Hi all,
My old Brother all-in-one died on me and I need to get a cheap (under $100 would be great though I would be willing to go as high as $200) replacement capable of easily using generic ink. I've read that Canon and HP now only make printers/all-in-ones that work with only genuine Canon/HP ink catridges and I print enough documents (only need to keep each document around for about a month however so I don't need long-lasting top of the line ink durability) such that buying genuine ink cartridges would cost me several hundreds more during the course of the printer's life. I still fondly remember my Canon i550 during college that worked like a champ for years and years on generic $2 catridges, but alas, those days are long gone (in more ways than one).
Are there any particular brands or models that still allow for easy use of generic ink cartridges? I think Brother still does, but my last machine had quite a few issues with generic ink such as claiming that the ink was empty when it was 3/4 full (maybe it was where I was buying the ink - inkforart.com?) so I'm definitely open to new brands. Also, I'd be very interested to know if there are any highly recommended websites for buying generic ink.
Thanks for the help!
