Wondering if I could get some help. I'm looking for an LCD tv for my aunt. I'm the lucky one to do the research. This week I have found a 40" Sony V series at Circuit City for 1099 also a 5 series Samsung 40" for the same. I need 1080p. I don't think she would notice 120 hz so that doesn't really factor in. SHE wants a Sony, I'm pushing for a Samsung. Trying to find the best deal. Does anyone else think prices will drop more the closer the super bowl gets? I know that Best Buy will refund a price difference if the price does drop.....Her budget is under $1300. She could go bigger if I found a good deal! Thanks SDers!!!

if you can buy it on line, check price grabber or amazon

price grabber shows the sammy 550 for $950, 650 for $1250. the sony Vis about $1000. they may also have this at walmart. some of these reflect free shipping and maybe no taxes. and if you have to buy local, want the biggest for the cheapest, i posted this earlier in the weekabout the 46" 500, but i think i'd opt for the 550.

Don't think they will go much lower now. I'm a sony guy and if you want to save some money i would suggest looking for a sony S series model instead of the V. S series models have less bells and whistles.

Thanks so much. I just read the Best Buy scan for next week and there is a Samsung in there that I'm pushing for her to buy. I am a Samsung person but she loves her Sony. I kind of want her to have 120 hz, even tho she probably won't notice much. It'll be a while before she upgrades again so I want to make sure she has the latest technology. Dell is having its 10 Days of HDTV Deals and tommorrow its featuring a Sony 40". So I'll have to check that out too. Man this is a lot of work!

Spending on 120Hz would be waste of money I guess
With Amazon's white glove delivery and no tax (most states) you will not get a better price
