Godaddy is a good site to register domains.
You get free hosting in many sites. Even microsoft (http://www.officelive.com/free-website) provides free hosting.

I lately use freehostia for hosting. Their service is excellent. You can register domain with them too for $10/year.

I usually use 1&1 because they have really low prices and usually include the private domain feature for free. Go Daddy usually is high priced , not ridiculously high priced like a few places but they usually charge 10 + 10 for the private domain feature.

After constantly reading a smattering of comments about 1&1 and other places about how hard it is to transfer your domain name etc I decide to go with GOdaddy this week for another domain because they are having a sale and they are always mentioned. Its 6.99 instead of the usual 10 right now but they still dont include the private feature, its extra. They also have some deals if you get 5 names etc.

Also they try to sell you extra features so hard at their site its a bit annoying. When I checked out they also have a thing about how they will call you to help you with any questions you might have --- I assume this is another opp to upsell you on features. I find that a bit annoying too. They should have an option to not take a call. I wrote in the comment box I dont want a call.

I also saw a thing that Google is registering domain names too for 10 bucks which I think includes the private feature but they are using Godaddy and some other firm to actually register the names.

Google Apps has your choice of two registrars (click 'Learn More' by 'registration services by eNom'. You're presented with a choice of eNom or GoDaddy) as your 'Google' domain name (http://www.google.com/apps/intl/en/business/domain.html) registrar, privacy included! I like GoDaddy for their flexibile DNS management features, but their privacy per domain is too pricey. This is a great way around that. Very nice find, radford!

Back to finish this after signing up for Google registration...

I chose GoDaddy as registrar and was assigned a username and password to a special version of the GoDaddy DNS administration interface. Not quite as refined as the regular one, but it still gets the job done, ESPECIALLY when you consider that one of the first things I like to do is setup a Google Apps account for my new domains with email and shared documents. This way, that's all done for me, up front.

Repped for the info, thanks!

Not for nothing: NetFirms has reasonable registration costs with free privacy ($7 first year with $10 renewal), but the DNS tools take some getting used to, I thought.

GoDaddy is good. You can get a free domain name when you buy something on Buy.com.

Check out nodaddy.com (http://nodaddy.com). Lots of horror stories from customers and insiders. It made me decide to avoid them.
