I have a 50" Panasonic Plasma (720p) screen (connected to an antenna, no cable no dish); a new 80 GB PS3 to play games, Blue Ray Disks and DVDs; an Apple TV; and an HD Tivo (all of which have HDMI connections). I also have an AR turntable and a JVC VCR which are, of course, analog. I have two DCM-8 front speakers, an Optimus center channel speaker, and two Klipsch B2 surround speakers.

I have an ancient (7+ years old) Kenwood receiver with no HDMI which is begining to fail. I want to replace it with a receiver that has minimum of 3 HDMI inputs, two component and a phono input. My living room is 12' X 16', so I think I need at least 75 watts RMS per channel into 8 ohm speakers. I think that considering the capabilities of the PS3 and the Panasonic TV, video conversion capabilities of the receiver is not of primary importance. Is that correct?

I want to spend around $550 and get an unusually good bargain (as I have done for the other components of my system). I like the Onkyo 706 and 806 receivers which I have seen (factory refurbished) for $450 to $550 in the past. I want to find those or something comparable to those units at my price range.

What do you suggest?

Go with one of the Onkyos. The 806 is $634 at Amazon for a new one. The 706 is $550 - 10% and whatever points you might have at shoponkyo.com

Marantz SR5003 $550 (http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/MARSR5003/Marantz/SR5003-Dolby-TrueHD-/-dts-HD-Master-Audio-AV-Receiver/1.html)

Although the Marantz SR5003 receiver DieselJunkie recommended is a very nice unit, I chose the Onkyo TX-SR706. It was offered at $549 at Onkyo.com, minus a 10% discount minus an additional $10 for Onkyo points (granted for simply registering), free shipping and no sales tax! This means I paid $484.10 total for this unit. The Marantz would have been $576 (including $26 shipping), and it did not list a phono input for my turntable.

I expect delivery on Jan 27 and I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks for the input.
