I'm thinking of switching from Sams club to Costco. Are there any special deals going on when you sign up for Costco?
Thanks.

That's what I thought. I'm just failing to see how the linked membership is a "deal", at regular price

when you take membership through that link you get coupons worth $40
so in that case it is a deal

costco is a ripoff and has bad business practice. i would never patronize there again.
this past weekend, i went there to buy some items...went to checkout, the cashier informed me my membership expired as of last september. i recalled paying for renewal in jan. 08. they say my renewal will be effective on my anniversary date, and not the date i renewed it. wft!!??
so in essence, if i had renew it last weekend, i have to renew it again sept. 09...and not 12/09. bs crap! needless to say, i didnt renew.
why would someone want to renew 3months into the 12months? and not pay for a new membership for the same price? bad practice for consumers!

are you trying to say your membership will end on your anniversary date regardless of the date you bought a new membership?
So...if your anniversary date is september...and you renew in August....you would pay $50 and only get 1 month of membership from Costco? That doesn't seem right. I'll have to ask them about this...thanks for the heads up if there is any truth to this. I think besides something like this, they are one of the last few decent companies. Everyone is shady in some form or another....everyone wants money.

I sincerely doubt this happened exactly as you describe (there may have been something else going on behind the scenes, like your membership renewal in January didn't actually go through). When you renew, you pay for 12 months from your renewal date, not just up until your renewal date. We've paid early (though not quite that early) before, and we didn't get charged again on the anniversary date. Find your receipt or the charge on a statement. Costco's general policy is to refund your membership at any time if you're not happy, so I really think you must have run into a cranky rep (or a lazy one) or the transaction you remember didn't go through properly, or a combination of the above. If you can't find the receipt, they should still be able to look it up by your membership number and find the transaction, even if it didn't get applied properly.

Actually I had the same thing happen to me. But if you let so many months past without using your membership, you should consider whether it's really worth it. I decided that I rarely used my card and it was easier for me to find someone else with the card to go to the store with. However, if the lapse in usage is not normal for you, just go to customer service. You can actually just cancel an expired membership and sign up for a new membership effective that day. If you do cancel, just remember that an expired membership card is still good at their gas stations.

if you know someone with a costco membership, just have them buy you gift cards...
then you don't need a membership to shop there
