I am looking to buy a Canon ultra-compact digital camera, and have narrowed down to Canon SD790 or SD880. Reading from the other forums, I can't tell which one I want to buy. The SD790 sounds like it has great image quality, but it is slow, (as in the time it takes to focus and take the photo.) The SD880 is supposedly the fastest of the SD series, but image quality is not so good. Anyone have experience with these cameras? Also any good deals?
TIA!

Get a SD880. Hands down a better camera.

I concur. Better button layout (raised on 880 vs flush on 790), better thumb wheel (outer ring only on 880 vs entire wheel on 790), better optical zoom (4x on 880 vs 3x on 790), plus the wide angle lens and it just looks nice with smoothed edges as opposed to the boxy 790. Screen size, pixels, and weight are the same. Best price I see is at J&R via Live cashback.

SD890 doesn't have widescreen. It has a smaller LCD screen (2.5 vs 3 in), but that allows it a viewfinder, which the SD880 does not have. SD890 also has a 5X optical zoom, which is about the highest you'll get with the ultraslim compact cameras (SD890 has 4X). Because of the zoom, I think it is slightly larger (deeper) than the other Powershot Elphs. I personally find the button layout less intuitive than that on the SD880..
