Our 2nd car just died and we need a new vehicle. DH would love a truck, especially a Suburban, but I would just like to purchase something with the best deal. Dh does need a truck for work (he owns a contracting co) but we do have an Epediation that he could take. I have a 4 year old and a newborn so I would want something safe and on the bigger side. We are open to either a new vehicle or a gently used one. That is our situation and since our lives are crazy, I would appreciate it if anyone has any suggestions!

I would like to stay in the $20k range but not sure if that is realistic.
I will check out toyota.
I never thought about Craigslist. I will investigate.
Thanks!

You most definitely WILL get a better deal on Craigslist, but here's the big issue. Even if you have your own personal mechanic check it out, you most likely will not get a warranty from the seller. When you are spending in the neighborhood of 20k... I wouldn't even think about buying without a warranty.
Autotrader.com and cars.com have a pretty good search engine and a big number of listings. They are very easy to use and left you specify vehicle type/class/manufacturer/age and your price range, plus your area code. I have found some really nice vehicles on there for cheap, a lot of dealers use sites like that. It has new and used stuff on it.
Best of luck!

Unless you live in a real rural area, there are going to be tons of vehicles that you could purchase. The first thing you need to do is focus in on what you want. Once you have identified one or two (maybe three) car models you would like then you can focus your search and get a better understanding of what they will cost.
First things first... you and your husband need to decide what kind of car you want to buy. Do you want a Suburban? Their are plenty at a great deal. You need to figure out what you want before we can help you get it :)
