Do you have movie screenings outside of Los Angeles?

Yes. FilmMetro currently has movie screenings in San Francisco and Chicago. We are working hard towards providing more events across the country, but have opened up the Screening Locator to help track down screenings in other areas. Its a tricky process to get screening tickets, but the more our members show interest in a movie, the higher the likelihood that we'll get a screening for that area. We love providing free movie screenings tickets and appreciate your patience as we grow.

---Reminder---
This is NOT a forum for you to request if there are any screenings in your city. This forum is provided only to inform you of upcoming screenings.

If you want to check for screenings in your city, please refer to the links in this thread (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showpost.php?p=10828676&postcount=49).

Feel Free to Contact Longhorn10mom for information about Dallas screenings. There is an large yahoo group that compiles all the information about DFW screenings on a calender and there are generally anywhere from 4-12 a week to go to. Dallas is a huge screening market and there is always something going on. The members on the forum are super when it comes to pass exchanges and help.

This is for a free screening of the movie and is limited to selected cities and times.

You'll need to arrive early to hopefully get into the theater to watch the movie as it is overbooked. On the bright side, you'll get to watch it before it is released to the general public!

This is for a 15-minute screening of the movie, not the entire movie.

Read about the movie here:

1159pm on a thursday
wtf i have a job the next morning

What are you 80 years old? Bite the bullet and live a little. I tried for tickets and I would only get 3 hours sleep before work if I went. I might just snooze in the car after the movie and go straight to work after drinking a quart of black coffee. Yeahh!! I can feel my chest hair growing as I type.

Do they send an e-mail confirmation that you won or not?
Yes, followed by a pass in the mail ... Entered 1 time for Doomsday, won passes, then also received this email earlier this week:

Probably due to the screening being at 11:59 PM, we did not have as many entries for this contest as we usually have for your city.

After stuffing all the envelopes, we had a few passes left over. You were randomly selected to receive 2 passes good for 4 people to attend.

If for some reason you cannot attend, you can (and should) give the pass(es) to someone else who can use it. Volition.com will only continue running the advance screenings if enough people go to the shows. Please come or send someone else.

Invite some friends and have a great time. This should be a really interesting movie.

SYNOPSIS:

Columbia Pictures' high stakes action adventure 21 is inspired by the true story of the very brightest young minds in the country - and how they took Vegas for millions.

Ben Campbell (Jim Sturgess) is a shy, brilliant M.I.T. student who - needing to pay school tuition - finds the answers in the cards. He is recruited to join a group of the school's most gifted students that heads to Vegas every weekend armed with fake identities and the know-how to turn the odds at blackjack in their favor. With unorthodox math professor and stats genius Micky Rosa (Kevin Spacey) leading the way, they've cracked the code. By counting cards and employing an intricate system of signals, the team can beat the casinos big time. Seduced by the money, the Vegas lifestyle, and by his smart and sexy teammate, Jill Taylor (Kate Bosworth), Ben begins to push the limits. Though counting cards isn't illegal, the stakes are high, and the challenge becomes not only keeping the numbers straight, but staying one step ahead of the casinos' menacing enforcer: Cole Williams (Laurence Fishburne).

This film is rated PG-13 and has a runtime of 113 minutes.

SYNOPSIS: 21st Century American teenager takes a spellbinding, dangerous journey into martial arts legend in the new action/adventure epic FORBIDDEN KINGDOM.

Shot on location in China, THE FORBIDDEN KINGDOM marks the historic first-ever onscreen pairing of martial arts superstars Jackie Chan (the RUSH HOUR series) and Jet Li (FEARLESS, ONCE UPON A TIME IN CHINA), and features the awe- inspiring action choreography of Woo-Ping Yuen (THE MATRIX, CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON).

While hunting down bootleg kung-fu DVDs in a Chinatown pawnshop, Jason Tripitikas (Michael Angarano - "24", "Will and Grace," LORDS OF DOGTOWN, SEABISCUIT) makes an extraordinary discovery that sends him hurtling back in time to ancient China. There, Jason is charged with a monumental task: he must free the fabled warrior the Monkey King, who has been imprisoned by the powerful Jade War Lord. Jason is joined in his quest by wise kung fu master Lu Yan (Jackie Chan) and a band of misfit warriors including Silent Monk (Jet Li). But only by learning the true precepts of kung fu can Jason hope to succeed - and find a way to get back home.

Directed by Rob Minkoff (STUART LITTLE, THE LION KING), the film stars martial arts superstars Jackie Chan and Jet Li. The original screenplay by John Fusco (YOUNG GUNS, HIDALGO) is based on the traditional Chinese legend of the Monkey King.

SYNOPSIS: Starring Academy Award-nominee UMA THURMAN (Kill Bill) and EVAN RACHEL WOOD (Across the Universe, Thirteen), The Life Before Her Eyes is the new film from Vadim Perelman, the acclaimed director of House of Sand and Fog. The Life Before Her Eyes is an intense and visually evocative drama about the loss of youth, investigating how a single moment in time can define an entire life. Based on Laura Kasischke's visionary novel, the story hinges on a pivotal confrontation: two high school girls held captive by a gunman and forced to make the terrifying choice as to who will live and who will die. The Life Before Her Eyes explores the reverberations stemming from the collision of past and future, reality and dream. Life can end in an instant-yet the echoes of possible futures been remain inescapable. Moving backwards and forwards in time, it combines the dramatic intensity of Sophie's Choice with the eerie mystery of a ghost story like The Others.

This film is rated PG-13 and has a runtime of 96 minutes.

SYNOPSIS: A runaway audience smash at the Sundance Film Festival, SON OF RAMBOW is a hilariously fresh and visually inventive take on friendship, family, film heroes and the death-defying adventures of growing up in the video age.

It all begins in 1980s Britain, when young Will Proudfoot, raised in isolation among The Brethren, a puritanical religious sect in which music and TV are strictly forbidden, encounters something beyond his wildest fantasies: a pirated copy of RAMBO: FIRST BLOOD. His virgin viewing of the iconic thriller blows his mind - and rapidly expanding imagination - wide open.

Now, Will sets out to join forces with the seemingly diabolical school bully, Lee Carter, to make their own action epic, devising wildly creative, on-the-fly stunts, not to mention equally elaborate schemes for creating a movie of total commitment and non-stop thrills while hiding out from The Brethren.

But when school popularity finally descends on Will and Lee in the form of, oui, the super-cool French exchange student, Didier Revol, their remarkable new friendship and precious film are pushed, quite literally, to the breaking point.

I posted this in the Contests forum too but thought that I'd post it here too:

http://www.bejacksfriend.com/index.php?go=win_baby-mama

When Kate couldn’t get pregnant, she hired a Baby Mama and now they’re both in for nine months of hard labor. Universal Pictures presents Tina Fey and Amy Poehler in a hilarious new comedy about the choices we make, the dreams we share, and the people who make them possible. Baby Mama is due in theatres April 25th, and you can win FREE passes to see it from JACK!

are there any in the san francisco bay area?

C'mon, folks!! There were about 6 screenings in San Francisco just this week!!! San Francisco has tons of screenings.

As Nuala's Mom said above: Go to Movie Outsider (http://themovieoutsider.blogspot.com/) and click on [your city name here] on the right.

Before asking if there are any screenings for a city, please, please use the previous helpful resources provided by Nuala's Mom. She provided a long list of sites to check. And by "use" I mean bookmark those sites (or add them to your Favorites) and you check them each and every day (as those of us who love screenings do). Then, on occasion, you can graciously post screenings for others here. But to ask if there are any screenings somewhere when you haven't bothered checking the sites mentioned is rather...well, kinda...frustrating.

I don't know if it's me, but the link you just provided for Movie Outsider has not been updated since December. And when I click on my city it takes me to a just as old page on Advanced Movie Screening's site. As far as Metro goes, I have been checking that site regularly for months and they never have a screening in my area. In fact I can't remember a screening anywhere in the whole state.

I'm looking for screenings in St. Louis and they have been few and far between lately.

I'm looking for screenings in St. Louis and they have been few and far between lately.Perhaps we haven't been clear. Yes, Movie Outsider's lists of screenings have not been updated (we're hoping it might be in the future, therefore the link is handy). However, that is not why you were referred there. If you clicked on your city on the right hand side as instructed, you are taken to the more important page--Advanced Screening Guides General Tips (http://nhmehta.blogspot.com/2007/01/advanced-screenings-guide-generally.html) page. Totally disregard the date at the top of that page!! The information in the Advanced Screening Guide: Generally is still valid!!

You should read thoroughly the section on "Local Media." Neel Mehta provides wonderful tips on how you can find local screenings in any city by following the examples he gives for Las Vegas. He walks you through the sources for screenings he uses and you can too:

Radio
Print
TV
Film Societies
Then under the bottom section entitled "Regional Internet," find your particular city and Neel has taken the time to list links for nearly ALL the sources of screenings he's found in your city!!

Your responsibility then is to bookmark (or add to Favorites) ALL those sites for your city, register for contests on those when applicable, and follow up by checking those sites regularly as those of us who love screenings usually do. I check nearly every day on the sites I consider best for my city.

For you in St. Louis, Neel would have provided the following sources for you to follow (see his site for the actual links):
In addition to Cinema St. Louis, there's the weekly Riverfront Times, which can include a few sneak previews amongst its many concert offers. Every weekend the St. Louis Movie Review Weekly is updated; for each movie, you enter to win by sending an e-mail. Also look at STL Today, and TV stations MyFOX 2, CBS 4 and NBC 5. On the radio, try KMOX, 92.3 WIL, The Bull, Movin' 101.1, KEZK 102.5, and Z107.7.

Were you looking there?

Now, I hope this helps more folks to have their own sources that they can check regularly. Thanks for posting re your confusion, because there probably were many who didn't understand.

The above post is a classic example of:

You can give a hungry screening fan a tub of popcorn & a movie pass and feed them for a day but if you teach them where to look for free packages of popcorn & screening passes, they can eat for a lifetime while watching all the free movies they want!

Screening truths:

1.It is the responsibility of the individual Screening fan to hunt down their own screenings because it is impossible for those of us who post here to list each and every local sponsored screening.

2. What we TRY to do is direct you to the tools you will need to gain easy access to listings in your are.

3 .Time permitting, regular posters to this thread try and list screenings of interest to the largest number of user or screenings that bypass the normal local giveaway methods

4. Most local screening giveaways are contest/sweepstakes oriented but that should NOT stop you from entering - they often have dozens to hundreds of passes to give away, especially the Radio or Free Weekly newspaper sponsored screenings.

5. Register with every outlet in your area that gives away passes and check their websites or read their emails several times a week. If you invest 20 minutes of your time a week and yo live in one of the 20 major film markets, you likely will never have to pay for a ticket again.

Thanks for the reply. I have been doing everything on your list for some time, (until just recently when my browser decided to erase about 3/4 of my bookmarks for some unknown reason). But I had done it, through a long ago posting about Advanced Screening, and when you posted the link for Movie Outsider, it was no longer in my bookmarks and being rather forgetful at times, I had forgotten about it. Then when I clicked on it, I thought maybe my computer was sending me someplace I didn't want to be.

The Chicago Film Archives presents another edition of its Out of the Vault series TONIGHT 05/16/08 with a screening of four short films documenting disturbances surrounding the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago:

The Right to Dissent: A Press Conference examines how city-imposed regulations on political expression backfire, leading to an outbreak of violence between demonstrators and police.

Social Confrontation: The Battle of Michigan Avenue documents violent clashes at Grant Park, as well as disturbances in front of the Conrad Hilton and on the Convention floor.

Law and Order Vs. Dissent exposes city officials' efforts to doctor media coverage of the events.

Last is What Trees Do They Plant?, the city's attempt to salvage Chicago's national reputation by vilifying protesters (they're hell-bent on violence and communist!). The film features news footage of violent demonstrations, interviews with police hurt in the clashes, and secret police surveillance films of demonstration leaders. At 60 minutes, it's by far the longest film of the evening.

The program, at the Chicago Cultural Center's Claudia Cassidy Theater (78 E. Washington), starts at 7 PM and includes a postscreening discussion with Bill Cottle, a principle in the Film Group, which documented social and political upheaval in 60s and 70s Chicago, Ruth Ratney, who wrote What Trees Do They Plant?, and Franklin McMahon, a media artist and writer.

This film is rated PG-13 for thematic material involving drugs, language, some sexual content and violent images and has a runtime of 106 minutes.

SYNOPSIS: In America, we define ourselves in the superlative: we are the biggest, strongest, fastest country in the world. We reward speed, size and above all else: winning at sport, at business and at war. Metaphorically we are a nation on steroids. Is it any wonder that so many of our heroes are on performance enhancing drugs?

From the producers of Bowling For Columbine and Fahrenheit 9/11 comes a new film that unflinchingly explores our win-at-all-cost culture through the lens of a personal journey. Blending comedy and pathos, BIGGER, STRONGER, FASTER* is a collision of pop culture, animated sequences and first-person narrative, with a diverse cast including US Congressmen, professional athletes, medical experts and everyday gym rats.

not the right place for this

This is the perfect place for this. Anytime you can catch a free movie is a slickdeal in my book. Even if it wasn't the right place for this who cares? Read it and move on to the next thing. For you to actually take time and comment "not the right place for this" shows me you have way too much time on your hands. Come to think of it, I may also have a little too much time this morning. Need coffee...

THE STRANGERS (ROGUE)
Week of: May 29, 2008

Lock the doors. Assume you’re safe.

The horrifying events that took place in the Hoyt family’s vacation home at 1801 Clark Road on February 11, 2005, are still not entirely known.

Champagne. Rose petals. Candlelight. It was supposed to be a night of celebration for Kristen McKay (Liv Tyler) and James Hoyt (Scott Speedman). But after leaving a friend’s wedding reception and returning to the house, everything had collapsed for the happy couple.
Then came a 4 a.m. knock on the door and a haunting voice.

Is Tamara here?

Writer/director Bryan Bertino explores our most universal fears in The Strangers, a terrifying suspense thriller about a couple whose remote getaway becomes a place of terror when masked strangers invade. The confrontation forces Kristen and James to go far beyond what they thought themselves capable of if they hope to survive.

There was little else for Wes to do but wile away the days and die a slow, clock-punching death.

All info is there

Also, see my post in the Retired Movie Screening Thread http://forums.slickdeals.net/showpost.php?p=10067450&postcount=1659 which talks about one of the best sources for links to screening opportunities in all the major cities.

to the person who asked "should we arrive early" - The answer is YES!!!

I've been a movie theatre manager for 12 years, and our company hosts these screenings almost weekly at our locations in Phoenix. What I have learned about these audience screenings is that the marketing company hands out wayyy more passes than capacity in the auditorium. Why, you ask? It is because they want to make sure the auditorium is filled to the max. At the screenings I managed (two of them last year) many people were turned away simply because there weren't enough seats. They were offered tickets to another screening a week later, but if you wanted to see that specific movie you were out of luck.

Screening is a lot of fun, good luck to those who get tickets. I recommend a minimum of one hour in advance. Big movies like Batman I would say two hours.

Adam:nod:You're so right, Adam! And for San Franciscans, this place is an entity unto itself! For the 4th or 5th screening of Hancock last week, I arrived 2-1/4 hours early only to find the Metreon line was already about 60-100 people long! People have been lining up here earlier and earlier over the past year. So we regularly go 2 hours early for popular films. (I've seen senior citizens arrive around 11am to "stake their claim" to first slot in the line!)

They definitely are a first come-first served kind of event. Heavily advertised movies will draw unbelievable crowds. And don't even mention IMAX or 3D showings! In general, if you want to be seated together in a group larger than two in relatively good seats, go as early as you can. But for singles without a pass, you can arrive later and cruise the line to see if anyone has a double pass with one space not yet taken.

What my friends and I do (and most folks in line do as well) is bring a picnic supper, cards, games or reading books in our backpacks. The line then becomes one big "tailgate" type of event, with people sitting on the floor (if inside the mall) or on a blanket or newspapers (if outside the mall) eating homemade sandwiches, pizzas, Subway or other take-out foods, playing cards, talking, reading books or with people taking turns waiting in line while others go shopping in the mall or run errands.

While 1-2 hours in line might sound long for just a movie, the time really flies by if you go with a fun attitude and know what you're getting into. My friends and I use it as our "discuss the world issues" time and really love these get-togethers. We've come to know the line regulars and have developed a real camaraderie among us movie lovers.

That said it also can be frustrating when you have waited an hour to find a long stream of people arriving late to meet friends at the front of the line. Line etiquette is questionable at times, and it can be annoying to view what once was a narrow line suddenly bloat into a 5-person wide throng at the front. But.... that's the nature of the screenings.

Your attitude overall will indicate how well you will enjoy the whole experience! It can be great fun, and the community you join is engaging! Make of it what you will!

"The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor"

Starring: Brendan Fraser, Jet Li, Michelle Yeoh, Maria Bello, Luke Ford

Director: Rob Cohen

Rating PG-13

The blockbuster global Mummy franchise takes a spellbinding turn as the action shifts to Asia for the next chapter in the adventure series, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Brendan Fraser returns as explorer Rick O’Connell to combat the resurrected Han Emperor (Jet Li) in an epic that races from the catacombs of ancient China high into the frigid Himalayas. Rick is joined in this all-new adventure by son Alex (newcomer Luke Ford), wife Evelyn (Maria Bello) and her brother, Jonathan (John Hannah). And this time, the O’Connells must stop a mummy awoken from a 2,000-year-old curse who threatens to plunge the world into his merciless, unending service.

Doomed by a double-crossing sorceress (Michelle Yeoh) to spend eternity in suspended animation, China’s ruthless Dragon Emperor and his 10,000 warriors have laid forgotten for eons, entombed in clay as a vast, silent terra cotta army. But when dashing adventurer Alex O’Connell is tricked into awakening the ruler from eternal slumber, the reckless young archaeologist must seek the help of the only people who know more than he does about taking down the undead: his parents.

As the monarch roars back to life, our heroes find his quest for world domination has only intensified over the millennia. Striding the Far East with unimaginable supernatural powers, the Emperor Mummy will rouse his legion as an unstoppable, otherworldly force...unless the O’Connells can stop him first. Now, in The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, the trademark thrills and visually spectacular action of the Mummy series will be redefined for a new generation.

Not necessarily true Stevie. I'm also live in Michigan (Metro Detroit area) and have been to lots of screenings (esp. @ the Birmingham Palladium) over the years, and it depends on the movie. Quite a few times my friend and I were close to the last people to get in and we were there an hour before. Once we were the last 2 people to get in. Ah, the sweet sounds of moaning from behind us. Oh sorry, that was mean...heheh ;) But that time we had arrived 30 mins beforehand...and of course you know where we sat--in the front row.

Now, some movies you're right about. I could have arrived close to screening time and gotten right in, plus a primo seat. You never know. If it's something I'd really love to see, then waiting an hour or more for a FREE movie is nothing, IMO. Plus arriving early let's you pick the best seat and even meet new people/network (if you're so inclined).

Anyway, have fun and enjoy the show! heheh that was so corny.

Although I know what your saying about people not taking the time to read stuff (I see questions asked that answered just 1 post above there question) The links you provided do not work they show post that no longer exist?
Some people really don't have the time or the know how, to sit and read long posts or dig up old information so sometimes I don't think there simply being lazy they are lost and really need help, I have been there myself and been accused of not reading etc... When I had read and just couldn't get my question answered, just a thought ;)

Hey everyone. I just got passes to see The Rocker in Michigan on Tuesday. It says that there will be a special guest appearance by Rainn Wilson. Does anyone know if this is legit, will he actually be there?

Sometimes they do have guests at the screenings. In 2004, I saw a screening of "Millions" and Danny Boyle (director of "28 Days Later" and "Trainspotting") was there to answer questions.

This is a good opportunity to ask questions and share your feelings about the movie. When movies are low budget and not Hollywood produced, having guests answer questions is a good way to get people to come out and then spread the word about the movie. Helps them also on advertising costs. As you know, good word-of-mouth is better than Hollywood spending tons of money on a flop...you're still not going to tell others it was good.

It is frustrating that I can never get in on any screenings. Most of the sceenings in the Detroit area are gone within two hours. I'm sorry I can't stay up till 1 in the morning when filmmetro will post the new movies. I don't go to bed till 11 anyways because of homework and school so waking up at 1259 to log in and print tickets is out of the question. I actually have a job, a kid and school. Which also means I can't get out to local events the radio stations are doing in my area because of work. I would have loved to drive to Novi to pick up Dark Knight passes- yet my job is a little more important I think. Especially in these trying times in Michigan.
So I try to log in when I get up between 530 and 7 am and almost always the screenings are gone. The only screenings that are left are for those far away like Grand Rapids. Hmm I don't think I'm going to drive 3 hours for a free movie. I register at all the sites to win tickets. But guess what I have no luck.
I just ask that everyone be respectful of those around you. If you can't make a movie then don't select the tickets. If you then find out you can't go to the movie go log back into filmmetro and give up your tickets so someone else can have them.

I don't think I"m asking to much

It is frustrating...

I know what you mean by frustrating. Here is a list of the local Detroit Web sites I go to an a daily basis...not just for movie screening tickets, but contests too. You just have to be persistent. More and more people have found out about free screenings, so that means more people are now signing up for the same tickets you are. A few years ago I used to go about once or twice a month to a free screening. Now it's like 1 or 2 every 6 months. But being persistent pays off...I've been to other events and won items for free (concerts, DVDs, CDs). Good Luck.

im pretty new to this thread here. how do i go about getting started? i live in the NYC area. any advice/help would be much appreciated. thanks!

Welcome ummjay! Nuala's Mom has posted some very good helpful tips on page 4 #49, and page 6 #78. I stopped on page 6, but others have posted helpful tips too. There are only 15 pages in this thread, just go back and read some to get an idea of places to try for free screenings. If someone knows of a free screening they will usually post them here, and asking for screenings in a particular city is not necessary. Have fun and good luck!

Saw American Teen last night in NYC.
I came at 7:27 for a 7:30 showtime.
Got in no problem with NO line and plenty of seats available in a "reserved" section (best seats in the house).
Maybe it was just this movie but I hope future screenings will be the same.

THANKS! If anyone has any good tips for NYC please let me know!

There are usually passes given out by New York audiences outside the Union Square theatre weeknights or sometimes on the weekends for future screenings.
I probably go to about 10 of them a year with New York audiences.

So I have a question. I got a pass to a free screening of Tropic Thunder. I know they usually give out more passes than there are seats. For those that have attended screenings, how early should I get there to guarantee a seat?

depends what city and how big the promotion is. Usually screenings are at 7:30. For big promotions, get there before 5:00, and u will be fine.. Otherwise, 6:00 is ample time for most movies.

Actually it depends on a lot of things: your city and the different theaters that handle the screenings as well as the popularity of the movie. Bigger theaters can hold more people and accept more potential screeners. So even if you get there at 5pm there is a chance (slim but still a chance you can get in). However I would NEVER recommend to anyone interested in a screening to get there around 5 or 6pm. That's cutting it way too close.

If it's a little known Indie movie then you're all but guaranteed a seat regardless of the time you get there.

If the theater is organized and has good security keeping a tight line, there's relatively no problem. However, here in NY, if a screening is at 6 or 7pm and you actually need/want to get in, then you HAVE to get there about 2 or 3pm the latest. No joke or exaggeration and keep the fluid intake to little or none as many theaters don't let you use their bathrooms unless you've paid for a ticket.

Unless you have someone waiting there for you....and even then it gets really chaotic. Notice I said some ONE. As in one person. That rarely happens anymore as people "reserve" spots for friends/family....who unfortunately get there whenever they want, though the trend now is for them to get there about 30min to 1hr before the screening starts and jumble up the line, standing next to or BEHIND the person that originally stood in line....so they're now in front of you, not the person that invited them! WTF?!

Multiply that by 20 or 30 different people each "holding" spots and you get the idea. A jumbled mess that some people (who like to skip lines) take advantage of. Pisses me off to no end.

So for instance, you're one of the first 20 or so people in line...Which is generally a good thing, but not here in NY...don't know how other cities have it. Those 19 people standing in front of you over the next 3 hrs, will morph into about 60-80+ people (including their invited family/friends) and soon you'll be number 150 or 200 down the line. Sad but true. No one has any respect for others or the decency NOT to abuse a situation. I don't mind people sharing passes but it's not right to invite 25 or more people and have them stand behind you.

Tropic Thunder is going to be huge...at least to me. lol Really looking forward to it. So get there EARLY, not at 5pm...4pm the latest if you're really pressed for time. If there's a screening I want to go to, I try to leave earlier than usual from work, or arrive earlier in the morning at work and leave early for the day.

I have always wondered what are screenings like in different cities. NY is getting cutthroat...not literally of course but damn near. We sometimes even have fights now. On the screening lines. Sad.

I know how you feels.

Here in DFW, people put clothes, bags to form and line in the mid morning and you wouldn't see them until afternoon. Therefore, if I arrive at 4:30pm, I will line up behind these bags. One guy who used to see lots of prescreening movie complained to me about how hard to get the tickets and a good seats nowadays. It was much better years ago when there was an organization who handled the prescreening movies and gave out tickets to its member of about 200 people. It is a much bigger crowd of movie goers trying to get tickets nowadays.

In fact, I might give up going because it is too much frustration.

A person who I met at another free movie comes up to me. She asked me for ticket and "line up" in front of me. What do you suggest I should do next time?

Personally, if my friend did not line up with me, unless there is a very good reason, I will not invite he/she to see the movie again. I believe no one want to line up and so do I.

Wait, they put clothes in bags?? As placeholders? Oh my...that's kind of sick. They could NOT do that here in NY. Someone would take the bags, go sell the clothes in the Village and come back on the line eating food bought with the lo-jacked clothes.

Ah you got a moocher "psuedo-friend." It depends on the person. When you go to screenings a lot, you tend to see the same people. If they ask you once to stand in front of you or for an extra pass, etc., you should agree ONLY on two conditions 1. That you can actually stand the person 2. That they agree to save you a spot for any screenings etc., in the future. Mention that...."Okay but only if you help me out if I arrive late etc and see you at the front of the line." Simple and painless and the key to networking as the moocher pseudo friend could possibly know of screenings that you might not have access to.

However, exchanging words and small talk with someone doesn't mean I'm your best bud for life. If you don't feel like having them mooch their way in front or next to you, then just make up some bull about waiting for someone else. "Sorry, I only have one pass and I'm expecting someone else, wish I could but I can't help you."
That's often the case but sometimes it isn't or the person doesn't show up. Not your problem. Cause when it's all said and done, that pseudo moocher friend person could be taking YOUR seat. It's them or you...and quite sorry if I want to see that movie badly enough, someone else I'm not friends with will always lose.

tonight I have a screening pass to see the movie American Teen. My question is I have a child who is almost 12, very mature and responsible for the age. I'm curious if anyone has seen this movie yet and whether or not they would take their preteen to see it. I have asked the advice of people who are just recently adults, but they have not seen the movie. Its rated for PG 13. I do not want my child to grow up to quick. Yet I want the movie to be a learning experience. Any advice?

Honestly, if ur child is 12, I think it is fine. He or she has only a year or less till 13 anyway. And if you are there, I doubt there would be problem. I think PG-13 movies are not too bad. I think when I was 13 that is when I started watching R-rated movies :lmao: .

Btw, for Philly, there is not a huge line before 5...you get around 10-20 people in line before 5. 5:30 is the time everyone shows up usually because most people come after work. I know for Love Guru, I was there at 5:45 and was like 5th in line but for Dark Knight, I went at 5:00 and was 20th in line. Different movies have difference experinces.
