In the User CP, where we put in Location and Job Title, etc., could there be a place for us to put in our real names so it appears under our avatars?

How about using the title field?

IMHO, not many people will want their real names visible, so what they'd do would be to use that field to expound on their "title."

Someone who wants to provide additional personal info can do so on their linked Home Page URL.

Well I was really only talking about first name...I mean if people are paranoid, then they just don't have to put it. Putting the info in another section is stupid, that's why I wanted to see if there could be another field added. But yes, we could do it the way you suggested.

Or in the signature...

Yeah I guess...but I still don't see what would be the big deal with adding it? The code to do it is trivial and the bandwidth it would take up wouldn't be noticable.

Yeah I guess...but I still don't see what would be the big deal with adding it?IMHO, the "avatar area" would get too busy. Forums with a lot of fields in that area are just plain cluttered looking.

Most (i.e., >95%) of the members would just use that field for more fun stuff rather than their name. The size of the title is already limited to 25 characters, which helps keep the forum uncluttered.

I doubt it's a code or bandwidth issue.

Actually, what would be better would be if we could put people's actual location in the location line.

"WHY?" you might ask? Because for many deals, it's YMMV and B&M.

It's a lot easier to know if you have a chance based on where others are located or if someone posts what they scored, you can see where they got it right there on the screen. I would imagine a IP verification of somesort would be needed. But couldn't be that hard...

Actually, what would be better would be if we could put people's actual location in the location line...I doubt that will EVER happen.

People seem to enjoy anonymity. Those who want to share their location already do so in their profile or signature - how many people do that? Few.

IP addresses do not necessarily reveal the geographic origin of the visitor.

For example, if you're surfing via AOL, or a major dialup ISP, or through a corporate network and gateway the IP address tells you virtually nothing about where the user is.

I know right, it's so annoying. This one guy has "the fastest browser on earth." I mean come on, what is that???........ :lmao:

But seriously, lets have the "Real Name:" added to the profile, thanks.

lets hear a convincing argument of why we should have it first, thanks.
