I know, I know, why?

I have a desktop I built about a year ago that was pretty hot at the time (and still ain't too shabby). Got a new HP laptop with Vista and I have to say, I love it. It's been working very well for me and I think it's great.

Now I want Vista on my custom comp but would like to not pay (much) for it. I know awhile back MS did one of those things where they would give you Vista if you went to a seminar. No deal in Las Vegas.

Anybody know where/how I can get free (or near free) Windows Vista??? Thanks any help will be greatly appreciated! Happy New Year All!

p.s.: not a student.

If you're not a student, and you don't work for a company that has a Home User Program, then no, there are no current deals to get it for anything close to free. Sorry.

Edit: For some reason, you can send PM's but not accept them. No, I've never heard of the thing that you mentioned in PM. Please tell me more about it.

Not a scam? Well post it up here or PM. If it's a torrent I'm not overly interested tho.

I like vista on my laptop... but i like having XP on my desktop even more... Vista is just a little to bloated for me, again works great on my laptop.

If i were you i'd keep XP on desktop

If i were you i'd keep XP on desktopThat makes no sense at all. Laptops are generally less powerful than desktop PC's. If you felt it was bloated, it would make more sense to run it on the desktop than the laptop.

And the person is looking for a deal, and not start another XP vs. Vista battle. There are plenty of those threads in the Tech Support forum.
