Could someone tell me which of these is a better deal? This would be my first laptop purchase.
Thanks!

The first one has a Core 2 Duo processor, which is much more updated than the Pentium.
I would go with that one.

I'd agree with the vote on the first one. The only thing the second one seems to have going for it is the extra storage space and the Vista Premium upgrade, and if you're desperately in need of storage, you can buy HUGE external drives for cheap, or just upgrade your internal drive (and stick the old drive into an external enclosure and have a 160GB travel drive).

The Vista Premium over Basic isn't such a huge deal either; with the Intel X3100 you'd be hurting with Aero enabled. If you really need a fancier version of Windows you can just buy a Windows 7 upgrade later this year - if the Vista launch is any indication, there will be a bunch of excellent launch specials surrounding the OS; I picked up a free CD, a slick pair of Logitech speakers for free, and a 320GB external drive (big at the time) for about $40 with my copy of Vista.

yup, first one... better processor, more ram vs. a bigger HD.
