn't budge until he did something about it. :shake:
So now I have the 12/12(expired), 12/16 (expired) and the 12/17 to use, but I'm afraid they'll beep. Not all cashiers will push a CRT through for me, if it beeps and that's why most of them are expired now. :(
I'm wondering if it's because of this rule:
-CVS Brand product-specific q's expire at least 21 days from expiration date given or expire when a new q for the same product type begins issuing, whichever occurs first
so does it mean the CRT will expire BEFORE the specified date if a similar CRT is issued? and my 12/17 one will expire in 21 days?
or is there a problem with this CRT overall?

too bad i didn't see this thread earlier. here's my experience
bought 9 promax bars for $15 and used the pharm $3/15. tried using ECB for the remaining $12 balance but it beeped and cashier showed me screen saying coupon limit reached or something. didn't know what to do and didn't want to actually pay for the bars so she just voided entire transaction and handed me back the coupon
went to another cvs and tried the same thing but the scanned/voided $3/15 wouldn't work. cashier showed me screen and it said it was already redeemed. handed him another one and it worked. tried paying with ECB and it beeped again but this time he asked for my card and rescanned it and then the ECBs went through fine.
pretty much learned the hard way what i couldve learned from reading here. oh well. repped you Nearsighted. Thanks.

Excellent info on the $2 CVS GE water q! I think I need to add a section in the wiki for current problematic CVS q's. It will at least alert people to the issues.
Given other people's reports so far on using different $/$$ q's together, it sounds to me like the $4/$20 email sign-up q is coded as a purchase-based coupon that prevents it from being combined with other "true" purchase-based q's, like the possibly incorrectly coded $2 Gold Emblem water q or the 13-digit $3/$15's. And that the 13-digit $/$$ q's are not coded with this limitation. Would love to hear more from others about this... for example, has anyone tried to use two 13-digit $3/$15 q's in one transaction on a $30 order?
Oops, sorry, konmai, for my poor wording. I'll change it to reflect what I actually mean. To explain... CVS will issue a recurring q, like "$1 off 2 boxes of CVS tissues", that prints daily from the price checker/coupon printer. The first 5 digits of this 9-digit q will all be the same... let's say code 40001xxxx. The q will actually work without beeps for a certain period beyond the expiration date on the coupon... let's say 30 days. If CVS puts out a new recurring q for "$1 off 2 boxes of CVS tissues" with a new code of 40002xxxx, all previous codes of 40001xxxx will beep. The new code for that product type supersedes the old code for that product type. So, although you may have happily used several of your code 40001xxxx for 2 or 3 weeks beyond expiration, you may suddenly find your week-old one doesn't work. This is just what I've gathered from my own observation & experience. I welcome any confirming or contradictory information. :)
iverson1, I'm sorry about your experience. :( What happened to you is exactly why I started this thread.

I used the 4/20 twice today with different CRTs/Beauty Book coupons with no problems.
We finally finally got a scanner so I happily scanned my cards and got tons of CRTs which I immediately used - ie $1.00 hershey candy, $3 off $8 haircare (brought two of the big Pantenes on clearance for $4.00 - used two $2.00 MFG coupons, six promax bars and three hersey bars -had a bogo but got three to get to $20) Ended up paying approx $8 and got back $14, so not bad at all.

You can just have them rescan your card if the register limits any of your MQs or ECBs to $3. And that will solve the issue. Just say, well another cashier had told me how to fix this, you have to rescan my card.

CVS has implemented some changes recently that is making it harder to tell if their registers will accept a certain combination of q's. Although using both the regular & specific $/$$ q's together has not beeped in the past, MistyQ reported an issue here (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showpost.php?p=15257301&postcount=8) with using a $10/$50. You should be able to get through the transaction without any beeps if you hand over the $5 off $15 cosmetics CRT first, and then the $10/50. Even if your total is below $50 the $10/50 will still work. Be aware though that the way some cashiers look at it, you are no longer spending $50 if you use your qs/CRTs first, which is absurd. They forget the couponing 101 rule: A coupon is a form of payment.

Thank you to EVERYONE who has reported information to this thread! CVS coupon rules are changing MUCH faster than I orginally thought. In this toss-up stage, as CVS shifts from the old methods we know to the new methods we're still learning, I am going to keep an updated "Current known problems" section at the top of the wiki. Any new and changing information will go here also until we have a solid enough picture to incorporate into the CVS Coupon Guide.
I have included as much identifying information as I know, like codes & exp dates, so anyone reading can immediately tell which coupon is being reported. Some information I just don't have because I don't get the coupons myself. But anyone can edit the wiki. If you know and can add more identifying info (like the $10/$50 & $5/$15 holiday CRT codes), please do. All help is welcome! :)

Did anyone save that $4 off $20 CVS Q? I cannot get the wiki version to print. I really need to print one more!

I have updated the "Current known problems..." section of the wiki. It is as follows:
Current known problems with particular CVS q's (updated 1/5/09)
1. $3/$15 code 47935000006
-beeps when used with the $2/$10 Pain Relief CRT code 47976xxxx- reported by BSmoronDetector (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showpost.php?p=15788701&postcount=633)
-beeps when used after the $4/$20 code 47955000004 due to register's limitation of purchased-based coupon use, even when transaction is $35 and over
??-some have reported no beeps when the $3/$15 is used before the $4/$20??
2. $1/2 Gold Emblem Candy CRT code 47937xxxx
-beeps even when correct items are purchased- reported by awshucks (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showpost.php?p=15841127&postcount=315)
-since this q did not beep for others, it may be coded for a specific range of products within CVS's Gold Emblem Candy line
3. $1/2 Gold Emblem Nuts, Pretzels or Crackers CRT code 47936xxxx
-beeps even when correct items are purchased- reported by goosiepiano (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showpost.php?p=15848322&postcount=363)
-since this q did not beep for others, it may be coded for a specific range of products
4. $4/$20 emailed q code 47955000004
-beeps when used with the $2 Gold Emblem water CRT code 45841xxxx due to issue with the water CRT- reported by konmai (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showpost.php?p=15445853&postcount=24)
5. "Save $2 on Gold Emblem Water, 6pk or larger" code 45841xxxx
-may be incorrectly coded as a $/$$ q
-beeps that purchase-based amount has not been met- reported by slayers750 (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showpost.php?p=15444538&postcount=23)
-beeps when used with $4/$20 email q code 47955000004- reported by konmai (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showpost.php?p=15445853&postcount=24)
6. $10/$50 CRT
-when scanned first, causes all subsequent CRT's to beep; no issues if used last- reported by MistyQ (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showpost.php?p=15257301&postcount=8)
Concerning the new $1/2 Gold Emblem CRT's... I'm not certain, but maybe these CRT's are coded for a specific range of products? Because the $1/2 Gold Emblem Nuts, Pretzels or Crackers did NOT beep for me when used on the following combo of products: $0.99 small bag of cashews & $0.79 pretzels, two bags of $0.79 pretzels.
The $1/2 Gold Emblem Candy CRT did NOT beep for my sister when she purchased two bags of peach rings, but DID beep for me when I used it on two bags of chocolate covered raisins & caramel nut clusters.
Hope all this info helps someone. And, of course, any added info is appreciated!

cool. thanks for the update. i can't rep for 24 hrs. :sleepy: i was thinking about using 2/10 pain crt with 3/15 but guess i will not now. don't want to call attention to myself with beeping qs. :lmao:
i have $1/2 candy crts as well as nuts, snacks, etc.. too. i'll probably lay off those, since i don't want pretzels. do the cashews taste good?

The 12 digit e-mailed coupons state "limited to one coupon of the same barcode per transaction" in the wiki. Last one I got e-mailed, I went to use it a second time and the cashier was like "you used this coupon already on this date".

Uh oh. Sounds like the beginning of something bad. Thank you for the info. Can you provide me with the coupon's code? Also, was this a q you received for signing up your email, or was this one of those usually sent out to a bunch of people during holidays and quarterly rewards? I'd like to know so I can update the right section in the wiki. Thank you!
Anyone else experience this in Forida or anywhere else in the country?
It seems, little by little, CVS is changing their system to be more and more restrictive. Now we can't even be sure CRT's for the purchase of the right products will beep "item not found." :shake:

tried using the $1/2 gold emblem candy CRT. beeped on both sour worms & peach. cashier checked the candy and my card #, & he wouldn't push it through. so i just got 1.
i asked him what can i use the coupon for. he shrugged and said he didn't know. if the cashier (also the shift supervisor by the way) doesn't know, how the heck am i supposed to know? :lmao:

Yes, I agree, the candy q and the nut/pretzel/cracker q seem to beep on everything. The first couple times I used the nut/pretzel one, it didn't, but now I'm wondering if the cashiers manually applied a discount while I was distracted. :dontknow: And though my sister said the candy q didn't beep on 2 bags of peach rings, she isn't known for watching the cashiers closely.
She's funny... If she's using a q on the right stuff, and the q beeps and the cashier tries to refuse it, she'll tell the cashier & the manager he calls up, "So deal with it. I bought the right items." And then she'll stand there and wait as the line grows longer and longer behind her. :)

your sister has guts! :bounce: i'm too chicken for that. :shake: i did email customer service about it.
at first, i got sour worms to try it out. beeped. then i remembered peach rings was mentioned to have worked. tried those. beep beep. :sleepy:
i wish i knew the q beeped on everything beforehand. i could have gotten paper towels instead for 99cents.

The coupon was a 4 off 20. It was e-mailed to me on 12/11 and was good thru 12/14. I am not 100% sure, but I believe the coupon's code was:
479550000004
cashier code 47955

Thank you for the info. I don't think the code is 47955, as that one is used multiple times by many. I updated the "periodically emailed $/$$" with your info. I also bracketed it with question marks to denote a need for others to confirm with the same experience.

I also bracketed it with question marks to denote a need for others to confirm with the same experience. It doesn't help that these things beep all the time as "not valid for card scanned" even for those who received it in their emails. The first beep is usually a big enough deterrent to keep people from using it a second time. :)
I found a thread where 2 different people reported only being able to use $/$$ e-mails coupons once per account. post #2 & #11

cashiers seem to put them through for me. This morning the cashier said "...these coupons aren't working today" to the manager as she manually took off $4 from my pepsi order.
**edit**
I used two more $/$$ coupons today and both didn't go through. They were actually e-mailed to me & I was using them on the appropriate accounts. ($4/$20 & $5/$30). The manager hassled me a little, but I got them to manually take off the $.

Looks like CVS is getting more restrictive with their $/$$ q's as there have been reports lately of even the 12-digit emailed $/$$ q's being one-time use only. In addition to deleting/crossing out some old info, I updated the CVS Coupon Guide to reflect this. Wow, at the rate CVS is honing their register system's acceptance of q's, I expect that eventually even CRT's will beep unless the specific item/size is purchased. If any of you find the following info inaccurate, please speak up.
12-digit CVS $4/$20 q's emailed for registering to receive EC email
??-work without beeps for any EC Card??
-expire 15 days from expiration date given
-limited to one coupon of the same barcode per transaction
-limited to one purchased-based coupon per transaction
-can be combined with the CVS Brand $/$$ CRT from the price checker/coupon printer
(I am striking out the above because most people receive emailed welcome q's in 13-digit, one-time use format. I think only in rare cases, like an open problem/issue with CVS, does someone receive a 12-digit q that can be used repeatedly per transaction.)
12-digit CVS $/$$ q's emailed periodically (usually near holidays & quarterly rewards)
-always beep as "not valid for card scanned" if you did not directly receive the email
-often beep anyway even if you did directly receive the email
-sometimes work without beeps if you directly received the email
-AND, in some areas, this 12-digit q is one-time use only, as reported by the following users:
shotcaller88 -West Palm Beach, FL (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showpost.php?p=16126463&postcount=40)
xIncognito -Northern VA (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showpost.php?p=16266349&postcount=349)

jamama -Northern NJ (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showpost.php?p=16284171&postcount=55)
-expire 15 days from expiration date given
-limited to one coupon of the same barcode per transaction in certain areas; one-time use only in other areas as already noted
-limited to one purchased-based coupon per transaction

First time using it and it scans fine....I tried using it a second time at a different store the next day and it beeps....cashier was nice enough to pushs it through.
FYI...i am in northern NJ

If a crt is scanned and then transaction is voided, then the second time this crt is scanned it beeps with the message "not for this card" even though it is for this card.
If an expired crt is scanned and beeps expired, then when the same crt is scanned the second time it beeps with the message "not for this card" even though it is for this card.
