View Full Version : Who did the redesign for the slickdeals.net site?

I was wondering who did the redesign for the main site? I was looking into web developers for my site and really liked how this site was redone (ajax, checkboxes that remove messages, expanding and collapsing things, etc).
Does anyone know who did it or what development team was responsible? Or can anyone point me in the right direction?

We did it ourselves and it was all custom.

is there any constructive comments that might be able to point me in the right direction for getting this type of web development done?

Mr. SD, the owner of the site, already answered above (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showpost.php?p=15858672&postcount=3) that he and his team did it themselves. So no outside company did the site design or redesign here. But *maybe* Mr. SD or his developers/admins would be willing to give you a tip or two if you ask them nicely :).

I attempted to do that a couple hours ago and still no response. I hope I asked nicely enough.:worship: :worship: :worship: please!!!
I am just very naive to the acronyms and things being discussing in this thread:
"souped up nicely" (does this mean he answered the question correctly?)
"gladly take credit" (what would you earn credit for? answering my question before Mr. SD? rep points?)
"MA'd for self promo!" (this would translate to "mod alerted for self promo" which I really dont understand)
Is there a place I could go to understand this stuff?

This is the post that answers your question:
We did it ourselves and it was all custom.
You sound like you either want some web dev pointers, or you want to hire someone to do some dev work for you. Ad postings aren't allowed here, but you might get some suggestions on websites you could go to that DO allow those sorts of postings, or that have some of the web dev stuff you need. I'd suggest posting some specific questions over in the Tech Support forum.

Give them some time. They may or may not answer you further, but even if they're going to, they may be too busy to answer right now. Be patient. If they haven't answered you in a few days or a week, then you could bump the thread and try again. (by 'bump' I mean reply/post again to the thread with another polite 'please' as above, or something again. :))
BackAgain gave a very good suggestion about posting a thread over in the Tech Support forum. Someone there may be able to steer you to a site or company that can do the type of web design/developement you're wanting.

"Souped up nicely" and "gladly take credit" are used above just like they would be anywhere. They're not terms specific to this site. 'Souped up' meant as in the site was tweaked nicely to perform/look well or better, and 'gladly take credit' meant as in they'd be more than happy to claim that they did the redesign even though they didn't (they were joking though.)
'Mod Alerted for self promo' means that burninator was saying that he mod alerted Mr. SD's post as self promtion. Self promotion (i.e, promoting/spamming your own site on SD or using referral links to your own or other sites for money or whatever) is a no-no on SD and is a ban-able offense. (And no, just asking for tips on coding or design for your site is not self promo, unless you link to or otherwise name your site :)). But burninator was saying it as a joke, because Mr SD owns this site anyway, so mod alerting him for self promotion would be pointless ;).
As for where to learn some of the acronyms that are used here, look through The SD FAQ megathread (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=81227&t=511057) that't stickied at the top of this forum and also at the main site's FAQ (http://forums.slickdeals.net/faq.php). Lots of info in both that'll help you learn not only about the acronyms or abbreviations used here, but also about many of the site's features and such. :) (though the 'MA' abbreviation does seem to be missing from them )

Thats an excellent explanation. Thanks for the details.
I will post a thread over in the Tech Support Forum to hopefully get me moving in the right direction:look: .
