Im looking for a prepaid phone. I dont really make very many calls and mainly text so I figure Prepaid is the way to go. Does anyone have any suggestions of a good cheap company that they have used?

Thanks.

AT&T has some decent packages plus phone deals

Also there are some websites which give cashback on phone deals

just search there name on google as I think they are not allowed on SD

Well Tracfone or Net10 are the ones mentioned a lot. I dont use texting so Im not sure if they have good rates for that. Ive seen others mention it so maybe someone will post something on that aspect.

They are sold everywhere like Walmart, ODepot and online. There are cashback sites that will give a bit off if you order from Tracfone directly and other sites.

The main thing about Tracfone is they offer phones with double min for life --- meaning if you add 60 min you get 120. And they also have codes floating around all the time that often add even more time.

They have a cheapo version of their flat motorola style phone for 20 bucks. They also have the 376 with camera with DMFL for $29 at their site and often on sale at walmart and kmart etc.

60 min cards I think last 3 months for $20.

Net10 has great reception and the cheapest for calling, minor texting. 10/min calls, 5 to receive or send a text. You have to spend at least $15/month. $30 card for 2 months. Minutes roll over and service time accumulates if you top up early. Usually their website has phones you basically get for free with first activation. I.e., $30 for phone and $30 airtime. I love NET10. Virgin mobile has great texting plans, but you have to spend about $30/mo to get them. Also, around here, their service isn't nearly as good. Your area may differ.

I currently use t-mobile. While the minutes rate is not the best, I like the fact that after you have spent about $100 ( it can be incremental) your minutes have 1 year expiry. Most of the other plans force you to recharge every month.
The last time I recharged was 4 months back ( $25) and it is still going.

thanks for all the feedback, I did look at virgin mobile and tmobile before this thread and my thoughts were virgin mobile had good plans at .20/min and 20 dollar unlimited text and email but there phones are pretty expensive. Tmobile has that nice rollover plan but texting is expensive. I haven't looked at tracphone or net10 yet.

I just looked at trac phone and it looks like they have some really nice phones but I like the idea of a flat rate per minute i.e. .10/min or .20/min and I also couldnt find any info on texting.

also do prepaid phones let you carry over your old number?

I am new to TRACFONE, can somebody fill me in ....

My Questions:

#1. How does TRACFONE to TRACFONE work?

#2. How much does it cost to call members from other carriers?

#3. Does it charge for incoming calls?

#4. Can I use my sim card from ATT into this phone from TRACFONE?

#5. Can I transfer my existing cell# onto my new TRACFONE?

Would appreciate the help!
