Starbucks: “Are You In” Obama’s Civilian National Security Force?
Starbucks wants to make it easy to join Obama’s proposed paramilitary brown shirt volunteers. “Starbucks will honor each person who pledges with a free tall brewed coffee beginning Wednesday, Jan. 21 through Sunday, Jan. 25. The goal of the effort is to raise pledges in excess of one million hours of service from all over the country,” a Starbucks press releases states.
Starbucks wants to “make it easy to participate in the President-elect’s call for national service.” Back in September, the Christian Science Monitor reported that Obama plans to “leverage volunteerism in communities across the country” and make government “cool again.”
Fortunately, a lot of people are beginning to realize government is never cool, as the founders warned a couple hundred years ago.

For those who cant take the elderly or kids, try volunteering at an animal shelter :)
They always need help cleaning or playing with the dogs
I recently attended the Hotel For Dogs event and it was rather fun

This posting encouraged me to sign up to SD. Another volunteer activity - participate in a beach or highway cleanup. Just go for a walk, with trash bag in hand. If you're walking along a street, be sure to wear bright orange or neon green, so that motorists can see you. Or organize a group outing, and then go out for some Starbucks!

I've got two rescue dogs, so that's a good idea to volunteer at a shelter. I love Starbucks coffee, too. I'm just not doing it in the name of Obama...

Honestly? The cup of coffee isn't the end goal-it's helping people who really need and appreciate your help. Like the good Samaritan...

I volunteered hundreds of hours in 2008 to our church, my daughter's school, my son's school, our YMCA, girl scout troop, and at a retirement home...give til it hurts! A free coffee is just a nice thank you perk acknowledgement, the helping, sharing and caring is what it's all about!

I think they're going by the honor system...they really can't make sure you do the 5 hours. As long as you promise that you'd do it, it's good enough.

Alright so I used their zip code locator and found nothing near me...and I volunteer three days a week to do taxes for free, called VITA. Which btw if you make under 40,000 you will probably qualify, will do your state and federal taxes for free, file it and all. Just got to the IRS website

That is (Math):
$15/hour => $600/(40 hours) week => $31,200/year before taxes :omg:
Anyway, everyone should do voluntee work at least once in his / her life time. The rewards and memory you get is priceless.

Great idea to encourage volunteerism. I get very irritated when I see people acting as if asking people to give up time to help others is a slight to capitalism and the alimighty dollar.
Thank you President Obama and Starbucks for recognizing that helping others is one of the best ways to help our country.

Yeah, as simple as that.
For me, I walked in and said "Are you guys really giving free coffee to people who volunteer?" Then they usually would just hand it to you and sometimes the baristas would strike up a conversation maybe asking what you do, etc.
