here is the type i need:

1GB per stick DDR2 PC2-5300 speeds 667 MHz, 240 pin, non-ecc, 1.8v

there seems to only be amazing deals on RAM better than this which makes me mad. i should get this ram for free from stores just to take it off of their hands. i'm looking to hopefully get something that's $5 after a rebate for a kit of two sticks. but post some cheap deals. crucial.com has some 1GB sticks compatible with my system for $11.99 each so i'm wanting cheaper than that since i'm using that as the standard price. slick deal does not equal standard price :-)

Corsair is still carrying that rebate. I think I paid about $20 after rebate for 4GB. First, there is no reason you can't get faster RAM. If your motherboard isn't capable it will simply run at the slower speed. Secondly, you are better off getting 2x2GB rather than 4x1GB as it will save you on power consumption.

well, according to my motherboard, it won't read 2gb sticks. i checked into it and found out that my motherboard only supports memory that is up to pc2-5300 ddr2 ram up to 1gb in size. if you want to look it up for yourself feel free to show me what you found.

it's an HP Pavilion m7100y with Windows XP Media Center installed. purchased it the day after thanksgiving in 2004.

where is this corsair rebate?

According to the spec sheet, your PC doesn't even take DDR2 - it takes DDR. I do see the mention of 1GBx4. I didn't realize it was an old pre-built PC. Best I saw on NewEgg was 2GB for $30 after rebate (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145579).

p.s. Just an FYI ... that PC is well under spec for running Vista and XP won't recognize 4GB of RAM (only 3GB)

when i do the scan from crucial.com i get:
Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-5300 with a maximum of 1GB per slot.

also says it supposrts dual channel. does not support ecc (whatever that means).

i think your motherboard can read this

does this fit the above criteria? if it can do it, i would consider this but it seems that memory is too good for my system.

run a test on memoryx.net and see whether your system can support dual channel kit

since you said your system can support 667 MHz these 800 ones will run at 667

RUsum1,

Since there seems to be conflicting info from HP and Crucial about what RAM your PC takes, I would take a stick out and see if it is DDR or DDR2 just to be sure. There shoudl be a sticker or something on it to tell you. Otherwise, you can count the pins. DDR is 184-pin and DDR2 is 240-pin.

Again, speed doesn't matter. It will just run at the slower speed. However, brand may matter. Some motherboards are picky about what RAM they work with.

this program is doing nothing. i clicked run then clicked continue then nothing shows up anywhere.

also, i ran a program called cpu-id and it says the following for my type of memory (pic below) and i'm showing what crucial's scan showed me.

Get the one that damnyou posted. $4.99 after rebate and it's actually good RAM. You'll have to read the terms and see if you can get 2 rebates (for 4GB).

well that ram is now $20 after rebate (no longer on sale). also, it's better than pc2-5300 so would it work for sure? how can i ask newegg which ram is good for me?

You waited too long. That RAM would just run at lower speed. Next time a deal comes do not wait so long

well it's back down to $5 after rebate so i went ahead and ordered it. hope it works. best case scenario is that it works with my current ram and i'll now have 3 GB. when puttingin ram, do i put the two like ones next to each other for the dual channel capabilities or does it not matter? i have four slots so are 1&2 linked or 1&3 or what?
