So, In my room I have my TV and desk rather close to each other. I'm looking to upgrade the audio for both my laptop when I'm at my desk and for my TV when i want to watch a Blu-ray or whatever. I'm looking for a possible solution in only getting one new set of speakers whether it's a 5.1 system or a high quality 2.1 set that could somehow work for both of my needs. I've been looking at something like the Logitech G51's or the Z5500's provided they come down in price.
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
I have these (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/speakers_audio/home_pc_speakers/devices/234&cl=us,en) and I'm very happy with them. I use them for my PC and TV just as you want to do.
If the reviews are good on the ones you're looking at and you can find a good price, go for it. Logitech makes good speakers for the price.

I was looking at those as well as the 530's but I'm just worried about getting true 5.1 since I only have a Macbook and don't know much about the soundcard (assuming it isn't much) Also, do you have any game systems hooked up to those? Or a DVD player?

I've got a SB Audigy 2 ZS connected to them. I have an optical audio cable out from my TV to the Audigy to cover the rest. The speakers also allow for connecting a game console directly in which case it uses 'Matrix' surround. Essentially they try to emulate the surround sound. Matrix sounds alright but obviously nothing like true surround.
I picked mine up for ~$40 at Staples on Black Friday '07 or '06 btw (can't recall which)
