any budjet hotel will be far from all the action. unless you want to stay miles from all the action, then that is the price you will have to pay.

there is ONE hotel that is in that price range there- I forget the name of it though :(
They have a visitors center- call them!
The hotel is on the right hand side just before the visitors center & I wanna say it's across from hojo or some chain place??? I can't remember- we're headed there this summer, not that it will help you much NOW!
Grab one of those kitschy hotel guides at the nearest rest stop or food bar- they usually list them by price & area, they abound here plus include some discounts & amenity listings as well.
I remember the hotel wasn't BAD, like some we've stayed in by budget- it was being remodeled & wasn't directly on the beach, but- was darned close to the action.

The Best Key West Vacation deals are found on EBay. If you find a Hyatt timeshare for rent I can't imagine anyone being disappointed. Hyatt Sunset Harbor is the Best downtown location. Windward Point and Beach Place are great 2 bedroom units and are a 15-20 minute bicycle ride to downtown or about 3 miles.
Good luck

Hope you are still following this...
I was almost booked in stone- then I caught the thread here on the Holiday inn with a linky (search feature!)
I managed to finagle a f&f room for $82 per nite!!! I'm no longer pool side & no longer get my king suite- but, I'm also saving $30 per nite, so- since I'll be out all day at the water, I'm thinking... If I REALLY wanna see the hotel pool, I can hoof it from wherever they stick me! lol.
Definitely check out that thread! Dh is keeping me now- not only did I save that money- but, booked the other parts of the vacation we planned on being pricier at drastically reduced prices as well!
Haven't done the deal yet- in reading, I expect a little ho-humming. Nothing I can't handle though... Good luck!
